1Th 4:9 (TEV) - There is no need to write to you about love for your fellow-believers. You yourselves have been taught by God how you should love one another.
Note: Paul here does not directly attribute to Jesus the words, "Love one another." Paul may or may not be consciously quoting Jesus' teachings.
1Th 4:15-17 (TEV) - What we are teaching you now is the Lord’s teaching: we who are alive on the day the Lord comes will not go ahead of those who have died. There will be the shout of command, the archangel’s voice, the sound of God’s trumpet, and the Lord himself will come down from heaven. Those who have died believing in Christ will rise to life first; then we who are living at that time will be gathered up along with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
Note: John Bailey in The Interpreters Bible, Volume 11 (Nashville, TN: Abingdon, 1955, page 303) states:
...word of the Lord. Some have thought this means a word found in the Gospels; others, that it refers to a special revelation from the Lord to Paul (e.g., Chrysostom, Ellicott, Lightfoot, Findlay, Milligan, Moffatt); and still others, that it refers to a word which has been transmitted to Paul as a part of the Christian tradition which had its basis in the teaching of the Lord Jesus (e.g., Calvin, Frame). This last view seems to be supported by the general character of the discussion of that Christian tradition in these two letters (see 2 Thess. 2:15; 3:6).
1Co 7:10,11 (TEV) - For married people I have a command which is not my own but the Lord’s: a wife must not leave her husband; but if she does, she must remain single or else be reconciled to her husband; and a husband must not divorce his wife.
Note: Hanz Conzelmann (Hermeneia: 1 Corinthians, Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1975, page 120) comments:
...The regulation is absolute; for it comes from the Lord himself -- one of the words of Jesus so very rarely found in Paul... The regulation given by the historical Jesus is also that of the exalted Lord;...
1Co 9:14 (TEV) - In the same way, the Lord has ordered that those who preach the gospel should get their living from it.
1Co 11:23-25 (TEV) - For I received from the Lord the teaching that I passed on to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took a piece of bread, gave thanks to God, broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in memory of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup and said, “This cup is God’s new covenant, sealed with my blood. Whenever you drink it, do so in memory of me.”
[1Co 14:37-38 (TEV) - If anyone supposes he is God’s messenger or has a spiritual gift, he must realize that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command. But if he does not pay attention to this, pay no attention to him.
Note: A few commentators believe that Paul here may be directly quoting Jesus. Many others discount that notion. As C.K. Barrett (Harper's New Testament Commentaries: The First Epistle to the Corinthians, New York: Harper & Row, 1968, pages 333-334) comments:
Paul does not mean he is quoting the teaching of Jesus, but that 'he too has the mind of Christ', and has 'authority for building you up.'
