Greek - petros
Strong's - Greek 4074 (see also Greek 4073)
KJV - Peter; stone (In Joh 1:42 the KJV interprets petros as "stone." The only correct literal translation of Petros is "Peter," which is how most modern translations render Joh 1:42. An interpretative translation of Petros as "stone" is given some support in the commentary on Joh 1:42 that is found at http://www.bibletexts.com/verses/v-joh.htm#1v42.)
NRSV - Peter

S&H 137:26-1 Before this the impetuous disciple had been called only by his common names, Simon Bar-jona, or son of Jona; but now the Master gave him a spiritual name in these words: "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter; and upon this rock [the meaning of the Greek word petros, or stone] I will build my church; and the gates of hell [hades, the under-world, or the grave] shall not prevail against it." <Mat 16:18>
