KJV w/Strong# - {5} And the glory <03519> of the LORD <03068> shall be revealed <01540>, and all <03605> flesh <01320> shall see <07200> [it] together <03162>: for the mouth <06310> of the LORD <03068> hath spoken <01696> [it].
NRSV - 5 Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
TEV - "Words of Hope" - 3 A voice cries out, "Prepare in the wilderness a road for the LORD! Clear the way in the desert for our God! 4 Fill every valley; level every mountain. The hills will become a plain, and the rough country will be made smooth. 5 Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind will see it. The LORD himself has promised this."
KJV w/Strong# - {39} Know <03045> therefore <03767> this day <03117>, and consider <07725> [it] in thine heart <03824>, that the LORD <03068> he [is] God <0430> in heaven <08064> above <04605>, and upon the earth <0776> beneath <08478>: [there is] none <0369> else <05750>. {40} Thou shalt keep <08104> therefore his statutes <02706>, and his commandments <04687>, which <0834> I command <06680> thee this day <03117>, that it may go well <03190> with thee, and with thy children <01121> after <0310> thee, and that thou mayest prolong <0748> [thy] days <03117> upon the earth <0127>, which <0834> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> giveth <05414> thee, for ever.
NRSV - 39 So acknowledge today and take to heart that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. 40 Keep his statutes and his commandments, which I am commanding you today for your own well-being and that of your descendants after you, so that you may long remain in the land that the LORD your God is giving you for all time.
TEV - "Warning against Idolatry" - 36 He let you hear his voice from heaven so that he could instruct you; and here on earth he let you see his holy fire, and he spoke to you from it. 37 Because he loved your ancestors, he chose you, and by his great power he himself brought you out of Egypt. 38 As you advanced, he drove out nations greater and more powerful than you, so that he might bring you in and give you their land, the land which still belongs to you. 39 So remember today and never forget: the LORD is God in heaven and on earth. There is no other god. 40 Obey all his laws that I have given you today, and all will go well with you and your descendants. You will continue to live in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to be yours forever."
KJV w/Strong# - {5} And thou shalt love <0157> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> with all <03605> thine heart <03824>, and with all <03605> thy soul <05315>, and with all <03605> thy might <03966>. {6} And these words <01697>, which <0834> I command <06680> thee this day <03117>, shall be in thine heart <03824>: {7} And thou shalt teach <08150> them diligently <08150> unto thy children <01121>, and shalt talk <01696> of them when thou sittest <03427> in thine house <01004>, and when thou walkest <03212> by the way <01870>, and when thou liest <07901> down <07901>, and when thou risest <06965> up.
{18} And thou shalt do <06213> [that which is] right <03477> and good <02896> in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>:...
NRSV - 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. 6 Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. 7 Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.
18 Do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD,...
TEV - "The Great Commandment" - 4 "Israel, remember this! The LORD -- and the LORD alone -- is our God. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 Never forget these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Teach them to your children. Repeat them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working. 8 Tie them on your arms and wear them on your foreheads as a reminder. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.
"Warning against Disobedience" - 16 "Do not put the LORD your God to the test, as you did at Massah. 17 Be sure that you obey all the laws that he has given you. 18 Do what the LORD says is right and good, and all will go well with you. You will be able to take possession of the fertile land that the LORD promised your ancestors, 19 and you will drive out your enemies, as he promised.

KJV w/Strong# - {9} Break <06476> forth into joy, sing <07442> together <03162>, ye waste <02723> places of Jerusalem <03389>: for the LORD <03068> hath comforted <05162> his people <05971>, he hath redeemed <01350> Jerusalem <03389>. {10} The LORD <03068> hath made bare <02834> his holy <06944> arm <02220> in the eyes <05869> of all <03605> the nations <01471>; and all <03605> the ends <0657> of the earth <0776> shall see <07200> the salvation <03444> of our God <0430>.
NRSV - 9 Break forth together into singing, you ruins of Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. 10 The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
TEV - "God Will Rescue Jerusalem" - 9 Break into shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem! The LORD will rescue his city and comfort his people. 10 The LORD will use his holy power; he will save his people, and all the world will see it.
KJV w/Strong# - {14} And the Word <3056> was made <1096> flesh <4561>, and dwelt <4637> among <1722> us, (and we beheld <2300> his glory <1391>, the glory <1391> as of the only <3439> begotten <3439> of the Father <3962>,) full <4134> of grace <5485> and truth <225>.
NRSV - 14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.
TEV - "The Word of Life" - 14 The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father's only Son. 15 John spoke about him. He cried out, "This is the one I was talking about when I said, "He comes after me, but he is greater than I am, because he existed before I was born." 16 Out of the fullness of his grace he has blessed us all, giving us one blessing after another. 17 God gave the Law through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is the same as God and is at the Father's side, he has made him known.
KJV w/Strong# - {23} And Jesus <2424> went <4013> about <4013> all <3650> Galilee <1056>, teaching <1321> in their synagogues <4864>, and preaching <2784> the gospel <2098> of the kingdom <932>, and healing <2323> all <3956> manner of sickness <3554> and all <3956> manner of disease <3119> among <1722> the people <2992>.
NRSV - 23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.
TEV - "Jesus Teaches, Preaches, and Heals" - 23 Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the Good News about the Kingdom, and healing people who had all kinds of disease and sickness. 24 The news about him spread through the whole country of Syria, so that people brought to him all those who were sick, suffering from all kinds of diseases and disorders: people with demons, and epileptics, and paralytics -- and Jesus healed them all. 25 Large crowds followed him from Galilee and the Ten Towns, from Jerusalem, Judea, and the land on the other side of the Jordan.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} And seeing <1492> the multitudes <3793>, he went <305> up into <1519> a mountain <3735>: and when he was set <2523>, his disciples <3101> came <4334> unto him: {2} And he opened <455> his mouth <4750>, and taught <1321> them, saying <3004>, {3} Blessed <3107> [are] the poor <4434> in spirit <4151>: for theirs <846> is the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772>. {4} Blessed <3107> [are] they that mourn <3996>: for they shall be comforted <3870>. {5} Blessed <3107> [are] the meek <4239>: for they shall inherit <2816> the earth <1093>. {6} Blessed <3107> [are] they which <3588> do hunger <3983> and thirst <1372> after righteousness <1343>: for they shall be filled <5526>. {7} Blessed <3107> [are] the merciful <1655>: for they shall obtain <1653> mercy <1653>. {8} Blessed <3107> [are] the pure <2513> in heart <2588>: for they shall see <3700> God <2316>. {9} Blessed <3107> [are] the peacemakers <1518>: for they shall be called <2564> the children <5207> of God <2316>. {10} Blessed <3107> [are] they which are persecuted <1377> for righteousness <1343>' sake <1752>: for theirs <846> is the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772>.
{16} Let your <5216> light <5457> so <3779> shine <2989> before <1715> men <444>, that they may see <1492> your <5216> good <2570> works <2041>, and glorify <1392> your <5216> Father <3962> which <3588> is in heaven <3772>. {17} Think <3543> not that I am come <2064> to destroy <2647> the law <3551>, or <2228> the prophets <4396>: I am not come <2064> to destroy <2647>, but to fulfil <4137>.
NRSV - 1 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: 3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. 8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. 17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
TEV - "The Sermon on the Mount" - 1 Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered around him, 2 and he began to teach them:
"True Happiness" - 3 "Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! 4 "Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them! 5 "Happy are those who are humble; they will receive what God has promised! 6 "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully! 7 "Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them! 8 "Happy are the pure in heart; they will see God! 9 "Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children! 10 "Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!
"Salt and Light" - 13 "You are like salt for all mankind. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people trample on it. 14 "You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead he puts it on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.
"Teaching about the Law" - 17 "Do not think that I have come to do away with the Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets. I have not come to do away with them, but to make their teachings come true. 18 Remember that as long as heaven and earth last, not the least point nor the smallest detail of the Law will be done away with -- not until the end of all things. 19 So then, whoever disobeys even the least important of the commandments and teaches others to do the same, will be least in the Kingdom of heaven. On the other hand, whoever obeys the Law and teaches others to do the same, will be great in the Kingdom of heaven.
KJV w/Strong# - {8} Heal <2323> the sick <770>, cleanse <2511> the lepers <3015>, raise <1453> the dead <3498>, cast <1544> out devils <1140>: freely <1432> ye have received <2983>, freely <1432> give <1325>.
NRSV - 8 Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment.
TEV - "The Mission of the Twelve" - 5 These twelve men were sent out by Jesus with the following instructions: "Do not go to any Gentile territory or any Samaritan towns. 6 Instead, you are to go to the lost sheep of the people of Israel. 7 Go and preach, "The Kingdom of heaven is near!' 8 Heal the sick, bring the dead back to life, heal those who suffer from dreaded skin diseases, and drive out demons. You have received without paying, so give without being paid. 9 Do not carry any gold, silver, or copper money in your pockets; 10 do not carry a beggar's bag for the trip or an extra shirt or shoes or a walking stick. A worker should be given what he needs.

KJV w/Strong# - {7} The law <08451> of the LORD <03068> [is] perfect <08549>, converting <07725> the soul <05315>: the testimony <05715> of the LORD <03068> [is] sure <0539>, making wise <02449> the simple <06612>. {8} The statutes <06490> of the LORD <03068> [are] right <03477>, rejoicing <08055> the heart <03820>: the commandment <04687> of the LORD <03068> [is] pure <01249>, enlightening <0215> the eyes <05869>.
NRSV - 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the LORD are sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eyes;
TEV - "The Law of the LORD" - 7 The law of the LORD is perfect; it gives new strength. The commands of the LORD are trustworthy, giving wisdom to those who lack it. 8 The laws of the LORD are right, and those who obey them are happy. The commands of the LORD are just and give understanding to the mind. 9 Reverence for the LORD is good; it will continue forever. The judgments of the LORD are just; they are always fair. 10 They are more desirable than the finest gold; they are sweeter than the purest honey.
KJV w/Strong# - {17} Bow <05186> down <05186> thine ear <0241>, and hear <08085> the words <01697> of the wise <02450>, and apply <07896> thine heart <03820> unto my knowledge <01847>.
{19} That thy trust <04009> may be in the LORD <03068>, I have made known <03045> to thee this day <03117>, even <0637> to thee. {20} Have not I written <03789> to thee excellent <07991> things in counsels <04156> and knowledge <01847>, {21} That I might make thee know <03045> the certainty <07189> of the words <0561> of truth <0571>; that thou mightest answer <07725> the words <0561> of truth <0571> to them that send <07971> unto thee?
NRSV - 17 The words of the wise: Incline your ear and hear my words, and apply your mind to my teaching;
19 So that your trust may be in the LORD, I have made them known to you today -- yes, to you. 20 Have I not written for you thirty sayings of admonition and knowledge, 21 to show you what is right and true, so that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?
TEV - "The Thirty Wise Sayings" - 17 Listen, and I will teach you what wise men have said. Study their teachings, 18 and you will be glad if you remember them and can quote them. 19 I want you to put your trust in the LORD; that is why I am going to tell them to you now. 20 I have written down thirty sayings for you. They contain knowledge and good advice, 21 and will teach you what the truth really is. Then when you are sent to find it out, you will bring back the right answer.
KJV w/Strong# - {20} ...keep <5442> that which is committed <3872> to thy trust, avoiding <1624> profane <952> [and] vain <2757> babblings <2757>, and oppositions <477> of science <1108> falsely <5581> so called <5581>: {21} Which <3739> some <5100> professing <1861> have erred <795> concerning <4012> the faith <4102>...
"Knowledge" (gnosis) is used here in the technical sense as the self-designation of the false teachers. The question as to what kind of Gnosis is represented by these people is not answered by this designation. But it certainly was a particular teaching which could be differentiated from that of the church.
The expression what is falsely called knowledge has given rise to some problems of interpretation. Some interpreters have claimed that what is being referred to here is a certain Gnostic movement, since the Gnostics claim to possess a certain kind of knowledge that enables them to have communion with the divine. Others maintain that it is not Gnosticism that is being referred to here but the teachings of the fasle teachers that are described in various ways in the letters (see especially 1.3-7 and 4.1-4). It is difficult to be sure, but the use of the word knowledge seems to indicate that some form of Gnosticism was present at that time; it is even possible that some of the false teachers were influenced in some way by Gnostic teaching, as for instance the emphasis on genealogies... Another way to express this clause is "that some people say is 'knowledge,' but it really isn't."
An alternative translation model for this verse is:
Timothy, you must keep safe what God has given you to look after. Don't listen to people who incessantly say stupid (or, empty) words that show no reverence for God, and argue stupidly. They call this "knowledge," but it really isn't.
NRSV - 20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the profane chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge; 21 by professing it some have missed the mark as regards the faith....
TEV - "Personal Instructions" - 17 Command those who are rich in the things of this life not to be proud, but to place their hope, not in such an uncertain thing as riches, but in God, who generously gives us everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share with others. 19 In this way they will store up for themselves a treasure which will be a solid foundation for the future. And then they will be able to win the life which is true life. 20 Timothy, keep safe what has been entrusted to your care. Avoid the profane talk and foolish arguments of what some people wrongly call "Knowledge." 21 For some have claimed to possess it, and as a result they have lost the way of faith. God's grace be with you all.
KJV w/Strong# - {14} But continue <3306> thou in the things which <3739> thou hast learned <3129> and hast been assured <4104> of, knowing <1492> of whom <5101> thou hast learned <3129> [them]; {15} And that from a child <1025> thou hast known <1492> the holy <2413> scriptures <1121>, which <3588> are able <1410> to make <4679> thee wise <4679> unto salvation <4991> through <1223> faith <4102> which <3588> is in Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>. {16} All <3956> scripture <1124> [is] given by inspiration <2315> of God <2315>, and [is] profitable <5624> for doctrine <1319>, for reproof <1650>, for correction <1882>, for instruction <3809> in righteousness <1343>: {17} That the man <444> of God <2316> may be perfect <739>, throughly <1822> furnished <1822> unto all <3956> good <18> works <2041>.
NRSV - 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, 15 and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.
TEV - "Last Instructions" - 14 But as for you, continue in the truths that you were taught and firmly believe. You know who your teachers were, 15 and you remember that ever since you were a child, you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, 17 so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed.

KJV w/Strong# - {13} As one <0376> whom <0834> his mother <0517> comforteth <05162>, so <03651> will I comfort <05162> you; and ye shall be comforted <05162> in Jerusalem <03389>.
NRSV - 13 As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
TEV - "The LORD Judges the Nations" - 12 The LORD says, "I will bring you lasting prosperity; the wealth of the nations will flow to you like a river that never goes dry. You will be like a child that is nursed by its mother, carried in her arms, and treated with love. 13 I will comfort you in Jerusalem, as a mother comforts her child. 14 When you see this happen, you will be glad; it will make you strong and healthy. Then you will know that I, the LORD, help those who obey me, and I show my anger against my enemies." 15 The LORD will come with fire. He will ride on the wings of a storm to punish those he is angry with. 16 By fire and sword he will punish all the people of the world whom he finds guilty -- and many will be put to death.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Comfort <05162> ye, comfort <05162> ye my people <05971>, saith <0559> your God <0430>.
{9} O Zion <06726>, that bringest <01319> good <01319> tidings <01319>, get <05927> thee up into <05921> the high <01364> mountain <02022>; O Jerusalem <03389>, that bringest <01319> good tidings <01319>, lift <07311> up thy voice <06963> with strength <03581>; lift <07311> [it] up, be not afraid <03372>; say <0559> unto the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, Behold <02009> your God <0430>! {10} Behold <02009>, the Lord <0136> GOD <03069> will come <0935> with strong <02389> [hand], and his arm <02220> shall rule <04910> for him: behold <02009>, his reward <07939> [is] with him, and his work <06468> before <06440> him. {11} He shall feed <07462> his flock <05739> like a shepherd <07462>: he shall gather <06908> the lambs <02922> with his arm <02220>, and carry <05375> [them] in his bosom <02436>, [and] shall gently lead <05095> those that are with young <05763>.
NRSV - 1 Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God.
9 Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings, lift it up, do not fear; say to the cities of Judah, "Here is your God!" 10 See, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.
TEV - "Words of Hope" - 1 "Comfort my people," says our God. "Comfort them! 2 Encourage the people of Jerusalem. Tell them they have suffered long enough and their sins are now forgiven. I have punished them in full for all their sins."
9 Jerusalem, go up on a high mountain and proclaim the good news! Call out with a loud voice, Zion; announce the good news! Speak out and do not be afraid. Tell the towns of Judah that their God is coming! 10 The Sovereign LORD is coming to rule with power, bringing with him the people he has rescued. 11 He will take care of his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs together and carry them in his arms; he will gently lead their mothers.
KJV w/Strong# - {10} Therefore fear <03372> thou not, O my servant <05650> Jacob <03290>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; neither <0408> be dismayed <02865>, O Israel <03478>: for, lo <02009>, I will save <03467> thee from afar <07350>, and thy seed <02233> from the land <0776> of their captivity <07628>; and Jacob <03290> shall return <07725>, and shall be in rest <08252>, and be quiet <07599>, and none <0369> shall make [him] afraid <02729>. {11} For I [am] with thee, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, to save <03467> thee:...
{17} For I will restore <05927> health <0724> unto thee, and I will heal <07495> thee of thy wounds <04347>, saith the LORD <03068>;...
{22} And ye shall be my people <05971>, and I will be your God <0430>.
NRSV - 10 But as for you, have no fear, my servant Jacob, says the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel; for I am going to save you from far away, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and no one shall make him afraid. 11 For I am with you, says the LORD, to save you;...
17 For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, says the LORD,...
22 And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
TEV - "The LORD's Promises to His People" - 8 The LORD Almighty says, "When that day comes, I will break the yoke that is around their neck and remove their chains, and they will no longer be the slaves of foreigners. 9 Instead, they will serve me, the LORD their God, and a descendant of David, whom I will enthrone as king. 10 "My people, do not be afraid; people of Israel, do not be terrified. I will rescue you from that faraway land, from the land where you are prisoners. You will come back home and live in peace; you will be secure, and no one will make you afraid. 11 I will come to you and save you. I will destroy all the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not destroy you. I will not let you go unpunished; but when I punish you, I will be fair. I, the LORD, have spoken." 12 The LORD says to his people, "Your wounds are incurable, your injuries cannot be healed. 13 There is no one to take care of you, no remedy for your sores, no hope of healing for you.
16 But now, all who devour you will be devoured, and all your enemies will be taken away as prisoners. All who oppress you will be oppressed, and all who plunder you will be plundered. 17 I will make you well again; I will heal your wounds, though your enemies say, "Zion is an outcast; no one cares about her.' I, the LORD, have spoken."
21...22 Their ruler will come from their own nation, their prince from their own people. He will approach me when I invite him, for who would dare come uninvited? They will be my people, and I will be their God. I, the LORD, have spoken."
KJV w/Strong# - {16} And we have known <1097> and believed <4100> the love <26> that God <2316> hath <2192> to us. God <2316> is love <26>; and he that dwelleth <3306> in love <26> dwelleth <3306> in God <2316>, and God <2316> in him.
{18} There is no <3756> fear <5401> in love <26>; but perfect <5046> love <26> casteth <906> out fear <5401>:...
NRSV - 16 So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.
18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear;...
TEV - "God Is Love" - 15 If anyone declares that Jesus is the Son of God, he lives in union with God and God lives in union with him. 16 And we ourselves know and believe the love which God has for us. God is love, and whoever lives in love lives in union with God and God lives in union with him. 17 Love is made perfect in us in order that we may have courage on the Judgment Day; and we will have it because our life in this world is the same as Christ's. 18 There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out all fear. So then, love has not been made perfect in anyone who is afraid, because fear has to do with punishment.

KJV w/Strong# - {13} Now <1161> the God <2316> of hope <1680> fill <4137> you with all <3956> joy <5479> and peace <1515> in believing <4100>, that ye may abound <4052> in hope <1680>, through <1722> the power <1411> of the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.
NRSV - 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
TEV - "The Gospel to the Gentiles" - 11 And again, "Praise the Lord, all Gentiles; praise him, all peoples!" 12 And again, Isaiah says, "A descendant of Jesse will appear; he will come to rule the Gentiles, and they will put their hope in him." 13 May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.
KJV w/Strong# - {40} And it came <1096> to pass, that, when <3588> Jesus <2424> was returned <5290>, the people <3793> [gladly] received <588> him: for they were all <3956> waiting <4328> for him.
NRSV - 40 Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.
TEV - "Jairus' Daughter and the Woman Who Touched Jesus' Cloak" - 40 When Jesus returned to the other side of the lake, the people welcomed him, because they had all been waiting for him. 41 Then a man named Jairus arrived; he was an official in the local synagogue. He threw himself down at Jesus' feet and begged him to go to his home, 42 because his only daughter, who was twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus went along, the people were crowding him from every side.
KJV w/Strong# - {10} And he was teaching <1321> in one <3391> of the synagogues <4864> on <1722> the sabbath <4521>. {11} And, behold <2400>, there was a woman <1135> which had <2192> a spirit <4151> of infirmity <769> eighteen <1176> <3638> years <2094>, and was bowed <4794> together <4794>, and could <1410> in no <3361> wise <3838> lift <352> up [herself]. {12} And when Jesus <2424> saw <1492> her, he called <4377> [her to him], and said <2036> unto her, Woman <1135>, thou art loosed <630> from thine <4675> infirmity <769>. {13} And he laid <2007> [his] hands <5495> on <2007> her: and immediately <3916> she was made <461> straight <461>, and glorified <1392> God <2316>.
NRSV - 10 Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. 11 And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, "Woman, you are set free from your ailment." 13 When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God.
TEV - "Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath" - 10 One Sabbath Jesus was teaching in a synagogue. 11 A woman there had an evil spirit that had kept her sick for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called out to her, "Woman, you are free from your sickness!" 13 He placed his hands on her, and at once she straightened herself up and praised God. 14 The official of the synagogue was angry that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, so he spoke up and said to the people, "There are six days in which we should work; so come during those days and be healed, but not on the Sabbath!"
KJV w/Strong# - {57} ...thanks <5485> [be] to God <2316>, which <3588> giveth <1325> us the victory <3534> through <1223> our Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>. {58} Therefore <5620>, my beloved <27> brethren <80>, be ye stedfast <1476>, unmoveable <277>, always <3842> abounding <4052> in the work <2041> of the Lord <2962>, forasmuch as ye know <1492> that your <5216> labour <2873> is not in vain <2756> in the Lord <2962>.
NRSV - 57 ...thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
TEV - "The Resurrection Body" - 55 "Where, Death, is your victory? Where, Death, is your power to hurt?" 56 Death gets its power to hurt from sin, and sin gets its power from the Law. 57 But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! 58 So then, my dear brothers, stand firm and steady. Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless.

KJV w/Strong# - {11} Beloved <27>, follow <3401> not that which is evil <2556>, but that which is good <18>. He that doeth <15> good <15> is of God <2316>: but he that doeth <2554> evil <2554> hath not seen <3708> God <2316>.
NRSV - 11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil but imitate what is good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.
TEV - "Diotrephes and Demetrius" - 9 I wrote a short letter to the church; but Diotrephes, who likes to be their leader, will not pay any attention to what I say. 10 When I come, then, I will bring up everything he has done: the terrible things he says about us and the lies he tells! But that is not enough for him; he will not receive the Christian brothers when they come, and even stops those who want to receive them and tries to drive them out of the church! 11 My dear friend, do not imitate what is bad, but imitate what is good. Whoever does good belongs to God; whoever does what is bad has not seen God. 12 Everyone speaks well of Demetrius; truth itself speaks well of him. And we add our testimony, and you know that what we say is true.
KJV w/Strong# - {11} ...A certain <5100> man <444> had <2192> two <1417> sons <5207>: {12} And the younger <3501> of them said <2036> to [his] father <3962>, Father <3962>, give <1325> me the portion <3313> of goods <3776> that falleth <1911> [to me]. And he divided <1244> unto them [his] living <979>. {13} And not many <4183> days <2250> after <3326> the younger <3501> son <5207> gathered <4863> all <537> together <4863>, and took <589> his journey <589> into <1519> a far <3117> country <5561>, and there <1563> wasted <1287> his substance <3776> with riotous <811> living <2198>. {14} And when he had spent <1159> all <3956>, there arose <1096> a mighty <2478> famine <3042> in that land <5561>; and he began <756> to be in want <5302>.
{17} And when he came <2064> to himself <1438>, he said <2036>, How <4214> many <4214> hired <3407> servants <3407> of my father's <3962> have bread <740> enough <4052> and to spare <4052>, and I perish <622> with hunger <3042>! {18} I will arise <450> and go <4198> to my father <3962>, and will say <2046> unto him, Father <3962>, I have sinned <264> against <1519> heaven <3772>, and before <1799> thee, {19} And am <1510> no <3765> more <3765> worthy <514> to be called <2564> thy son <5207>: make <4160> me as one <1520> of thy hired <3407> servants <3407>. {20} And he arose <450>, and came <2064> to his father <3962>. But when he was yet <2089> a great <3112> way <3112> off <568>, his father <3962> saw <1492> him, and had compassion <4697>, and ran <5143>, and fell <1968> on <1909> his neck <5137>, and kissed <2705> him. {21} And the son <5207> said <2036> unto him, Father <3962>, I have sinned <264> against <1519> heaven <3772>, and in thy sight <1799>, and am <1510> no <3765> more <3765> worthy <514> to be called <2564> thy son <5207>. {22} But the father <3962> said <2036> to his servants <1401>, Bring <1627> forth <1627> the best <4413> robe <4749>, and put <1746> [it] on <1746> him; and put <1325> a ring <1146> on <1519> his hand <5495>, and shoes <5266> on <1519> [his] feet <4228>:
{24} For this <3778> my son <5207> was dead <3498>, and is alive <326> again <326>; he was lost <622>, and is found <2147>...
NRSV - 11 ..."There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger of them said to his father, "Father, give me the share of the property that will belong to me.' So he divided his property between them. 13 A few days later the younger son gathered all he had and traveled to a distant country, and there he squandered his property in dissolute living. 14 When he had spent everything, a severe famine took place throughout that country, and he began to be in need.
17 But when he came to himself he said, "How many of my father's hired hands have bread enough and to spare, but here I am dying of hunger! 18 I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired hands."' 20 So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him. 21 Then the son said to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' 22 But the father said to his slaves, "Quickly, bring out a robe -- the best one -- and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
24 for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!'...
TEV - "The Lost Son" - 11 Jesus went on to say, "There was once a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to him, "Father, give me my share of the property now.' So the man divided his property between his two sons. 13 After a few days the younger son sold his part of the property and left home with the money. He went to a country far away, where he wasted his money in reckless living. 14 He spent everything he had. Then a severe famine spread over that country, and he was left without a thing. 15 So he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him out to his farm to take care of the pigs. 16 He wished he could fill himself with the bean pods the pigs ate, but no one gave him anything to eat. 17 At last he came to his senses and said, "All my father's hired workers have more than they can eat, and here I am about to starve! 18 I will get up and go to my father and say, "Father, I have sinned against God and against you. 19 I am no longer fit to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired workers." 20 So he got up and started back to his father. 20b "He was still a long way from home when his father saw him; his heart was filled with pity, and he ran, threw his arms around his son, and kissed him. 21 "Father,' the son said, "I have sinned against God and against you. I am no longer fit to be called your son.' 22 But the father called to his servants. "Hurry!' he said. "Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and shoes on his feet. 23 Then go and get the prize calf and kill it, and let us celebrate with a feast! 24 For this son of mine was dead, but now he is alive; he was lost, but now he has been found.' And so the feasting began.
KJV w/Strong# - {65} Thou hast dealt <06213> well <02896> with thy servant <05650>, O LORD <03068>, according unto thy word <01697>. {66} Teach <03925> me good <02898> judgment <02940> and knowledge <01847>: for I have believed <0539> thy commandments <04687>. {67} Before <02962> I was afflicted <06031> I went <07683> astray <07683>: but now <06258> have I kept <08104> thy word <0565>. {68} Thou [art] good <02896>, and doest good <02895>; teach <03925> me thy statutes <02706>.
NRSV - 65 You have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according to your word. 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments. 67 Before I was humbled I went astray, but now I keep your word. 68 You are good and do good; teach me your statutes.
TEV - "The Value of the Law of the LORD" - 65 You have kept your promise, LORD, and you are good to me, your servant. 66 Give me wisdom and knowledge, because I trust in your commands. 67 Before you punished me, I used to go wrong, but now I obey your word. 68 How good you are -- how kind! Teach me your commands. 69 Proud men have told lies about me, but with all my heart I obey your instructions. 70 These men have no understanding, but I find pleasure in your law. 71 My punishment was good for me, because it made me learn your commands.

KJV w/Strong# - {6} Train <02596> up a child <05288> in the way <01870> he should go <06310>: and when <03588> he is old <02204>, he will not depart <05493> from it.
NRSV - 6 Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.
TEV - "Solomon's Proverbs" - 1 If you have to choose between a good reputation and great wealth, choose a good reputation. 2 The rich and the poor have this in common: the LORD made them both. 3 Sensible people will see trouble coming and avoid it, but an unthinking person will walk right into it and regret it later. 4 Obey the LORD, be humble, and you will get riches, honor, and a long life. 5 If you love your life, stay away from the traps that catch the wicked along the way. 6 Teach a child how he should live, and he will remember it all his life. 7 Poor people are the rich man's slaves. Borrow money and you are the lender's slave.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Thou therefore <3767>, my son <5043>, be strong <1743> in the grace <5485> that is in Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>. {2} And the things that thou hast heard <191> of me among <1223> many <4183> witnesses <3144>, the same <5023> commit <3908> thou to faithful <4103> men <444>, who <3748> shall be able <2425> to teach <1321> others <2087> also <2532>.
{7} Consider <3539> what <3739> I say <3004>; and the Lord <2962> give <1325> thee understanding <4907> in all <3956> things.
{15} Study <4704> to shew <3936> thyself <4572> approved <1384> unto God <2316>, a workman <2040> that needeth <422> not to be ashamed <422>, rightly dividing <3718> the word <3056> of truth <225>. {16} But shun <4026> profane <952> [and] vain <2757> babblings <2757>: for they will increase <4298> unto more <4119> ungodliness <763>.
NRSV - 1 You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus; 2 and what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well.
7 Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth. 16 Avoid profane chatter, for it will lead people into more and more impiety,
TEV - "A Loyal Soldier of Christ Jesus" - 1 As for you, my son, be strong through the grace that is ours in union with Christ Jesus. 2 Take the teachings that you heard me proclaim in the presence of many witnesses, and entrust them to reliable people, who will be able to teach others also. 3 Take your part in suffering, as a loyal soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 A soldier on active duty wants to please his commanding officer and so does not get mixed up in the affairs of civilian life. 5 An athlete who runs in a race cannot win the prize unless he obeys the rules. 6 The farmer who has done the hard work should have the first share of the harvest. 7 Think about what I am saying, because the Lord will enable you to understand it all.
"An Approved Worker" - 14 Remind your people of this, and give them a solemn warning in God's presence not to fight over words. It does no good, but only ruins the people who listen. 15 Do your best to win full approval in God's sight, as a worker who is not ashamed of his work, one who correctly teaches the message of God's truth. 16 Keep away from profane and foolish discussions, which only drive people farther away from God. 17 Such teaching is like an open sore that eats away the flesh. Two men who have taught such things are Hymenaeus and Philetus. 18 They have left the way of truth and are upsetting the faith of some believers by saying that our resurrection has already taken place.
KJV w/Strong# - {10} For precept <06673> [must be] upon precept <06673>, precept <06673> upon precept <06673>; line <06957> upon line <06957>, line <06957> upon line <06957>; here <08033> a little <02191>, [and] there <08033> a little <02191>:
NRSV - 10 For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little."
TEV - "Isaiah and the Drunken Prophets of Judah" - 7 Even the prophets and the priests are so drunk that they stagger. They have drunk so much wine and liquor that they stumble in confusion. The prophets are too drunk to understand the visions that God sends, and the priests are too drunk to decide the cases that are brought to them. 8 The tables where they sit are all covered with vomit, and not a clean spot is left. 9 They complain about me. They say, "Who does that man think he's teaching? Who needs his message? It's only good for babies that have just stopped nursing! 10 He is trying to teach us letter by letter, line by line, lesson by lesson."
KJV w/Strong# - {10} For the mountains <02022> shall depart <04185>, and the hills <01389> be removed <04131>; but my kindness <02617> shall not depart <04185> from thee, neither <03808> shall the covenant <01285> of my peace <07965> be removed <04131>, saith <0559> the LORD <03068> that hath mercy <07355> on thee.
{13} And all <03605> thy children <01121> [shall be] taught <03928> of the LORD <03068>; and great <07227> [shall be] the peace <07965> of thy children <01121>.
NRSV - 10 For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
13 All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the prosperity of your children.
TEV - "The LORD's Love for Israel" - 9 "In the time of Noah I promised never again to flood the earth. Now I promise not to be angry with you again; I will not reprimand or punish you. 10 The mountains and hills may crumble, but my love for you will never end; I will keep forever my promise of peace." So says the LORD who loves you.
"The Future Jerusalem" - 11 The LORD says, "O Jerusalem, you suffering, helpless city, with no one to comfort you, I will rebuild your foundations with precious stones. 12 I will build your towers with rubies, your gates with stones that glow like fire, and the wall around you with jewels. 13 "I myself will teach your people and give them prosperity and peace. 14 Justice and right will make you strong. You will be safe from oppression and terror. 15 If anyone attacks you, he does it without my consent; whoever fights against you will fall.
