KJV w/Strong# (From the ABS Reference
Bible CDROM, published by the American
Bible Society. Used by permission.) Verse numbers are indicated by
French brackets { }. Strong's numbers are enclosed in less-than
and greater-than signs < > and identify the Hebrew or Greek
words from which the KJV words were translated. For a list of some
very helpful Bible study resources that are keyed to Strong's number system,
browse or click on http://www.bibletexts.com/strongs.htm.
Please keep in mind that the Strong's numbers do not necessarily represent
the Hebrew and Greek words that were in the original texts -- only those
Hebrew and Greek texts from which the KJV was translated.
All the books of the Old Testament, except Daniel, were first written in Hebrew. The Book of Daniel was first written in Aramaic. And all the books of the New Textament were first written in Greek. The United Bible Societies' Biblia Hebraica and Greek New Testament are the most internationally recognized and definitive reconstructions of the original texts. They are based upon an exhaustive analysis of all of the thousands of available ancient manuscripts. The Hebrew and Greek texts from which the KJV were translated had many errors. {See S&H 139:15-22} This explains why some of the KJV (and New KJV) texts differ so significantly from reliable modern versions. (The New KJV is not really a new translation. It is really simply a modernization of the language of the KJV, and it contains all of the errors that are in the KJV.) Most modern versions are based upon today's best approximation of "the original texts." {See S&H 24:4.} For more details, you can browse or click on http://www.bibletexts.com/kjv-mod.htm to read an article entitled, "Why the King James Version differs with modern versions."
DHH (Dios Habla Hoy, Copyright, 1994, by the United Bible Societies (Sociedades Bíblicas Unidas), also known as Versión Popular. Used by permission. All rights reserved.) This is the Spanish version of the Good News Bible, the Spanish equivalent of the Today's English Version {TEV}. The DHH is translated directly from the same reliable Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts as those used in translating the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and the Today's English Version (TEV) .

KJV w/Strong# - {17} ...the temple <3485> of God <2316> is holy <40>, which <3748> [temple] ye are.
NRSV - 17 ...God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.
TEV - "Servants of God" - 16 Surely you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you! 17 So if anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you yourselves are his temple.
KJV w/Strong# - {13} Brethren <80>, I count <3049> not myself to have apprehended <2638>: but [this] one <1520> thing <1520> [I do], forgetting <1950> those <3588> things which are behind <3694>, and reaching <1901> forth <1901> unto those <3588> things which are before <1715>, {14} I press <1377> toward <2596> the mark <4649> for the prize <1017> of the high <507> calling <2821> of God <2316> in Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>. {15} Let us therefore <3767>, as many <3745> as be perfect <5046>, be thus <5124> minded <5426>: and if <1487> in any <1536> thing ye be otherwise <2088> minded <5426>, God <2316> shall reveal <601> even <2532> this <5124> unto you. {16} Nevertheless <4133>, whereto <3739> we have already <5348> attained <5348>, let us walk <4748> by the same <846> rule <2583>, let us mind <5426> the same <846> thing.
{20} For our conversation <4175> is in heaven <3772>; from whence <3739> also <2532> we look <553> for the Saviour <4990>, the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>: {21} Who shall change <3345> our vile <5014> body <4983>, that it may be fashioned <4832> like <4832> unto his glorious <1391> body <4983>, according <2596> to the working <1753> whereby <3588> he is able <1410> even <2532> to subdue <5293> all <3956> things unto himself <1438>.
NRSV - 13 Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us then who are mature be of the same mind; and if you think differently about anything, this too God will reveal to you. 16 Only let us hold fast to what we have attained.
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21 He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself.
TEV - "Running toward the Goal" - 12 I do not claim that I have already succeeded or have already become perfect. I keep striving to win the prize for which Christ Jesus has already won me to himself. 13 Of course, my brothers, I really do not 4 think that I have already won it; the one thing I do, however, is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. 14 So I run straight toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God's call through Christ Jesus to the life above. 15 All of us who are spiritually mature should have this same attitude. But if some of you have a different attitude, God will make this clear to you. 16 However that may be, let us go forward according to the same rules we have followed until now. 17 Keep on imitating me, my brothers. Pay attention to those who follow the right example that we have set for you. 18 I have told you this many times before, and now I repeat it with tears: there are many whose lives make them enemies of Christ's death on the cross. 19 They are going to end up in hell, because their god is their bodily desires. They are proud of what they should be ashamed of, and they think only of things that belong to this world. 20 We, however, are citizens of heaven, and we eagerly wait for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, to come from heaven. 21 He will change our weak mortal bodies and make them like his own glorious body, using that power by which he is able to bring all things under his rule.
KJV w/Strong# - {4} Rejoice <5463> in the Lord <2962> alway <3842>: [and] again <3825> I say <2046>, Rejoice <5463>.
{7} And the peace <1515> of God <2316>, which <3588> passeth <5242> all <3956> understanding <3563>, shall keep <5432> your <5216> hearts <2588> and minds <3540> through <1722> Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>.
NRSV - 4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
TEV - "Instructions" - 1 So then, my brothers, how dear you are to me and how I miss you! How happy you make me, and how proud I am of you! -- this, dear brothers, is how you should stand firm in your life in the Lord. 2 Euodia and Syntyche, please, I beg you, try to agree as sisters in the Lord. 3 And you too, my faithful partner, I want you to help these women; for they have worked hard with me to spread the gospel, together with Clement and all my other fellow workers, whose names are in God's book of the living. 4 May you always be joyful in your union with the Lord. I say it again: rejoice! 5 Show a gentle attitude toward everyone. The Lord is coming soon. 6 Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. 7 And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. 8 In conclusion, my brothers, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable. 9 Put into practice what you learned and received from me, both from my words and from my actions. And the God who gives us peace will be with you.
<B1> Psalm 100
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Make a joyful <07321> noise <07321> unto the LORD <03068>, all <03605> ye lands <0776>. {2} Serve <05647> the LORD <03068> with gladness <08057>: come <0935> before his presence <06440> with singing <07445>. {3} Know <03045> ye that the LORD <03068> he [is] God <0430>: [it is] he [that] hath made <06213> us, and not we ourselves <0587>; [we are] his people <05971>, and the sheep <06629> of his pasture <04830>.
NRSV - 1 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come into his presence with singing. 3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
TEV - "A Hymn of Praise" - 1 Sing to the LORD, all the world! 2 Worship the LORD with joy; come before him with happy songs! 3 Acknowledge that the LORD is God. He made us, and we belong to him; we are his people, we are his flock. 4 Enter the Temple gates with thanksgiving; go into its courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise him. 5 The LORD is good; his love is eternal and his faithfulness lasts forever.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} O LORD <03068>, thou hast searched <02713> me, and known <03045> [me].
{14} I will praise <03034> thee; for I am fearfully <03372> [and] wonderfully <06395> made: marvellous <06381> [are] thy works <04639>; and [that] my soul <05315> knoweth <03045> right well.
DHH - 1 Señor, tú me has examinado y me conoces;
NRSV - 1 O LORD, you have searched me and known me.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.
TEV - "God's Complete Knowledge and Care" - 1 LORD, you have examined me and you know me. 2 You know everything I do; from far away you understand all my thoughts. 3 You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know all my actions. 4 Even before I speak, you already know what I will say. 5 You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your power. 6 Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding.
13 You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you because you are to be feared; all you do is strange and wonderful. I know it with all my heart. 15 When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother's womb, when I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there -- 16 you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book, before any of them ever began.
KJV w/Strong# - {4} One <0259> [thing] have I desired <07592> of the LORD <03068>, that will I seek <01245> after; that I may dwell <03427> in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> all <03605> the days <03117> of my life <02416>, to behold <02372> the beauty <05278> of the LORD <03068>, and to enquire <01239> in his temple <01964>. {5} For in the time <03117> of trouble <07451> he shall hide <06845> me in his pavilion <05520>: in the secret <05643> of his tabernacle <0168> shall he hide <05641> me; he shall set <07311> me up upon a rock <06697>.
NRSV - 4 One thing I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. 5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock.
TEV - "A Prayer of Praise" - 4 I have asked the LORD for one thing; one thing only do I want: to live in the LORD's house all my life, to marvel there at his goodness, and to ask for his guidance. 5 In times of trouble he will shelter me; he will keep me safe in his Temple and make me secure on a high rock. 6 So I will triumph over my enemies around me. With shouts of joy I will offer sacrifices in his Temple; I will sing, I will praise the LORD.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} But now <06258> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> that created <01254> thee, O Jacob <03290>, and he that formed <03335> thee, O Israel <03478>, Fear <03372> not: for I have redeemed <01350> thee, I have called <07121> [thee] by thy name <08034>; thou [art] mine.
{21} This <02098> people <05971> have I formed <03335> for myself; they shall shew <05608> forth my praise <08416>.
NRSV - 1 But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
21 the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise.
TEV - "God Promises to Rescue His People" - 1 Israel, the LORD who created you says, "Do not be afraid -- I will save you. I have called you by name -- you are mine. 2 When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you. 3 For I am the LORD your God, the holy God of Israel, who saves you. I will give up Egypt to set you free; I will give up Sudan and Seba.
"Escape from Babylon" - 18 But the LORD says, "Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. 19 Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already -- you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there. 20 Even the wild animals will honor me; jackals and ostriches will praise me when I make rivers flow in the desert to give water to my chosen people. 21 They are the people I made for myself, and they will sing my praises!"
<B5> Psalm 104
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Bless <01288> the LORD <03068>, O my soul <05315>. O LORD <03068> my God <0430>, thou art very <03966> great <01431>; thou art clothed <03847> with honour <01935> and majesty <01926>. {2} Who coverest <05844> [thyself] with light <0216> as [with] a garment <08008>: who stretchest <05186> out the heavens <08064> like a curtain <03407>:
DHH - 1 ¡Bendeciré al Señor con toda mi alma! ¡Cuán grande eres, Señor y Dios mío! Te has vestido de gloria y esplendor; 2 te has envuelto en un manto de luz. ¡Tú extendiste el cielo como un velo!
NRSV - 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty, 2 wrapped in light as with a garment. You stretch out the heavens like a tent,
TEV - "In Praise of the Creator" - 1 Praise the LORD, my soul! O LORD, my God, how great you are! You are clothed with majesty and glory; 2 you cover yourself with light. You have spread out the heavens like a tent 3 and built your home on the waters above. You use the clouds as your chariot and ride on the wings of the wind. 4 You use the winds as your messengers and flashes of lightning as your servants.
KJV w/Strong# - {5} Thus <03541> saith <0559> God <0410> the LORD <03068>, he that created <01254> the heavens <08064>, and stretched <05186> them out; he that spread <07554> forth the earth <0776>, and that which cometh <06631> out of it; he that giveth <05414> breath <05397> unto the people <05971> upon it, and spirit <07307> to them that walk <01980> therein:
{8} I [am] the LORD <03068>: that [is] my name <08034>: and my glory <03519> will I not give <05414> to another <0312>, neither my praise <08416> to graven <06456> images. {9} Behold <02009>, the former <07223> things are come <0935> to pass, and new <02319> things do I declare <05046>: before <02962> they spring <06779> forth I tell <08085> you of them.
{16} And I will bring <03212> the blind <05787> by a way <01870> [that] they knew <03045> not; I will lead <01869> them in paths <05410> [that] they have not known <03045>: I will make <07760> darkness <04285> light <0216> before <06440> them, and crooked <04625> things straight <04334>. These <0428> things <01697> will I do <06213> unto them, and not forsake <05800> them.
NRSV - 5 Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it:
8 I am the LORD, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols. 9 See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them.
16 I will lead the blind by a road they do not know, by paths they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I will do, and I will not forsake them.
TEV - "The LORD's Servant" - 5 God created the heavens and stretched them out; he fashioned the earth and all that lives there; he gave life and breath to all its people. And now the LORD God says to his servant, 6 "I, the LORD, have called you and given you power to see that justice is done on earth. Through you I will make a covenant with all peoples; through you I will bring light to the nations. 7 You will open the eyes of the blind and set free those who sit in dark prisons. 8 "I alone am the LORD your God. No other god may share my glory; I will not let idols share my praise. 9 The things I predicted have now come true. Now I will tell you of new things even before they begin to happen."
"God Promises to Help His People" - 16 "I will lead my blind people by roads they have never traveled. I will turn their darkness into light and make rough country smooth before them. These are my promises, and I will keep them without fail. 17 All who trust in idols, who call images their gods, will be humiliated and disgraced."
KJV w/Strong# - {24} God <2316> that made <4160> the world <2889> and all <3956> things therein <846>, seeing that he is Lord <2962> of heaven <3772> and earth <1093>, dwelleth <2730> not in temples <3485> made <5499> with hands <5499>; {25} Neither <3761> is worshipped <2323> with men's <444> hands <5495>, as though he needed <4326> any <5100> thing, seeing he giveth <1325> to all <3956> life <2222>, and breath <4157>, and all <3956> things;
{28} For in him we live <2198>, and move <2795>, and have our being <2070>;...
NRSV - 24 The God who made the world and everything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by human hands, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things.
28 For "In him we live and move and have our being';...
TEV - "In Athens" - 22 Paul stood up in front of the city council and said, "I see that in every way you Athenians are very religious. 23 For as I walked through your city and looked at the places where you worship, I found an altar on which is written, "To an Unknown God.' That which you worship, then, even though you do not know it, is what I now proclaim to you. 24 God, who made the world and everything in it, is Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in man-made temples. 25 Nor does he need anything that we can supply by working for him, since it is he himself who gives life and breath and everything else to everyone. 26 From one man he created all races of mankind and made them live throughout the whole earth. He himself fixed beforehand the exact times and the limits of the places where they would live. 27 He did this so that they would look for him, and perhaps find him as they felt around for him. Yet God is actually not far from any one of us; 28 as someone has said, "In him we live and move and exist.' It is as some of your poets have said, "We too are his children.' 29 Since we are God's children, we should not suppose that his nature is anything like an image of gold or silver or stone, shaped by the art and skill of man. 30 God has overlooked the times when people did not know him, but now he commands all of them everywhere to turn away from their evil ways.
<B8> Matthew 4
KJV w/Strong# - {23} And Jesus <2424> went <4013> about <4013> all <3650> Galilee <1056>, teaching <1321> in their synagogues <4864>, and preaching <2784> the gospel <2098> of the kingdom <932>, and healing <2323> all <3956> manner of sickness <3554> and all <3956> manner of disease <3119> among <1722> the people <2992>. {24} And his fame <189> went <565> throughout <1519> all <3650> Syria <4947>: and they brought <4374> unto him all <3956> sick <2560> people that were taken <4912> with divers <4164> diseases <3554> and torments <931>, and those <3588> which were possessed <1139> with devils <1139>, and those which were lunatick <4583>, and those that had the palsy <3885>; and he healed <2323> them.
NRSV - 23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people. 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought to him all the sick, those who were afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he cured them.
TEV - "Jesus Teaches, Preaches, and Heals" - 23 Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the Good News about the Kingdom, and healing people who had all kinds of disease and sickness. 24 The news about him spread through the whole country of Syria, so that people brought to him all those who were sick, suffering from all kinds of diseases and disorders: people with demons, and epileptics, and paralytics -- and Jesus healed them all. 25 Large crowds followed him from Galilee and the Ten Towns, from Jerusalem, Judea, and the land on the other side of the Jordan.
KJV w/Strong# - {27} And when Jesus <2424> departed <3855> thence <1564>, two <1417> blind <5185> men followed <190> him, crying <2896>, and saying <3004>, [Thou] Son <5207> of David <1138>, have mercy <1653> on us. {28} And when he was come <2064> into <1519> the house <3614>, the blind <5185> men came <4334> to him: and Jesus <2424> saith <3004> unto them, Believe <4100> ye that I am able <1410> to do <4160> this <5124>? They said <3004> unto him, Yea <3483>, Lord <2962>. {29} Then <5119> touched <680> he their eyes <3788>, saying <3004>, According <2596> to your <5216> faith <4102> be it unto you. {30} And their eyes <3788> were opened <455>; and Jesus <2424> straitly charged <1690> them, saying <3004>, See <3708> [that] no <3767> man <3367> know <1097> [it]. {31} But they, when they were departed <1831>, spread <1310> abroad <1310> his fame <1310> in all <3650> that country <1093>.
NRSV - 27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, crying loudly, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" 28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord." 29 Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith let it be done to you." 30 And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly ordered them, "See that no one knows of this." 31 But they went away and spread the news about him throughout that district.
TEV - "Jesus Heals Two Blind Men" - 27 Jesus left that place, and as he walked along, two blind men started following him. "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" they shouted. 28 When Jesus had gone indoors, the two blind men came to him, and he asked them, "Do you believe that I can heal you?" "Yes, sir!" they answered. 29 Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, "Let it happen, then, just as you believe!" -- 30 and their sight was restored. Jesus spoke sternly to them, "Don't tell this to anyone!" 31 But they left and spread the news about Jesus all over that part of the country.
<B10> Proverbs 23
KJV w/Strong# - {19} Hear <08085> thou, my son <01121>, and be wise <02449>, and guide <0833> thine heart <03820> in the way <01870>.
{31} Look <07200> not thou upon the wine <03196> when <03588> it is red <0119>, when <03588> it giveth <05414> his colour <05869> in the cup <03599>, [when] it moveth <01980> itself aright <04339>. {32} At the last <0319> it biteth <05391> like a serpent <05175>, and stingeth <06567> like an adder <06848>.
NRSV - 19 Hear, my child, and be wise, and direct your mind in the way.
31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. 32 At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder.
TEV - "...15..." - 19 Listen, my son, be wise and give serious thought to the way you live. 20 Don't associate with people who drink too much wine or stuff themselves with food. 21 Drunkards and gluttons will be reduced to poverty. If all you do is eat and sleep, you will soon be wearing rags.
"...18..." - 29...30 Show me someone who drinks too much, who has to try out fancy drinks, and I will show you someone miserable and sorry for himself, always causing trouble and always complaining. His eyes are bloodshot, and he has bruises that could have been avoided. 31 Don't let wine tempt you, even though it is rich red, and it sparkles in the cup, and it goes down smoothly. 32 The next morning you will feel as if you had been bitten by a poisonous snake. 33 Weird sights will appear before your eyes, and you will not be able to think or speak clearly. 34 You will feel as if you were out on the ocean, seasick, swinging high up in the rigging of a tossing ship. 35 "I must have been hit," you will say; "I must have been beaten up, but I don't remember it. Why can't I wake up? I need another drink."
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Wine <03196> [is] a mocker <03887>, strong drink <07941> [is] raging <01993>: and whosoever <03605> is deceived <07686> thereby is not wise <02449>.
NRSV - 1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
TEV - "Solomon's Proverbs" - 1 Drinking too much makes you loud and foolish. It's stupid to get drunk. 2 Fear an angry king as you would a growling lion; making him angry is suicide. 3 Any fool can start arguments; the honorable thing is to stay out of them. 4 A farmer too lazy to plow his fields at the right time will have nothing to harvest. 5 A person's thoughts are like water in a deep well, but someone with insight can draw them out. 6 Everyone talks about how loyal and faithful he is, but just try to find someone who really is! 7 Children are fortunate if they have a father who is honest and does what is right.
KJV w/Strong# - {12} Let not sin <266> therefore <3767> reign <936> in your <5216> mortal <2349> body <4983>, that ye should obey <5219> it in the lusts <1939> thereof <846>. {13} Neither <3366> yield <3936> ye your <5216> members <3196> [as] instruments <3696> of unrighteousness <93> unto sin <266>: but yield <3936> yourselves <1438> unto God <2316>, as those that are alive <2198> from the dead <3498>, and your <5216> members <3196> [as] instruments <3696> of righteousness <1343> unto God <2316>. {14} For sin <266> shall not have dominion <2961> over you: for ye are not under <5259> the law <3551>, but under <5259> grace <5485>.
NRSV - 12 Therefore, do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. 13 No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
TEV - "Dead to Sin but Alive in Union with Christ" - 12 Sin must no longer rule in your mortal bodies, so that you obey the desires of your natural self. 13 Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes. 14 Sin must not be your master; for you do not live under law but under God's grace.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Unto thee, O LORD <03068>, do I lift <05375> up my soul <05315>. {2} O my God <0430>, I trust <0982> in thee: let me not be ashamed <0954>, let not mine enemies <0341> triumph <05970> over me.
NRSV - 1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, in you I trust; do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.
TEV - "A Prayer for Guidance and Protection" - 1 To you, O LORD, I offer my prayer; 2 in you, my God, I trust. Save me from the shame of defeat; don't let my enemies gloat over me! 3 Defeat does not come to those who trust in you, but to those who are quick to rebel against you.
KJV w/Strong# - {7} How <04100> excellent <03368> [is] thy lovingkindness <02617>, O God <0430>! therefore the children <01121> of men <0120> put their trust <02620> under the shadow <06738> of thy wings <03671>. {8} They shall be abundantly <07301> satisfied <07301> with the fatness <01880> of thy house <01004>; and thou shalt make them drink <08248> of the river <05158> of thy pleasures <05730>.
NRSV - 7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
TEV - "The Goodness of God" - 7 How precious, O God, is your constant love! We find protection under the shadow of your wings. 8 We feast on the abundant food you provide; you let us drink from the river of your goodness. 9 You are the source of all life, and because of your light we see the light. 10 Continue to love those who know you and to do good to those who are righteous. 11 Do not let proud men attack me or wicked men make me run away.
<B15> Psalm 42
KJV w/Strong# - {11} Why <04100> art thou cast <07817> down <07817>, O my soul <05315>? and why <04100> art thou disquieted <01993> within <05921> me? hope <03176> thou in God <0430>: for I shall yet <05750> praise <03034> him, [who is] the health <03444> of my countenance <06440>, and my God <0430>.
DHH - 11 ¿Por qué voy a desanimarme? ¿Por qué voy a estar preocupado? Mi esperanza he puesto en Dios, a quien todavía seguiré alabando. ¡Él es mi Dios y Salvador!
NRSV - 11 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.
TEV - "The Prayer of a Man in Exile" - 9 To God, my defender, I say, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go on suffering from the cruelty of my enemies?" 10 I am crushed by their insults, as they keep on asking me, "Where is your God?" 11 Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my savior and my God.
KJV w/Strong# - {25} ...Take no <3361> thought <3309> for your <5216> life <5590>, what <5101> ye shall eat <5315>, or what <5101> ye shall drink <4095>; nor <3366> yet for your <5216> body <4983>, what <5101> ye shall put <1746> on <1746>. Is not the life <5590> more <4119> than meat <5160>, and the body <4983> than raiment <1742>? {26} Behold <1689> the fowls <4071> of the air <3772>: for they sow <4687> not, neither <3761> do they reap <2325>, nor <3761> gather <4863> into <1519> barns <596>; yet your <5216> heavenly <3770> Father <3962> feedeth <5142> them. Are ye not much <3123> better <1308> than they?
{31} ...take no <3361> thought <3309>, saying <3004>, What <5101> shall we eat <5315>? or <2228>, What <5101> shall we drink <4095>? or <2228>, Wherewithal <5101> shall we be clothed <4016>? {32} (For after <1934> all <537> these <5023> things do the Gentiles <1484> seek <1934>: for your <5216> heavenly <3770> Father <3962> knoweth <1492> that ye have need <5535> of all <3956> these <5130> things. {33} But seek <2212> ye first <4412> the kingdom <932> of God <2316>, and his righteousness <1343>; and all <3956> these <5023> things shall be added <4369> unto you.
NRSV - 25 "...do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
31 Therefore do not worry, saying, "What will we eat?' or "What will we drink?' or "What will we wear?' 32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
TEV - "God and Possessions" - 24 "No one can be a slave of two masters; he will hate one and love the other; he will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. 25 "This is why I tell you: do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes for your body. After all, isn't life worth more than food? And isn't the body worth more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren't you worth much more than birds? 27 Can any of you live a bit longer by worrying about it?
31 "So do not start worrying: "Where will my food come from? or my drink? or my clothes?' 32 (These are the things the pagans are always concerned about.) Your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. 33 Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things. 34 So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.
KJV w/Strong# - {19} ...my God <2316> shall supply <4137> all <3956> your <5216> need <5532> according <2596> to his riches <4149> in glory <1391> by Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>.
NRSV - 19 ...my God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
TEV - "Thanks for the Gift" - 14 But it was very good of you to help me in my troubles. 15 You Philippians know very well that when I left Macedonia in the early days of preaching the Good News, you were the only church to help me; you were the only ones who shared my profits and losses. 16 More than once when I needed help in Thessalonica, you sent it to me. 17 It is not that I just want to receive gifts; rather, I want to see profit added to your account. 18 Here, then, is my receipt for everything you have given me -- and it has been more than enough! I have all I need now that Epaphroditus has brought me all your gifts. They are like a sweet-smelling offering to God, a sacrifice which is acceptable and pleasing to him. 19 And with all his abundant wealth through Christ Jesus, my God will supply all your needs.
<B18> 1 Corinthians 6
KJV w/Strong# - {19} ...know <1492> ye not that your <1438> body <4983> is the temple <3485> of the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> [which is] in you, which <3739> ye have <2192> of God <2316>, and ye are not your <5216> own <1438>? {20} For ye are bought <59> with a price <5092>: therefore <1211> glorify <1392> God <2316> in your <5216> body <4983>, and in your <5216> spirit <4151>, which <3748> are God's <2316>.
NRSV - 19 ...do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.
TEV - "Use Your Bodies for God's Glory" - 18 Avoid immorality. Any other sin a man commits does not affect his body; but the man who is guilty of sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God; 20 he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God's glory.
KJV w/Strong# - {6} As ye have therefore <3767> received <3880> Christ <5547> Jesus <2424> the Lord <2962>, [so] walk <4043> ye in him: {7} Rooted <4492> and built <2026> up in him, and stablished <950> in the faith <4102>, as ye have been taught <1321>, abounding <4052> therein <846> with thanksgiving <2169>.
{9} For in him dwelleth <2730> all <3956> the fulness <4138> of the Godhead <2320> bodily <4985>. {10} And ye are complete <4137> in him, which <3739> is the head <2776> of all <3956> principality <746> and power <1849>:
DHH - 6Por eso, habiendo recibido a Jesucristo como su Señor, deben comportarse como quienes pertenecen a Cristo, 7con profundas raíces en él, firmemente basados en él por la fe, como se les enseñó, y dando siempre gracias a Dios.
9Porque toda la plenitud de Dios se encuentra visiblemente en Cristo, 10y en él Dios los hace experimentar todo su poder, pues Cristo es cabeza de todos los seres espirituales que tienen poder y autoridad.
NRSV - 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have come to fullness in him, who is the head of every ruler and authority.
TEV - "Fullness of Life in Christ" - 6 Since you have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord, live in union with him. 7 Keep your roots deep in him, build your lives on him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving. 8 See to it, then, that no one enslaves you by means of the worthless deceit of human wisdom, which comes from the teachings handed down by men and from the ruling spirits of the universe, and not from Christ. 9 For the full content of divine nature lives in Christ, in his humanity, 10 and you have been given full life in union with him. He is supreme over every spiritual ruler and authority.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} For we know <1492> that if <1437> our earthly <1919> house <3614> of [this] tabernacle <4636> were dissolved <2647>, we have <2192> a building <3619> of God <2316>, an house <3614> not made <886> with hands <886>, eternal <166> in the heavens <3772>. {2} For in this <5129> we groan <4727>, earnestly <1971> desiring <1971> to be clothed <1902> upon with our house <3613> which <3588> is from heaven <3772>: {3} If <1489> so be that being clothed <1746> we shall not be found <2147> naked <1131>. {4} For we that are in [this] tabernacle <4636> do groan <4727>, being burdened <916>: not for that we would <2309> be unclothed <1562>, but clothed <1902> upon, that mortality <2349> might be swallowed <2666> up of life <2222>.
NRSV - 1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling -- 3 if indeed, when we have taken it off we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan under our burden, because we wish not to be unclothed but to be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
TEV - "Living by Faith" - 1 For we know that when this tent we live in -- our body here on earth -- is torn down, God will have a house in heaven for us to live in, a home he himself has made, which will last forever. 2 And now we sigh, so great is our desire that our home which comes from heaven should be put on over us; 3 by being clothed with it we shall not be without a body. 4 While we live in this earthly tent, we groan with a feeling of oppression; it is not that we want to get rid of our earthly body, but that we want to have the heavenly one put on over us, so that what is mortal will be transformed by life. 5 God is the one who has prepared us for this change, and he gave us his Spirit as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us.
KJV w/Strong# - {14} Now <1161> thanks <5485> [be] unto God <2316>, which always <3842> causeth <2358> us to triumph <2358> in Christ <5547>, and maketh <5319> manifest <5319> the savour <3744> of his knowledge <1108> by us in every <3956> place <5117>.
NRSV - 14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing him.
TEV - "Victory through Christ" - 14 But thanks be to God! For in union with Christ we are always led by God as prisoners in Christ's victory procession. God uses us to make the knowledge about Christ spread everywhere like a sweet fragrance. 15 For we are like a sweet-smelling incense offered by Christ to God, which spreads among those who are being saved and those who are being lost. 16 For those who are being lost, it is a deadly stench that kills; but for those who are being saved, it is a fragrance that brings life. Who, then, is capable for such a task? 17 We are not like so many others, who handle God's message as if it were cheap merchandise; but because God has sent us, we speak with sincerity in his presence, as servants of Christ.
