KJV w/Strong# - {18} ...we all <3956>, with open <343> face <4383> beholding <2734> as in a glass <2734> the glory <1391> of the Lord <2962>, are changed <3339> into the same <846> image <1504> from glory <1391> to glory <1391>, [even] as <2509> by the Spirit <4151> of the Lord <2962>.
NRSV - 18 ...all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.
TEV - "Servants of the New Covenant" - 16 But it can be removed, as the scripture says about Moses: "His veil was removed when he turned to the Lord." 17 Now, "the Lord" in this passage is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is present, there is freedom. 18 All of us, then, reflect the glory of the Lord with uncovered faces; and that same glory, coming from the Lord, who is the Spirit, transforms us into his likeness in an ever greater degree of glory.
KJV w/Strong# - {2} And be not conformed <4964> to this <5129> world <165>: but be ye transformed <3339> by the renewing <342> of your <5216> mind <3563>, that ye may prove <1381> what <5101> [is] that good <18>, and acceptable <2101>, and perfect <5046>, will <2307> of God <2316>.
NRSV - 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God -- what is good and acceptable and perfect.
TEV - "Life in God's Service" - 1 So then, my brothers, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer. 2 Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God -- what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.
KJV w/Strong# - {5} For they that are after <2596> the flesh <4561> do mind <5426> the things of the flesh <4561>; but they that are after <2596> the Spirit <4151> the things of the Spirit <4151>. {6} For to be carnally <4561> minded <5427> [is] death <2288>; but to be spiritually <4151> minded <5427> [is] life <2222> and peace <1515>.
{8} So then <1161> they that are in the flesh <4561> cannot <1410> please <700> God <2316>. {9} But ye are not in the flesh <4561>, but in the Spirit <4151>, if <1512> so be that the Spirit <4151> of God <2316> dwell <3611> in you...
{12} Therefore <3767>, brethren <80>, we are debtors <3781>, not to the flesh <4561>, to live <2198> after <2596> the flesh <4561>. {13} For if <1437> ye live <2198> after <2596> the flesh <4561>, ye shall die <599>: but if <1487> ye through the Spirit <4151> do mortify <2289> the deeds <4234> of the body <4983>, ye shall live <2198>.
{28} And we know <1492> that all <3956> things work <4903> together <4903> for good <18> to them that love <25> God <2316>, to them who are the called <2822> according <2596> to [his] purpose <4286>. {29} For whom <3739> he did foreknow <4267>, he also <2532> did predestinate <4309> [to be] conformed <4832> to the image <1504> of his Son <5207>, that he might be the firstborn <4416> among <1722> many <4183> brethren <80>.
NRSV - 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you...
12 So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh -- 13 for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn within a large family.
TEV - "The Conflict in Man" - 5 Those who live as their human nature tells them to, have their minds controlled by what human nature wants. Those who live as the Spirit tells them to, have their minds controlled by what the Spirit wants. 6 To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace. 7 And so a person becomes an enemy of God when he is controlled by his human nature; for he does not obey God's law, and in fact he cannot obey it. 8 Those who obey their human nature cannot please God. 9 But you do not live as your human nature tells you to; instead, you live as the Spirit tells you to -- if, in fact, God's Spirit lives in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ lives in you, the Spirit is life for you because you have been put right with God, even though your bodies are going to die because of sin. 11 If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you. 12 So then, my brothers, we have an obligation, but it is not to live as our human nature wants us to. 13 For if you live according to your human nature, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful actions, you will live. 14 Those who are led by God's Spirit are God's sons. 15 For the Spirit that God has given you does not make you slaves and cause you to be afraid; instead, the Spirit makes you God's children, and by the Spirit's power we cry out to God, "Father! my Father!" 16 God's Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God's children. 17 Since we are his children, we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him; for if we share Christ's suffering, we will also share his glory.
"The Future Glory" - 28 We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. 29 Those whom God had already chosen he also set apart to become like his Son, so that the Son would be the first among many brothers. 30 And so those whom God set apart, he called; and those he called, he put right with himself, and he shared his glory with them.
<B1> Psalm 90
KJV w/Strong# - Lord <0136>, thou hast been <01961> our dwelling <04583> place in all generations <01755>. {2} Before <02962> the mountains <02022> were brought <03205> forth <03205>, or ever thou hadst formed <02342> the earth <0776> and the world <08398>, even from everlasting <05769> to everlasting <05769>, thou [art] God <0410>.
NRSV - 1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
TEV - "Of God and Man" - 1 O Lord, you have always been our home. 2 Before you created the hills or brought the world into being, you were eternally God, and will be God forever.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} I will sing <07891> of the mercies <02617> of the LORD <03068> for ever <05769>: with my mouth <06310> will I make known <03045> thy faithfulness <0530> to all generations <01755>.
{15} Blessed <0835> [is] the people <05971> that know <03045> the joyful <08643> sound <08643>: they shall walk <01980>, O LORD <03068>, in the light <0216> of thy countenance <06440>. {16} In thy name <08034> shall they rejoice <01523> all <03605> the day <03117>: and in thy righteousness <06666> shall they be exalted <07311>.
NRSV - 1 I will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
15 Happy are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your countenance;
TEV - "A Hymn in Time of National Trouble" - 1 O LORD, I will always sing of your constant love; I will proclaim your faithfulness forever. 2 I know that your love will last for all time, that your faithfulness is as permanent as the sky. 3 You said, "I have made a covenant with the man I chose; I have promised my servant David, 4 "A descendant of yours will always be king; I will preserve your dynasty forever."
15 How happy are the people who worship you with songs, who live in the light of your kindness! 16 Because of you they rejoice all day long, and they praise you for your goodness. 17 You give us great victories; in your love you make us triumphant. 18 You, O LORD, chose our protector; you, the Holy God of Israel, gave us our king.
KJV w/Strong# - {18} For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> that created <01254> the heavens <08064>; God <0430> himself <01931> that formed <03335> the earth <0776> and made <06213> it; he hath established <03559> it, he created <01254> it not in vain <08414>, he formed <03335> it to be inhabited <03427>: I [am] the LORD <03068>; and [there is] none <0369> else <05750>.
NRSV - 18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it a chaos, he formed it to be inhabited!): I am the LORD, and there is no other.
TEV - "The LORD of Creation and History" - 18 The LORD created the heavens -- he is the one who is God! He formed and made the earth -- he made it firm and lasting. He did not make it a desolate waste, but a place for people to live. It is he who says, "I am the LORD, and there is no other god. 19 I have not spoken in secret or kept my purpose hidden. I did not require the people of Israel to look for me in a desolate waste. I am the LORD, and I speak the truth; I make known what is right."
KJV w/Strong# - {16} Surely <0518> your turning <02017> of things upside down shall be esteemed <02803> as the potter's <03335> clay <02563>: for shall the work <04639> say <0559> of him that made <06213> it, He made <06213> me not? or shall the thing framed <03336> say <0559> of him that framed <03335> it, He had no <03808> understanding <0995>?
{22} Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, who <0834> redeemed <06299> Abraham <085>, concerning <0413> the house <01004> of Jacob <03290>, Jacob <03290> shall not now <06258> be ashamed <0954>, neither <03808> shall his face <06440> now <06258> wax pale <02357>. {23} But when <03588> he seeth <07200> his children <03206>, the work <04639> of mine hands <03027>, in the midst <07130> of him, they shall sanctify <06942> my name <08034>, and sanctify <06942> the Holy <06918> One of Jacob <03290>, and shall fear <06206> the God <0430> of Israel <03478>.
NRSV - 16 You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay? Shall the thing made say of its maker, "He did not make me"; or the thing formed say of the one who formed it, "He has no understanding"?
22 Therefore thus says the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: No longer shall Jacob be ashamed, no longer shall his face grow pale. 23 For when he sees his children, the work of my hands, in his midst, they will sanctify my name; they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel.
TEV - "Hope for the Future" - 15 Those who try to hide their plans from the LORD are doomed! They carry out their schemes in secret and think no one will see them or know what they are doing. 16 They turn everything upside down. Which is more important, the potter or the clay? Can something a man has made tell him, "You didn't make me"? Or can it say to him, "You don't know what you are doing"? 17 As the saying goes, before long the dense forest will become farmland, and the farmland will go back to forest.
22 So now the LORD, the God of Israel, who rescued Abraham from trouble, says, "My people, you will not be disgraced any longer, and your faces will no longer be pale with shame. 23 When you see the children that I will give you, then you will acknowledge that I am the holy God of Israel. You will honor me and stand in awe of me. 24 Foolish people will learn to understand, and those who are always grumbling will be glad to be taught."
KJV w/Strong# - {11} For I know <03045> the thoughts <04284> that I think <02803> toward <05921> you, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, thoughts <04284> of peace <07965>, and not of evil <07451>, to give <05414> you an expected <08615> end <0319>.
NRSV - 11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.
TEV - "Jeremiah's Letter to the Jews in Babylonia" - 10 "The LORD says, "When Babylonia's seventy years are over, I will show my concern for you and keep my promise to bring you back home. 11 I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. 12 Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you. 13 You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart. 14 Yes, I say, you will find me, and I will restore you to your land. I will gather you from every country and from every place to which I have scattered you, and I will bring you back to the land from which I had sent you away into exile. I, the LORD, have spoken.'
<B6> Psalm 37
KJV w/Strong# - {18} The LORD <03068> knoweth <03045> the days <03117> of the upright <08549>: and their inheritance <05159> shall be for ever <05769>.
NRSV - 18 The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their heritage will abide forever;
TEV - "The Destiny of the Wicked and of the Good" - 16 The little that a good man owns is worth more than the wealth of all the wicked, 17 because the LORD will take away the strength of the wicked, but protect those who are good. 18 The LORD takes care of those who obey him, and the land will be theirs forever. 19 They will not suffer when times are bad; they will have enough in time of famine. 20 But the wicked will die; the enemies of the LORD will vanish like wild flowers; they will disappear like smoke.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} And it came <01961> to pass, when the LORD <03068> would take <05927> up Elijah <0452> into heaven <08064> by a whirlwind <05591>, that Elijah <0452> went <03212> with Elisha <0477> from Gilgal <01537>.
{6} And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto him, Tarry <03427>, I pray <04994> thee, here <06311>; for the LORD <03068> hath sent <07971> me to Jordan <03383>. And he said <0559>, [As] the LORD <03068> liveth <02416>, and [as] thy soul <05315> liveth <02416>, I will not leave <05800> thee. And they two <08147> went <03212> on. {7} And fifty <02572> men <0376> of the sons <01121> of the prophets <05030> went <01980>, and stood <05975> to view <05048> afar <07350> off: and they two <08147> stood <05975> by Jordan <03383>. {8} And Elijah <0452> took <03947> his mantle <0155>, and wrapped <01563> [it] together, and smote <05221> the waters <04325>, and they were divided <02673> hither and thither <02008>, so that they two <08147> went <05674> over <05674> on dry <02724> ground. {9} And it came <01961> to pass, when they were gone <05674> over <05674>, that Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto Elisha <0477>, Ask <07592> what <04100> I shall do <06213> for thee, before <02962> I be taken <03947> away from thee. And Elisha <0477> said <0559>, I pray <04994> thee, let a double <08147> portion <06310> of thy spirit <07307> be upon me. {10} And he said <0559>, Thou hast asked <07592> a hard <07185> thing: [nevertheless], if <0518> thou see <07200> me [when I am] taken <03947> from thee, it shall be so <03651> unto thee; but if <0518> not, it shall not be [so]. {11} And it came <01961> to pass, as they still went <01980> on, and talked <01696>, that, behold <02009>, [there appeared] a chariot <07393> of fire <0784>, and horses <05483> of fire <0784>, and parted <06504> them both <08147> asunder <0996>; and Elijah <0452> went <05927> up by a whirlwind <05591> into heaven <08064>. {12} And Elisha <0477> saw <07200> [it], and he cried <06817>, My father <01>, my father <01>, the chariot <07393> of Israel <03478>, and the horsemen <06571> thereof. And he saw <07200> him no <03808> more <05750>:...
NRSV - 1 Now when the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal.
6 Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here; for the LORD has sent me to the Jordan." But he said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So the two of them went on. 7 Fifty men of the company of prophets also went, and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. 8 Then Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up, and struck the water; the water was parted to the one side and to the other, until the two of them crossed on dry ground. 9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me what I may do for you, before I am taken from you." Elisha said, "Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit." 10 He responded, "You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be granted you; if not, it will not." 11 As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. 12 Elisha kept watching and crying out, "Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" ...he could no longer see him,...
TEV - "Elijah Is Taken Up to Heaven" - 1 The time came for the LORD to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elijah and Elisha set out from Gilgal, 2 and on the way Elijah said to Elisha, "Now stay here; the LORD has ordered me to go to Bethel." But Elisha answered, "I swear by my loyalty to the living LORD and to you that I will not leave you." So they went on to Bethel. 3 A group of prophets who lived there went to Elisha and asked him, "Do you know that the LORD is going to take your master away from you today?" "Yes, I know," Elisha answered. "But let's not talk about it." 6 Then Elijah said to Elisha, "Now stay here; the LORD has ordered me to go to the Jordan River." But Elisha answered, "I swear by my loyalty to the living LORD and to you that I will not leave you." So they went on, 7 and fifty of the prophets followed them to the Jordan. Elijah and Elisha stopped by the river, and the fifty prophets stood a short distance away. 8 Then Elijah took off his cloak, rolled it up, and struck the water with it; the water divided, and he and Elisha crossed to the other side on dry ground. 9 There, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me what you want me to do for you before I am taken away." "Let me receive the share of your power that will make me your successor," Elisha answered. 10 "That is a difficult request to grant," Elijah replied. "But you will receive it if you see me as I am being taken away from you; if you don't see me, you won't receive it." 11 They kept talking as they walked on; then suddenly a chariot of fire pulled by horses of fire came between them, and Elijah was taken up to heaven by a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw it and cried out to Elijah, "My father, my father! Mighty defender of Israel! You are gone!" And he never saw Elijah again. In grief Elisha tore his cloak in two. 13 Then he picked up Elijah's cloak that had fallen from him, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 He struck the water with Elijah's cloak and said, "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" Then he struck the water again, and it divided, and he walked over to the other side.
<B8> 1 Corinthians 15
KJV w/Strong# - {50} Now <1161> this <5124> I say <5346>, brethren <80>, that flesh <4561> and blood <129> cannot <1410> inherit <2816> the kingdom <932> of God <2316>; neither <3761> doth corruption <5356> inherit <2816> incorruption <861>.
{53} For this <5124> corruptible <5349> must <1163> put <1746> on <1746> incorruption <861>, and this <5124> mortal <2349> [must] put <1746> on <1746> immortality <110>.
{55} O death <2288>, where <4226> [is] thy sting <2759>? O grave <86>, where <4226> [is] thy victory <3534>? {56} The sting <2759> of death <2288> [is] sin <266>; and the strength <1411> of sin <266> [is] the law <3551>. {57} But thanks <5485> [be] to God <2316>, which <3588> giveth <1325> us the victory <3534> through <1223> our Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>.
NRSV - 50 What I am saying, brothers and sisters, is this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
53 For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
TEV - "The Resurrection Body" - 50 What I mean, brothers, is that what is made of flesh and blood cannot share in God's Kingdom, and what is mortal cannot possess immortality. 51...52 Listen to this secret truth: we shall not all die, but when the last trumpet sounds, we shall all be changed in an instant, as quickly as the blinking of an eye. For when the trumpet sounds, the dead will be raised, never to die again, and we shall all be changed. 53 For what is mortal must be changed into what is immortal; what will die must be changed into what cannot die. 54 So when this takes place, and the mortal has been changed into the immortal, then the scripture will come true: "Death is destroyed; victory is complete!" 55 "Where, Death, is your victory? Where, Death, is your power to hurt?" 56 Death gets its power to hurt from sin, and sin gets its power from the Law. 57 But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! 58 So then, my dear brothers, stand firm and steady. Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless.
KJV w/Strong# - {17} This <5124> I say <3004> therefore <3767>, and testify <3143> in the Lord <2962>, that ye henceforth <3371> walk <4043> not <3371> as other <3062> Gentiles <1484> walk <4043>, in the vanity <3153> of their mind <3563>, {18} Having the understanding <1271> darkened <4654>, being <5607> alienated <526> from the life <2222> of God <2316> through <1223> the ignorance <52> that is in them, because <1223> of the blindness <4457> of their heart <2588>: {19} Who <3748> being past <524> feeling <524> have given <3860> themselves <1438> over <3860> unto lasciviousness <766>, to work <2039> all <3956> uncleanness <167> with greediness <4124>. {20} But ye have not so <3779> learned <3129> Christ <5547>; {21} If <1489> so <3779> be that ye have heard <191> him, and have been taught <1321> by him, as the truth <225> is in Jesus <2424>: {22} That ye put <659> off <659> concerning <2596> the former <4387> conversation <391> the old <3820> man <444>, which <3588> is corrupt <5351> according <2596> to the deceitful <539> lusts <1939>; {23} And be renewed <365> in the spirit <4151> of your <5216> mind <3563>; {24} And that ye put <1746> on <1746> the new <2537> man <444>, which <3588> after <2596> God <2316> is created <2936> in righteousness <1343> and true <225> holiness <3742>.
NRSV - 17 Now this I affirm and insist on in the Lord: you must no longer live as the Gentiles live, in the futility of their minds. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart. 19 They have lost all sensitivity and have abandoned themselves to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20 That is not the way you learned Christ! 21 For surely you have heard about him and were taught in him, as truth is in Jesus. 22 You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
TEV - "The New Life in Christ" - 17 In the Lord's name, then, I warn you: do not continue to live like the heathen, whose thoughts are worthless 18 and whose minds are in the dark. They have no part in the life that God gives, for they are completely ignorant and stubborn. 19 They have lost all feeling of shame; they give themselves over to vice and do all sorts of indecent things without restraint. 20 That was not what you learned about Christ! 21 You certainly heard about him, and as his followers you were taught the truth that is in Jesus. 22 So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to -- the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires. 23 Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, 24 and you must put on the new self, which is created in God's likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy.
<B10> Luke 4
KJV w/Strong# - {14} And Jesus <2424> returned <5290> in the power <1411> of the Spirit <4151> into <1519> Galilee <1056>: and there went <1831> out a fame <5345> of him through <2596> all <3650> the region <4066> round <4066> about <4066>.
NRSV - 14 Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country.
TEV - "Jesus Begins His Work in Galilee" - 14 Then Jesus returned to Galilee, and the power of the Holy Spirit was with him. The news about him spread throughout all that territory. 15 He taught in the synagogues and was praised by everyone.
KJV w/Strong# - {12} And it came <1096> to pass, when <3588> he was in a certain <3391> city <4172>, behold <2400> a man <435> full <4134> of leprosy <3014>: who <2532> seeing <1492> Jesus <2424> fell <4098> on <1909> [his] face <4383>, and besought <1189> him, saying <3004>, Lord <2962>, if <1437> thou wilt <2309>, thou canst <1410> make <2511> me clean <2511>. {13} And he put <1614> forth <1614> [his] hand <5495>, and touched <680> him, saying <2036>, I will <2309>: be thou clean <2511>. And immediately <2112> the leprosy <3014> departed <565> from him. {14} And he charged <3853> him to tell <2036> no <3367> man <3367>: but go <565>, and shew <1166> thyself <4572> to the priest <2409>, and offer <4374> for thy cleansing <2512>, according as Moses <3475> commanded <4367>, for a testimony <3142> unto them.
{17} And it came <1096> to pass on <1722> a <3391> certain <3391> day <2250>, as he was teaching <1321>, that there were Pharisees <5330> and doctors <3547> of the law <3547> sitting <2521> by, which <3739> were come <2064> out of every <3956> town <2968> of Galilee <1056>, and Judaea <2449>, and Jerusalem <2419>: and the power <1411> of the Lord <2962> was [present] to heal <2390> them.
NRSV - 12 Once, when he was in one of the cities, there was a man covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground and begged him, "Lord, if you choose, you can make me clean." 13 Then Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, "I do choose. Be made clean." Immediately the leprosy left him. 14 And he ordered him to tell no one. "Go," he said, "and show yourself to the priest, and, as Moses commanded, make an offering for your cleansing, for a testimony to them."
17 One day, while he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting near by (they had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem); and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.
TEV - "Jesus Heals a Man" - 12 Once Jesus was in a town where there was a man who was suffering from a dreaded skin disease. When he saw Jesus, he threw himself down and begged him, "Sir, if you want to, you can make me clean!" 13 Jesus reached out and touched him. "I do want to," he answered. "Be clean!" At once the disease left the man. 14 Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go straight to the priest and let him examine you; then to prove to everyone that you are cured, offer the sacrifice as Moses ordered."
"Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man" - 17 One day when Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and teachers of the Law were sitting there who had come from every town in Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was present for Jesus to heal the sick. 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a bed, and they tried to carry him into the house and put him in front of Jesus. 19 Because of the crowd, however, they could find no way to take him in. So they carried him up on the roof, made an opening in the tiles, and let him down on his bed into the middle of the group in front of Jesus. 20 When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the man, "Your sins are forgiven, my friend."
KJV w/Strong# - {3} For what <3588> the law <3551> could <102> not do, in that it was weak <770> through <1223> the flesh <4561>, God <2316> sending <3992> his own <1438> Son <5207> in the likeness <3667> of sinful <266> flesh <4561>, and for sin <266>, condemned <2632> sin <266> in the flesh <4561>: {4} That the righteousness <1345> of the law <3551> might be fulfilled <4137> in us, who walk <4043> not after <2596> the flesh <4561>, but after <2596> the Spirit <4151>.
NRSV - 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and to deal with sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
TEV - "The Conflict in Man" - 2 For the law of the Spirit, which brings us life in union with Christ Jesus, has set me free from the law of sin and death. 3 What the Law could not do, because human nature was weak, God did. He condemned sin in human nature by sending his own Son, who came with a nature like man's sinful nature, to do away with sin. 4 God did this so that the righteous demands of the Law might be fully satisfied in us who live according to the Spirit, and not according to human nature.
<B13> Matthew 17
KJV w/Strong# - {1} And after <3326> six <1803> days <2250> Jesus <2424> taketh <3880> Peter <4074>, James <2385>, and John <2491> his brother <80>, and bringeth <399> them up into <1519> an high <5308> mountain <3735> apart <2398>, {2} And was transfigured <3339> before <1715> them: and his face <4383> did shine <2989> as the sun <2246>, and his raiment <2440> was white <3022> as the light <5457>. {3} And, behold <2400>, there appeared <3700> unto them Moses <3475> and Elias <2243> talking <4814> with him. {4} Then <1161> answered <611> Peter <4074>, and said <2036> unto Jesus <2424>, Lord <2962>, it is good <2570> for us to be here <5602>: if <1487> thou wilt <2309>, let us make <4160> here <5602> three <5140> tabernacles <4633>; one <3391> for thee, and one <3391> for Moses <3475>, and one <3391> for Elias <2243>. {5} While he yet <2089> spake <2980>, behold <2400>, a bright <5460> cloud <3507> overshadowed <1982> them: and behold <2400> a voice <5456> out of the cloud <3507>, which said <3004>, This <3778> is my beloved <27> Son <5207>, in whom <3739> I am well <2106> pleased <2106>; hear <191> ye him. {6} And when the disciples <3101> heard <191> [it], they fell <4098> on <1909> their face <4383>, and were sore <4970> afraid <5399>. {7} And Jesus <2424> came <4334> and touched <680> them, and said <2036>, Arise <1453>, and be not afraid <5399>. {8} And when they had lifted <1869> up their eyes <3788>, they saw <1492> no <3762> man <3762>, save <1508> Jesus <2424> only <3441>.
NRSV - 1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. 3 Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." 5 While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!" 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Get up and do not be afraid." 8 And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.
TEV - "The Transfiguration" - 1 Six days later Jesus took with him Peter and the brothers James and John and led them up a high mountain where they were alone. 2 As they looked on, a change came over Jesus: his face was shining like the sun, and his clothes were dazzling white. 3 Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus. 4 So Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, "Lord, how good it is that we are here! If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." 5 While he was talking, a shining cloud came over them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased -- listen to him!" 6 When the disciples heard the voice, they were so terrified that they threw themselves face downward on the ground. 7 Jesus came to them and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid!" 8 So they looked up and saw no one there but Jesus.
<B14> 2 Corinthians 4
KJV w/Strong# - {6} For God <2316>, who <3588> commanded <2036> the light <5457> to shine <2989> out of darkness <4655>, hath shined <2989> in our hearts <2588>, to [give] the light <5462> of the knowledge <1108> of the glory <1391> of God <2316> in the face <4383> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>. {7} But we have <2192> this <5126> treasure <2344> in earthen <3749> vessels <4632>, that the excellency <5236> of the power <1411> may be of God <2316>, and not of us. {8} [We are] troubled <2346> on <1722> every <3956> side, yet <235> not distressed <4729>; [we are] perplexed <639>, but not in despair <1820>; {9} Persecuted <1377>, but not forsaken <1459>; cast <2598> down <2598>, but not destroyed <622>;
{17} For our light <1645> affliction <2347>, which <3588> is but for a moment <3910>, worketh <2716> for us a far <5236> more <5236> exceeding <5236> [and] eternal <166> weight <922> of glory <1391>; {18} While we look <4648> not at <4648> the things which are seen <991>, but at <4648> the things which are not seen <991>: for the things which are seen <991> [are] temporal <4340>; but the things which are not seen <991> [are] eternal <166>.
NRSV - 6 For it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
17 For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, 18 because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.
TEV - "Spiritual Treasure in Clay Pots" - 6 The God who said, "Out of darkness the light shall shine!" is the same God who made his light shine in our hearts, to bring us the knowledge of God's glory shining in the face of Christ. 7 Yet we who have this spiritual treasure are like common clay pots, in order to show that the supreme power belongs to God, not to us. 8 We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; 9 there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed. 10 At all times we carry in our mortal bodies the death of Jesus, so that his life also may be seen in our bodies. 11 Throughout our lives we are always in danger of death for Jesus' sake, in order that his life may be seen in this mortal body of ours. 12 This means that death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
"Living by Faith" 16 For this reason we never become discouraged. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being is renewed day after day. 17 And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble. 18 For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} I therefore <3767>, the prisoner <1198> of the Lord <2962>, beseech <3870> you that ye walk <4043> worthy <516> of the vocation <2821> wherewith <3739> ye are called <2564>, {2} With all <3956> lowliness <5012> and meekness <4236>, with longsuffering <3115>, forbearing <430> one <240> another <240> in love <26>; {3} Endeavouring <4704> to keep <5083> the unity <1775> of the Spirit <4151> in the bond <4886> of peace <1515>.
{7} But unto every <1538> one <1520> of us is given <1325> grace <5485> according <2596> to the measure <3358> of the gift <1431> of Christ <5547>.
{13} Till <3360> we all <3956> come <2658> in the unity <1775> of the faith <4102>, and of the knowledge <1922> of the Son <5207> of God <2316>, unto a perfect <5046> man <435>, unto the measure <3358> of the stature <2244> of the fulness <4138> of Christ <5547>:
NRSV - 1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
7 But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ's gift.
13 until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.
TEV - "The Unity of the Body" - 1 I urge you, then -- I who am a prisoner because I serve the Lord: live a life that measures up to the standard God set when he called you. 2 Be always humble, gentle, and patient. Show your love by being tolerant with one another. 3 Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds you together. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as there is one hope to which God has called you. 5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 there is one God and Father of all mankind, who is Lord of all, works through all, and is in all. 7 Each one of us has received a special gift in proportion to what Christ has given. 8 As the scripture says, "When he went up to the very heights, he took many captives with him; he gave gifts to mankind." 9 Now, what does "he went up" mean? It means that first he came down to the lowest depths of the earth. 10 So the one who came down is the same one who went up, above and beyond the heavens, to fill the whole universe with his presence. 11 It was he who "gave gifts to mankind"; he appointed some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, others to be pastors and teachers. 12 He did this to prepare all God's people for the work of Christian service, in order to build up the body of Christ. 13 And so we shall all come together to that oneness in our faith and in our knowledge of the Son of God; we shall become mature people, reaching to the very height of Christ's full stature. 14 Then we shall no longer be children, carried by the waves and blown about by every shifting wind of the teaching of deceitful men, who lead others into error by the tricks they invent.
