<GT> Proverbs 10

KJV w/Strong# - {16} The labour <06468> of the righteous <06662> [tendeth] to life <02416>:...

NRSV - 16 The wage of the righteous leads to life,...

TEV - "Solomon's Proverbs" - 13 Intelligent people talk sense, but stupid people need to be punished. 14 The wise get all the knowledge they can, but when fools speak, trouble is not far off. 15 Wealth protects the rich; poverty destroys the poor. 16 The reward for doing good is life, but sin leads only to more sin. 17 People who listen when they are corrected will live, but those who will not admit that they are wrong are in danger. 18 A man who hides his hatred is a liar. Anyone who spreads gossip is a fool. 19 The more you talk, the more likely you are to sin. If you are wise, you will keep quiet.

<RR1> Psalm 34

KJV w/Strong# - {11} Come <03212>, ye children <01121>, hearken <08085> unto me: I will teach <03925> you the fear <03374> of the LORD <03068>. {12} What <04310> man <0376> [is he that] desireth <02655> life <02416>, [and] loveth <0157> [many] days <03117>, that he may see <07200> good <02896>?

{14} Depart <05493> from evil <07451>, and do <06213> good <02896>; seek <01245> peace <07965>, and pursue <07291> it. {15} The eyes <05869> of the LORD <03068> [are] upon the righteous <06662>, and his ears <0241> [are open] unto their cry <07775>.

NRSV - 11 Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. 12 Which of you desires life, and covets many days to enjoy good?

14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.

DHH - 11 Vengan, hijos míos, y escúchenme: voy a enseñarles a honrar al Señor. 12 ¿Quieres vivir mucho tiempo?

TEV - "In Praise of God's Goodness" - 11 Come, my young friends, and listen to me, and I will teach you to honor the LORD. 12 Would you like to enjoy life? Do you want long life and happiness? 13 Then keep from speaking evil and from telling lies. 14 Turn away from evil and do good; strive for peace with all your heart. 15 The LORD watches over the righteous and listens to their cries; 16 but he opposes those who do evil, so that when they die, they are soon forgotten. 17 The righteous call to the LORD, and he listens; he rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is near to those who are discouraged; he saves those who have lost all hope.

<RR2> Psalm 18

KJV w/Strong# - {20} The LORD <03068> rewarded <01580> me according to my righteousness <06664>; according to the cleanness <01252> of my hands <03027> hath he recompensed <07725> me. {21} For I have kept <08104> the ways <01870> of the LORD <03068>, and have not wickedly <07561> departed from my God <0430>. {22} For all <03605> his judgments <04941> [were] before <05048> me, and I did not put <05493> away <05493> his statutes <02708> from me.

{28} For thou wilt light <0215> my candle <05216>: the LORD <03068> my God <0430> will enlighten <05050> my darkness <02822>.

{32} [It is] God <0410> that girdeth <0247> me with strength <02428>, and maketh <05414> my way <01870> perfect <08549>.

NRSV - 20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he recompensed me. 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. 22 For all his ordinances were before me, and his statutes I did not put away from me.

28 It is you who light my lamp; the LORD, my God, lights up my darkness.

32 the God who girded me with strength, and made my way safe.

28 Tú, Señor, me das luz; tú, Dios mío, alumbras mi oscuridad.

32 Dios es quien me da fuerzas, quien hace intachable mi conducta,

TEV - "David's Song of Victory" - 20 The LORD rewards me because I do what is right; he blesses me because I am innocent. 21 I have obeyed the law of the LORD; I have not turned away from my God. 22 I have observed all his laws; I have not disobeyed his commands. 23 He knows that I am faultless, that I have kept myself from doing wrong. 24 And so he rewards me because I do what is right, because he knows that I am innocent. 25 O LORD, you are faithful to those who are faithful to you; completely good to those who are perfect. 26 You are pure to those who are pure, but hostile to those who are wicked. 27 You save those who are humble, but you humble those who are proud. 28 O LORD, you give me light; you dispel my darkness. 29 You give me strength to attack my enemies and power to overcome their defenses. 30 This God -- how perfect are his deeds! How dependable his words! He is like a shield for all who seek his protection. 31 The LORD alone is God; God alone is our defense. 32 He is the God who makes me strong, who makes my pathway safe. 33 He makes me sure-footed as a deer; he keeps me safe on the mountains. 34 He trains me for battle, so that I can use the strongest bow.

<B1> Zephaniah 2

KJV w/Strong# - {3} Seek <01245> ye the LORD <03068>, all <03605> ye meek <06035> of the earth <0776>, which <0834> have wrought <06466> his judgment <04941>; seek <01245> righteousness <06664>, seek <01245> meekness <06038>:...

NRSV - 3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his commands; seek righteousness, seek humility;...

TEV - "A Plea for Repentance" - 1 Shameless nation, come to your senses 2 before you are driven away like chaff blown by the wind, before the burning anger of the LORD comes upon you, before the day when he shows his fury. 3 Turn to the LORD, all you humble people of the land, who obey his commands. Do what is right, and humble yourselves before the LORD. Perhaps you will escape punishment on the day when the LORD shows his anger.

<B2> Proverbs 12

KJV w/Strong# - {28} In the way <0734> of righteousness <06666> [is] life <02416>; and [in] the pathway [thereof there is] no <0408> death <04194>.

NRSV - 28 In the path of righteousness there is life, in walking its path there is no death.

TEV - "Solomon's Proverbs" - 27 If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if you work hard, you will get a fortune. 28 Righteousness is the road to life; wickedness is the road to death.

<B3> Matthew 4

KJV w/Strong# - {23} And Jesus <2424> went <4013> about <4013> all <3650> Galilee <1056>, teaching <1321> in their synagogues <4864>, and preaching <2784> the gospel <2098> of the kingdom <932>, and healing <2323> all <3956> manner of sickness <3554> and all <3956> manner of disease <3119> among <1722> the people <2992>.

NRSV - 23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.

TEV - "Jesus Teaches, Preaches, and Heals" - 23 Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the Good News about the Kingdom, and healing people who had all kinds of disease and sickness. 24 The news about him spread through the whole country of Syria, so that people brought to him all those who were sick, suffering from all kinds of diseases and disorders: people with demons, and epileptics, and paralytics-- and Jesus healed them all. 25 Large crowds followed him from Galilee and the Ten Towns, from Jerusalem, Judea, and the land on the other side of the Jordan.

<B4> Mark 10

KJV w/Strong# - {17} And when he was gone <1607> forth <1607> into <1519> the way <3598>, there came <4370> one <1520> running <4370>, and kneeled <1120> to him, and asked <1905> him, Good <18> Master <1320>, what <5101> shall I do <4160> that I may inherit <2816> eternal <166> life <2222>? {18} And Jesus <2424> said <2036> unto him, Why <5101> callest <3004> thou me good <18>? [there is] none <3762> good <18> but one <1520>, [that is], God <2316>. {19} Thou knowest <1492> the commandments <1785>, Do not commit <3431> adultery <3431>, Do not kill <5407>, Do not steal <2813>, Do not bear <5576> false <5576> witness <5576>, Defraud <650> not, Honour <5091> thy father <3962> and mother <3384>. {20} And he answered <611> and said <2036> unto him, Master <1320>, all <3956> these <5023> have I observed <5442> from my youth <3503>. {21} Then <1161> Jesus <2424> beholding <1689> him loved <25> him, and said <2036> unto him, One <1520> thing thou lackest <5302>: go <5217> thy way, sell <4453> whatsoever <3745> thou hast <2192>, and give <1325> to the poor <4434>, and thou shalt have <2192> treasure <2344> in heaven <3772>: and come <1204>, take <142> up the cross <4716>, and follow <190> me.

NRSV - 17 As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 18 Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. 19 You know the commandments: "You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother."' 20 He said to him, "Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth." 21 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."

TEV - "The Rich Man" - 17 As Jesus was starting on his way again, a man ran up, knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to receive eternal life?" 18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked him. "No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: "Do not commit murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not accuse anyone falsely; do not cheat; respect your father and your mother." 20 "Teacher," the man said, "ever since I was young, I have obeyed all these commandments." 21 Jesus looked straight at him with love and said, "You need only one thing. Go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come and follow me." 22 When the man heard this, gloom spread over his face, and he went away sad, because he was very rich. 23 Jesus looked around at his disciples and said to them, "How hard it will be for rich people to enter the Kingdom of God!"

KJV w/Strong# - {12} Sow <02232> to yourselves in righteousness <06666>, reap <07114> in mercy <02617>; break <05214> up your fallow <05215> ground: for [it is] time <06256> to seek <01875> the LORD <03068>, till <05704> he come <0935> and rain <03384> righteousness <06664> upon you.

NRSV - 12 Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.

TEV - "The LORD Pronounces Judgment on Israel" - 11 "Israel was once like a well-trained young cow, ready and willing to thresh grain. But I decided to put a yoke on her beautiful neck and to harness her for harder work. I made Judah pull the plow and Israel pull the harrow. 12 I said, "Plow new ground for yourselves, plant righteousness, and reap the blessings that your devotion to me will produce. It is time for you to turn to me, your LORD, and I will come and pour out blessings upon you.'

<B6> Proverbs 28

KJV w/Strong# - {13} He that covereth <03680> his sins <06588> shall not prosper <06743>: but whoso confesseth <03034> and forsaketh <05800> [them] shall have mercy <07355>.

NRSV - 13 No one who conceals transgressions will prosper, but one who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

TEV - "More of Solomon's Proverbs" - 12 When good men come to power, everybody celebrates, but when bad men rule, people stay in hiding. 13 You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you. 14 Always obey the LORD and you will be happy. If you are stubborn, you will be ruined. 15 Poor people are helpless against a wicked ruler; he is as dangerous as a growling lion or a prowling bear. 16 A ruler without good sense will be a cruel tyrant. One who hates dishonesty will rule a long time. 17 A man guilty of murder is digging his own grave as fast as he can. Don't try to stop him.

<B7> James 1

KJV w/Strong# - {12} Blessed <3107> [is] the man <435> that endureth <5278> temptation <3986>: for when he is tried <1384>, he shall receive <2983> the crown <4735> of life <2222>, which <3739> the Lord <2962> hath promised <1861> to them that love <25> him. {13} Let no <3367> man <3367> say <3004> when he is tempted <3985>, I am tempted <3985> of God <2316>: for God <2316> cannot <551> be tempted <551> with evil <2556>, neither <3762> tempteth <3985> he any <3762> man <3762>: {14} But every <1538> man is tempted <3985>, when he is drawn <1828> away of his own <2398> lust <1939>, and enticed <1185>. {15} Then <1534> when lust <1939> hath conceived <4815>, it bringeth <616> forth <616> sin <266>: and sin <266>, when it is finished <658>, bringeth <5088> forth <5088> death <2288>.

NRSV - 12 Blessed is anyone who endures temptation. Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. 13 No one, when tempted, should say, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil and he himself tempts no one. 14 But one is tempted by one's own desire, being lured and enticed by it; 15 then, when that desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and that sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death.

TEV - "Testing and Tempting" - 12 Happy is the person who remains faithful under trials, because when he succeeds in passing such a test, he will receive as his reward the life which God has promised to those who love him. 13 If a person is tempted by such trials, he must not say, "This temptation comes from God." For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But a person is tempted when he is drawn away and trapped by his own evil desire. 15 Then his evil desire conceives and gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

<B8> 1 John 2

KJV w/Strong# - {16} For all <3956> that [is] in the world <2889>, the lust <1939> of the flesh <4561>, and the lust <1939> of the eyes <3788>, and the pride <212> of life <979>, is not of the Father <3962>, but is of the world <2889>. {17} And the world <2889> passeth <3855> away, and the lust <1939> thereof <846>: but he that doeth <4160> the will <2307> of God <2316> abideth <3306> for ever <165>.

NRSV - 16 for all that is in the world -- the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches -- comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 And the world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live forever.

TEV - "The New Command" - 14 I write to you, my children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who has existed from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong; the word of God lives in you, and you have defeated the Evil One. 15 Do not love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you do not love the Father. 16 Everything that belongs to the world -- what the sinful self desires, what people see and want, and everything in this world that people are so proud of -- none of this comes from the Father; it all comes from the world. 17 The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but he who does the will of God lives forever.

<B9> Joel 3

KJV w/Strong# - {14} Multitudes <01995>, multitudes <01995> in the valley <06010> of decision <02742>: for the day <03117> of the LORD <03068> [is] near <07138> in the valley <06010> of decision <02742>.

NRSV - 14 Multitudes, multitudes, in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

TEV - "God Will Judge the Nations" - 12 "The nations must get ready and come to the Valley of Judgment. There I, the LORD, will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. 13 They are very wicked; cut them down like grain at harvest time; crush them as grapes are crushed in a full wine press until the wine runs over." 14 Thousands and thousands are in the Valley of Judgment. It is there that the day of the LORD will soon come. 15 The sun and the moon grow dark, and the stars no longer shine.

<B10> Psalm 13

KJV w/Strong# - {3} Consider <05027> [and] hear <06030> me, O LORD <03068> my God <0430>: lighten <0215> mine eyes <05869>, lest <06435> I sleep <03462> the [sleep <03462> of] death <04194>;

NRSV - 3 Consider and answer me, O LORD my God! Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,

TEV - "A Prayer for Help" - 3 Look at me, O LORD my God, and answer me. Restore my strength; don't let me die. 4 Don't let my enemies say, "We have defeated him." Don't let them gloat over my downfall. 5 I rely on your constant love; I will be glad, because you will rescue me. 6 I will sing to you, O LORD, because you have been good to me.

<B11> Psalm 118

KJV w/Strong# - {14} The LORD <03050> [is] my strength <05797> and song <02176>, and is become <01961> my salvation <03444>. {15} The voice <06963> of rejoicing <07440> and salvation <03444> [is] in the tabernacles <0168> of the righteous <06662>: the right <03225> hand <03225> of the LORD <03068> doeth <06213> valiantly <02428>.

{17} I shall not die <04191>, but live <02421>, and declare <05608> the works <04639> of the LORD <03050>.

NRSV - 14 The LORD is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation. 15 There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous: "The right hand of the LORD does valiantly;

17 I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the LORD.

TEV - "A Prayer of Thanks for Victory" - 10 Many enemies were around me; but I destroyed them by the power of the LORD! 11 They were around me on every side; but I destroyed them by the power of the LORD! 12 They swarmed around me like bees, but they burned out as quickly as a brush fire; by the power of the LORD I destroyed them. 13 I was fiercely attacked and was being defeated, but the LORD helped me. 14 The LORD makes me powerful and strong; he has saved me. 15 Listen to the glad shouts of victory in the tents of God's people: "The LORD's mighty power has done it! 16 His power has brought us victory -- his mighty power in battle!" 17 I will not die; instead, I will live and proclaim what the LORD has done. 18 He has punished me severely, but he has not let me die. 19 Open to me the gates of the Temple; I will go in and give thanks to the LORD! 20 This is the gate of the LORD; only the righteous can come in. 21 I praise you, LORD, because you heard me, because you have given me victory.

<B12> Romans 6

KJV w/Strong# - {16} Know <1492> ye not, that to whom <3739> ye yield <3936> yourselves <1438> servants <1401> to obey <5218>, his servants <1401> ye are to whom <3739> ye obey <5219>; whether <2273> of sin <266> unto death <2288>, or <2228> of obedience <5218> unto righteousness <1343>? {17} But God <2316> be thanked <5485>, that ye were the servants <1401> of sin <266>, but ye have obeyed <5219> from the heart <2588> that form <5179> of doctrine <1322> which <3739> was delivered <3860> you. {18} Being then <1161> made <1659> free <1659> from sin <266>, ye became <1402> the servants <1402> of righteousness <1343>.

{22} But now <3570> being made <1659> free <1659> from sin <266>, and become <1402> servants <1402> to God <2316>, ye have <2192> your <5216> fruit <2590> unto holiness <38>, and the end <5056> everlasting <166> life <2222>. {23} For the wages <3800> of sin <266> [is] death <2288>; but the gift <5486> of God <2316> [is] eternal <166> life <2222> through <1722> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> our Lord <2962>.

NRSV - 16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, 18 and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

22 But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

TEV - "Slaves of Righteousness" - 15 What, then? Shall we sin, because we are not under law but under God's grace? By no means! 16 Surely you know that when you surrender yourselves as slaves to obey someone, you are in fact the slaves of the master you obey -- either of sin, which results in death, or of obedience, which results in being put right with God. 17 But thanks be to God! For though at one time you were slaves to sin, you have obeyed with all your heart the truths found in the teaching you received. 18 You were set free from sin and became the slaves of righteousness. 19 (I use everyday language because of the weakness of your natural selves.) At one time you surrendered yourselves entirely as slaves to impurity and wickedness for wicked purposes. In the same way you must now surrender yourselves entirely as slaves of righteousness for holy purposes. 20 When you were the slaves of sin, you were free from righteousness. 21 What did you gain from doing the things that you are now ashamed of? The result of those things is death! 22 But now you have been set free from sin and are the slaves of God. Your gain is a life fully dedicated to him, and the result is eternal life. 23 For sin pays its wage -- death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.

<B13> Isaiah 9

KJV w/Strong# - {2} The people <05971> that walked <01980> in darkness <02822> have seen <07200> a great <01419> light <0216>: they that dwell <03427> in the land <0776> of the shadow <06757> of death <06757>, upon them hath the light <0216> shined <05050>.

NRSV - 2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness -- on them light has shined.

TEV - "The Future King" - 2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. They lived in a land of shadows, but now light is shining on them. 3 You have given them great joy, Lord; you have made them happy. They rejoice in what you have done, as people rejoice when they harvest grain or when they divide captured wealth.

<B14> Matthew 14

KJV w/Strong# - {14} And Jesus <2424> went <1831> forth <1831>, and saw <1492> a great <4183> multitude <3793>, and was moved <4697> with compassion <4697> toward <1909> them, and he healed <2323> their sick <732>.

NRSV - 14 When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick.

TEV - "Jesus Feeds Five Thousand Men" - 13 When Jesus heard the news about John, he left there in a boat and went to a lonely place by himself. The people heard about it, and so they left their towns and followed him by land. 14 Jesus got out of the boat, and when he saw the large crowd, his heart was filled with pity for them, and he healed their sick. 15 That evening his disciples came to him and said, "It is already very late, and this is a lonely place. Send the people away and let them go to the villages to buy food for themselves." 16 "They don't have to leave," answered Jesus. "You yourselves give them something to eat!" 17 "All we have here are five loaves and two fish," they replied.

<B15> Mark 9

KJV w/Strong# - {17} And one <1520> of the multitude <3793> answered <611> and said <2036>, Master <1320>, I have brought <5342> unto thee my son <5207>, which hath <2192> a dumb <216> spirit <4151>; {18} And wheresoever <302> he taketh <2638> him, he teareth <4486> him: and he foameth <875>, and gnasheth <5149> with his teeth <3599>, and pineth <3583> away: and I spake <2036> to thy disciples <3101> that they should cast <1544> him out; and they could <2480> not. {19} He answereth <611> him, and saith <3004>, O faithless <571> generation <1074>, how <2193> long <2193> shall I be with you? how <2193> long <2193> shall I suffer <430> you? bring <5342> him unto me.

{21} And he asked <1905> his father <3962>, How <4214> long <4214> is it ago since <5613> this <5124> came <1096> unto him? And he said <2036>, Of a child <3812>. {22} And ofttimes <4178> it hath cast <906> him into <1519> the fire <4442>, and into <1519> the waters <5204>, to destroy <622> him: but if thou canst <1410> do any <1536> thing, have compassion <4697> on <1909> us, and help <997> us. {23} Jesus <2424> said <2036> unto him, If <1487> thou canst <1410> believe <4100>, all <3956> things [are] possible <1415> to him that believeth <4100>. {24} And straightway <2112> the father <3962> of the child <3813> cried <2896> out, and said <3004> with tears <1144>, Lord <2962>, I believe <4100>; help <997> thou mine <3450> unbelief <570>. {25} When Jesus <2424> saw <1492> that the people <3793> came <1998> running <1998> together <1998>, he rebuked <2008> the foul <169> spirit <4151>, saying <3004> unto him, [Thou] dumb <216> and deaf <2974> spirit <4151>, I charge <2004> thee, come <1831> out of him, and enter <1525> no <3371> more <3371> into <1519> him. {26} And [the spirit] cried <2896>, and rent <4682> him sore <4183>, and came <1831> out of him: and he was as one dead <3498>; insomuch <5620> that many <4183> said <3004>, He is dead <599>. {27} But Jesus <2424> took <2902> him by the hand <5495>, and lifted <1453> him up; and he arose <450>. {28} And when he was come <1525> into <1519> the house <3624>, his disciples <3101> asked <1905> him privately <2398>, Why <3754> could <1410> not we cast <1544> him out? {29} And he said <2036> unto them, This <5124> kind <1085> can <1410> come <1831> forth <1831> by nothing <3762>, but by prayer <4335> and fasting <3521>.

NRSV - 17 Someone from the crowd answered him, "Teacher, I brought you my son; he has a spirit that makes him unable to speak; 18 and whenever it seizes him, it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, but they could not do so." 19 He answered them, "You faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me."

21 Jesus asked the father, "How long has this been happening to him?" And he said, "From childhood. 22 It has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us." 23 Jesus said to him, "If you are able! -- All things can be done for the one who believes." 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out, "I believe; help my unbelief!" 25 When Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You spirit that keeps this boy from speaking and hearing, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!" 26 After crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, "He is dead." 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he was able to stand. 28 When he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?" 29 He said to them, "This kind can come out only through prayer."

TEV - "Jesus Heals a Boy with an Evil Spirit" - 14 When they joined the rest of the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and some teachers of the Law arguing with them. 15 When the people saw Jesus, they were greatly surprised, and ran to him and greeted him. 16 Jesus asked his disciples, "What are you arguing with them about?" 17 A man in the crowd answered, "Teacher, I brought my son to you, because he has an evil spirit in him and cannot talk. 18 Whenever the spirit attacks him, it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth, grits his teeth, and becomes stiff all over. I asked your disciples to drive the spirit out, but they could not." 19 Jesus said to them, "How unbelieving you people are! How long must I stay with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring the boy to me!" 20 They brought him to Jesus. As soon as the spirit saw Jesus, it threw the boy into a fit, so that he fell on the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. 21 "How long has he been like this?" Jesus asked the father. "Ever since he was a child," he replied. 22 "Many times the evil spirit has tried to kill him by throwing him in the fire and into water. Have pity on us and help us, if you possibly can!" 23 "Yes," said Jesus, "if you yourself can! Everything is possible for the person who has faith." 24 The father at once cried out, "I do have faith, but not enough. Help me have more!" 25 Jesus noticed that the crowd was closing in on them, so he gave a command to the evil spirit. "Deaf and dumb spirit," he said, "I order you to come out of the boy and never go into him again!" 26 The spirit screamed, threw the boy into a bad fit, and came out. The boy looked like a corpse, and everyone said, "He is dead!" 27 But Jesus took the boy by the hand and helped him rise, and he stood up. 28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive the spirit out?" 29 "Only prayer can drive this kind out," answered Jesus; "nothing else can."

<B16> John 6

KJV w/Strong# - {1} After <3326> these <5023> things Jesus <2424> went <565> over <4008> the sea <2281> of Galilee <1056>, which is [the sea] of Tiberias <5085>. {2} And a great <4183> multitude <3793> followed <190> him, because <3754> they saw <3708> his miracles <4592> which <3739> he did <4160> on <1909> them that were diseased <770>.

{28} Then <3767> said <2036> they unto him, What <5101> shall we do <4160>, that we might work <2038> the works <2041> of God <2316>? {29} Jesus <2424> answered <611> and said <2036> unto them, This <5124> is the work <2041> of God <2316>, that ye believe <4100> on <1519> him whom <3739> he hath sent <649>.

{38} For I came <2597> down <2597> from heaven <3772>, not to do <4160> mine <1699> own will <2307>, but the will <2307> of him that sent <3992> me. {39} And this <5124> is the Father's <3962> will <2307> which <3588> hath sent <3992> me, that of all <3956> which he hath given <1325> me I should lose <622> nothing <848>, but should raise <450> it up again <450> at <1722> the last <2078> day <2250>. {40} And this <5124> is the will <2307> of him that sent <3992> me, that every <3956> one which <3588> seeth <2334> the Son <5207>, and believeth <4100> on <1519> him, may have <2192> everlasting <166> life <2222>: and I will raise <450> him up at the last <2078> day <2250>.

{47} Verily <281>, verily <281>, I say <3004> unto you, He that believeth <4100> on <1519> me hath <2192> everlasting <166> life <2222>.

NRSV - 1 After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, also called the Sea of Tiberias. 2 A large crowd kept following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing for the sick.

28 Then they said to him, "What must we do to perform the works of God?" 29 Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."

38 for I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day."

47 Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life.

TEV - "Jesus Feeds Five Thousand Men" - 1 After this, Jesus went across Lake Galilee (or, Lake Tiberias, as it is also called). 2 A large crowd followed him, because they had seen his miracles of healing the sick. 3 Jesus went up a hill and sat down with his disciples. 4 The time for the Passover Festival was near. 5 Jesus looked around and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, so he asked Philip, "Where can we buy enough food to feed all these people?" (6 He said this to test Philip; actually he already knew what he would do.)

"Jesus the Bread of Life" - 28 So they asked him, "What can we do in order to do what God wants us to do?" 29 Jesus answered, "What God wants you to do is to believe in the one he sent." 30 They replied, "What miracle will you perform so that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31 Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, just as the scripture says, "He gave them bread from heaven to eat."

35 "I am the bread of life," Jesus told them. "He who comes to me will never be hungry; he who believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 Now, I told you that you have seen me but will not believe. 37 Everyone whom my Father gives me will come to me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to me, 38 because I have come down from heaven to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And it is the will of him who sent me that I should not lose any of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them all to life on the last day. 40 For what my Father wants is that all who see the Son and believe in him should have eternal life. And I will raise them to life on the last day."

44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him to me; and I will raise him to life on the last day. 45 The prophets wrote, "Everyone will be taught by God.' Anyone who hears the Father and learns from him comes to me. 46 This does not mean that anyone has seen the Father; he who is from God is the only one who has seen the Father. 47 I am telling you the truth: he who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate manna in the desert, but they died. 50 But the bread that comes down from heaven is of such a kind that whoever eats it will not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever. The bread that I will give him is my flesh, which I give so that the world may live."

<B17> John 12

KJV w/Strong# - {32} And I, if <1437> I be lifted <5312> up from the earth <1093>, will draw <1670> all <3956> [men] unto me.

NRSV - 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself."

TEV - "Jesus Speaks about His Death" - 30 But Jesus said to them, "It was not for my sake that this voice spoke, but for yours. 31 Now is the time for this world to be judged; now the ruler of this world will be overthrown. 32 When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to me." (33 In saying this he indicated the kind of death he was going to suffer.) 34 The crowd answered, "Our Law tells us that the Messiah will live forever. How, then, can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"

<B18> 1 Peter 1

KJV w/Strong# - {3} Blessed <2128> [be] the God <2316> and Father <3962> of our Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, which <3588> according <2596> to his abundant <4183> mercy <1656> hath begotten <313> us again <313> unto a lively <2198> hope <1680> by the resurrection <386> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> from the dead <3498>, {4} To an inheritance <2817> incorruptible <862>, and undefiled <283>, and that fadeth <263> not away, reserved <5083> in heaven <3772> for you, {5} Who <3588> are kept <5432> by the power <1411> of God <2316> through <1223> faith <4102> unto salvation <4991> ready <2092> to be revealed <601> in the last <2078> time <2540>.

NRSV - 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

TEV - "A Living Hope" - 3 Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Because of his great mercy he gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from death. This fills us with a living hope, 4 and so we look forward to possessing the rich blessings that God keeps for his people. He keeps them for you in heaven, where they cannot decay or spoil or fade away. 5 They are for you, who through faith are kept safe by God's power for the salvation which is ready to be revealed at the end of time.

<B19> Psalm 56

KJV w/Strong# - {4} In God <0430> I will praise <01984> his word <01697>, in God <0430> I have put my trust <0982>; I will not fear <03372> what <04100> flesh <01320> can do <06213> unto me.

{13} For thou hast delivered <05337> my soul <05315> from death <04194>: [wilt] not [thou deliver <05337>] my feet <07272> from falling <01762>, that I may walk <01980> before <06440> God <0430> in the light <0216> of the living <02416>?

NRSV - 4 In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can flesh do to me?

13 For you have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from falling, so that I may walk before God in the light of life.

TEV - "A Prayer of Trust in God" - 1 Be merciful to me, O God, because I am under attack; my enemies persecute me all the time. 2 All day long my opponents attack me. There are so many who fight against me. 3 When I am afraid, O LORD Almighty, I put my trust in you. 4 I trust in God and am not afraid; I praise him for what he has promised. What can a mere human being do to me?

12 O God, I will offer you what I have promised; I will give you my offering of thanksgiving, 13 because you have rescued me from death and kept me from defeat. And so I walk in the presence of God, in the light that shines on the living.

<B20> Psalm 23

KJV w/Strong# - {1} The LORD <03068> [is] my shepherd <07462>; I shall not want <02637>. {2} He maketh me to lie <07257> down <07257> in green <01877> pastures <04999>: he leadeth <05095> me beside <05921> the still <04496> waters <04325>. {3} He restoreth <07725> my soul <05315>: he leadeth <05090> me in the paths <04570> of righteousness <06664> for his name's <08034> sake <04616>. {4} Yea <01571>, though <03588> I walk <03212> through the valley <01516> of the shadow <06757> of death <06757>, I will fear <03372> no <03808> evil <07451>: for thou [art] with me; thy rod <07626> and thy staff <04938> they comfort <05162> me. {5} Thou preparest <06186> a table <07979> before <06440> me in the presence <05048> of mine enemies <06887>: thou anointest <01878> my head <07218> with oil <08081>; my cup <03563> runneth <07310> over. {6} Surely <0389> goodness <02896> and mercy <02617> shall follow <07291> me all <03605> the days <03117> of my life <02416>: and I will dwell <03427> in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> for ever.

NRSV - 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; 3 he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff -- they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.

TEV - "The LORD Our Shepherd" - 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I have everything I need. 2 He lets me rest in fields of green grass and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water. 3 He gives me new strength. He guides me in the right paths, as he has promised. 4 Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, LORD, for you are with me. Your shepherd's rod and staff protect me. 5 You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me; you welcome me as an honored guest and fill my cup to the brim. 6 I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life; and your house will be my home as long as I live.

<B21> Isaiah 32

KJV w/Strong# - {17} And the work <04639> of righteousness <06666> shall be peace <07965>; and the effect <05656> of righteousness <06666> quietness <08252> and assurance <0983> for ever <05769>.

NRSV - 17 The effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.

DHH - 17 La justicia producirá paz, tranquilidad y confianza para siempre.

TEV - "Judgment and Restoration" - 15 But once more God will send us his spirit. The wasteland will become fertile, and fields will produce rich crops. 16 Everywhere in the land righteousness and justice will be done. 17 Because everyone will do what is right, there will be peace and security forever. 18 God's people will be free from worries, and their homes peaceful and safe. (19 But hail will fall on the forests, and the city will be torn down.) 20 How happy everyone will be with plenty of water for the crops and safe pasture everywhere for the donkeys and cattle.
