KJV w/Strong# - {20} ...I [am] with thee to save <03467> thee and to deliver <05337> thee, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.
NRSV - 20 ...I am with you to save you and deliver you, says the LORD.
TEV - "Jeremiah Complains to the LORD" - 19 To this the LORD replied, "If you return, I will take you back, and you will be my servant again. If instead of talking nonsense you proclaim a worthwhile message, you will be my prophet again. The people will come back to you, and you will not need to go to them. 20 I will make you like a solid bronze wall as far as they are concerned. They will fight against you, but they will not defeat you. I will be with you to protect you and keep you safe. 21 I will rescue you from the power of wicked and violent men. I, the LORD, have spoken."
KJV w/Strong# - {1} The LORD <03068> [is] my light <0216> and my salvation <03468>; whom <04310> shall I fear <03372>? the LORD <03068> [is] the strength <04581> of my life <02416>; of whom <04310> shall I be afraid <06342>?
{3} Though <0518> an host <04264> should encamp <02583> against <05921> me, my heart <03820> shall not fear <03372>: though <0518> war <04421> should rise <06965> against <05921> me, in this <02063> [will] I [be] confident <0982>.
{5} For in the time <03117> of trouble <07451> he shall hide <06845> me in his pavilion <05520>: in the secret <05643> of his tabernacle <0168> shall he hide <05641> me; he shall set <07311> me up upon a rock <06697>.
{8} [When thou saidst <0559>], Seek <01245> ye my face <06440>; my heart <03820> said <0559> unto thee, Thy face <06440>, LORD <03068>, will I seek <01245>.
NRSV - 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
3 Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, yet I will be confident.
5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock.
8 "Come," my heart says, "seek his face!" Your face, LORD, do I seek.
TEV - "A Prayer of Praise" - 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; I will fear no one. The LORD protects me from all danger; I will never be afraid. 2 When evil men attack me and try to kill me, they stumble and fall. 3 Even if a whole army surrounds me, I will not be afraid; even if enemies attack me, I will still trust God. 4 I have asked the LORD for one thing; one thing only do I want: to live in the LORD's house all my life, to marvel there at his goodness, and to ask for his guidance. 5 In times of trouble he will shelter me; he will keep me safe in his Temple and make me secure on a high rock. 6 So I will triumph over my enemies around me. With shouts of joy I will offer sacrifices in his Temple; I will sing, I will praise the LORD. 7 Hear me, LORD, when I call to you! Be merciful and answer me! 8 When you said, "Come worship me," I answered, "I will come, LORD." 9 Don't hide yourself from me! Don't be angry with me; don't turn your servant away. You have been my help; don't leave me, don't abandon me, O God, my savior. 10 My father and mother may abandon me, but the LORD will take care of me.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Unto thee will I cry <07121>, O LORD <03068> my rock <06697>;...
{6} Blessed <01288> [be] the LORD <03068>, because <03588> he hath heard <08085> the voice <06963> of my supplications <08469>. {7} The LORD <03068> [is] my strength <05797> and my shield <04043>; my heart <03820> trusted <0982> in him, and I am helped <05826>: therefore my heart <03820> greatly rejoiceth <05937>; and with my song <07892> will I praise <03034> him.
{9} Save <03467> thy people <05971>, and bless <01288> thine inheritance <05159>: feed <07462> them also, and lift <05375> them up for ever <05769>.
NRSV - 1 To you, O LORD, I call; my rock,...
6 Blessed be the LORD, for he has heard the sound of my pleadings. 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
9 O save your people, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever.
TEV - "A Prayer for Help" - 1 O LORD, my defender, I call to you. Listen to my cry! If you do not answer me, I will be among those who go down to the world of the dead. 2 Hear me when I cry to you for help, when I lift my hands toward your holy Temple. 3 Do not condemn me with the wicked, with those who do evil -- men whose words are friendly, but who have hatred in their hearts. 4 Punish them for what they have done, for the evil they have committed. Punish them for all their deeds; give them what they deserve! 5 They take no notice of what the LORD has done or of what he has made; so he will punish them and destroy them forever. 6 Give praise to the LORD; he has heard my cry for help. 7 The LORD protects and defends me; I trust in him. He gives me help and makes me glad; I praise him with joyful songs. 8 The LORD protects his people; he defends and saves his chosen king. 9 Save your people, LORD, and bless those who are yours. Be their shepherd, and take care of them forever.
<B1> Psalm 90
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Lord <0136>, thou hast been <01961> our dwelling <04583> place in all generations <01755>. {2} Before <02962> the mountains <02022> were brought <03205> forth <03205>, or ever thou hadst formed <02342> the earth <0776> and the world <08398>, even from everlasting <05769> to everlasting <05769>, thou [art] God <0410>.
NRSV - 1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
TEV - "Of God and Man" - 1 O Lord, you have always been our home. 2 Before you created the hills or brought the world into being, you were eternally God, and will be God forever.
KJV w/Strong# - {7} Whither <0575> shall I go <03212> from thy spirit <07307>? or whither <0575> shall I flee <01272> from thy presence <06440>? {8} If <0518> I ascend <05927> up into heaven <08064>, thou [art] there <08033>: if I make <03331> my bed <03331> in hell <07585>, behold <02009>, thou [art there]. {9} [If] I take <05375> the wings <03671> of the morning <07837>, [and] dwell <07931> in the uttermost <0319> parts of the sea <03220>; {10} Even <01571> there <08033> shall thy hand <03027> lead <05148> me, and thy right <03225> hand <03225> shall hold <0270> me.
NRSV - 7 Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, 10 even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.
TEV - "God's Complete Knowledge and Care" - 7 Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? 8 If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. 9 If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, 10 you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me. 11 I could ask the darkness to hide me or the light around me to turn into night, 12 but even darkness is not dark for you, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same to you.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} I will lift <05375> up mine eyes <05869> unto the hills <02022>, from whence <0370> cometh <0935> my help <05828>. {2} My help <05828> [cometh] from the LORD <03068>, which made <06213> heaven <08064> and earth <0776>.
{7} The LORD <03068> shall preserve <08104> thee from all <03605> evil <07451>: he shall preserve <08104> thy soul <05315>.
NRSV - 1 I lift up my eyes to the hills -- from where will my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
7 The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
TEV - "The LORD Our Protector" - 1 I look to the mountains; where will my help come from? 2 My help will come from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not let you fall; your protector is always awake. 4 The protector of Israel never dozes or sleeps. 5 The LORD will guard you; he is by your side to protect you. 6 The sun will not hurt you during the day, nor the moon during the night. 7 The LORD will protect you from all danger; he will keep you safe. 8 He will protect you as you come and go now and forever.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} But now <06258> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> that created <01254> thee, O Jacob <03290>, and he that formed <03335> thee, O Israel <03478>, Fear <03372> not: for I have redeemed <01350> thee, I have called <07121> [thee] by thy name <08034>; thou [art] mine. {2} When <03588> thou passest <05674> through the waters <04325>, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers <05103>, they shall not overflow <07857> thee: when <03588> thou walkest <03212> through <01119> the fire <0784>, thou shalt not be burned <03554>; neither <03808> shall the flame <03852> kindle <01197> upon thee. {3} For I [am] the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, the Holy <06918> One of Israel <03478>, thy Saviour <03467>:...
NRSV - 1 But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. 3 For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior...
TEV - "God Promises to Rescue His People" - 1 Israel, the LORD who created you says, "Do not be afraid -- I will save you. I have called you by name -- you are mine. 2 When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you. 3 For I am the LORD your God, the holy God of Israel, who saves you. I will give up Egypt to set you free; I will give up Sudan and Seba.
<B5> Proverbs 3
KJV w/Strong# - {5} Trust <0982> in the LORD <03068> with all <03605> thine heart <03820>; and lean <08172> not unto thine own understanding <0998>. {6} In all <03605> thy ways <01870> acknowledge <03045> him, and he shall direct <03474> thy paths <0734>.
NRSV - 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
TEV - "Advice to Young Men" - 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. 6 Remember the LORD in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. 7 Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are; simply obey the LORD and refuse to do wrong. 8 If you do, it will be like good medicine, healing your wounds and easing your pains. 9 Honor the LORD by making him an offering from the best of all that your land produces. 10 If you do, your barns will be filled with grain, and you will have too much wine to store it all.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} And the LORD <03068> spake <0559> unto Moses <04872>, Go <0935> unto Pharaoh <06547>, and say <0559> unto him, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Let my people <05971> go <07971>, that they may serve <05647> me.
NRSV - 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, "Thus says the LORD: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.
TEV - "Frogs" - 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the king and tell him that the LORD says, "Let my people go, so that they can worship me. 2 If you refuse, I will punish your country by covering it with frogs. 3 The Nile will be so full of frogs that they will leave it and go into your palace, your bedroom, your bed, the houses of your officials and your people, and even into your ovens and baking pans. 4 They will jump up on you, your people, and all your officials."
KJV w/Strong# - {17} And it came <01961> to pass, when Pharaoh <06547> had let the people <05971> go <07971>, that God <0430> led <05148> them not [through] the way <01870> of the land <0776> of the Philistines <06430>, although <03588> that [was] near <07138>;...
{18} But God <0430> led <05437> the people <05971> about <05437>, [through] the way <01870> of the wilderness <04057> of the Red <05488> sea <03220>: and the children <01121> of Israel <03478> went <05927> up harnessed <02571> out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>.
{21} And the LORD <03068> went <01980> before <06440> them by day <03119> in a pillar <05982> of a cloud <06051>, to lead <05148> them the way <01870>; and by night <03915> in a pillar <05982> of fire <0784>, to give them light <0216>; to go <03212> by day <03119> and night <03915>:
NRSV - 17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was nearer;...
18 So God led the people by the roundabout way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of the land of Egypt prepared for battle.
21 The LORD went in front of them in a pillar of cloud by day, to lead them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light, so that they might travel by day and by night.
TEV - "The Pillar of Cloud and the Pillar of Fire" - 17 When the king of Egypt let the people go, God did not take them by the road that goes up the coast to Philistia, although it was the shortest way. God thought, "I do not want the people to change their minds and return to Egypt when they see that they are going to have to fight." 18 Instead, he led them in a roundabout way through the desert toward the Red Sea. The Israelites were armed for battle. 19 Moses took the body of Joseph with him, as Joseph had made the Israelites solemnly promise to do. Joseph had said, "When God rescues you, you must carry my body with you from this place." 20 The Israelites left Sukkoth and camped at Etham on the edge of the desert. 21 During the day the LORD went in front of them in a pillar of cloud to show them the way, and during the night he went in front of them in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel night and day. 22 The pillar of cloud was always in front of the people during the day, and the pillar of fire at night.
KJV w/Strong# - {5} And it was told <05046> the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> that the people <05971> fled <01272>: and the heart <03824> of Pharaoh <06547> and of his servants <05650> was turned <02015> against <0413> the people <05971>, and they said <0559>, Why <04100> have we done <06213> this <02063>, that we have let Israel <03478> go <07971> from serving <05647> us? {6} And he made ready <0631> his chariot <07393>, and took <03947> his people <05971> with him:
{10} And when Pharaoh <06547> drew nigh <07126>, the children <01121> of Israel <03478> lifted <05375> up their eyes <05869>, and, behold <02009>, the Egyptians <04714> marched <05265> after <0310> them; and they were sore <03966> afraid <03372>: and the children <01121> of Israel <03478> cried <06817> out unto the LORD <03068>.
{13} And Moses <04872> said <0559> unto the people <05971>, Fear <03372> ye not, stand <03320> still, and see <07200> the salvation <03444> of the LORD <03068>, which <0834> he will shew <06213> to you to day <03117>: for the Egyptians <04714> whom <0834> ye have seen <07200> to day <03117>, ye shall see <07200> them again <03254> no <03808> more <05750> for ever <05769>.
{21} And Moses <04872> stretched <05186> out his hand <03027> over <05921> the sea <03220>; and the LORD <03068> caused the sea <03220> to go <03212> [back] by a strong <05794> east <06921> wind <07307> all <03605> that night <03915>, and made <07760> the sea <03220> dry <02724> [land], and the waters <04325> were divided <01234>. {22} And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> went <0935> into the midst <08432> of the sea <03220> upon the dry <03004> [ground]: and the waters <04325> [were] a wall <02346> unto them on their right <03225> hand <03225>, and on their left <08040>.
{30} Thus the LORD <03068> saved <03467> Israel <03478> that day <03117> out of the hand <03027> of the Egyptians <04714>;...
NRSV - 5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the minds of Pharaoh and his officials were changed toward the people, and they said, "What have we done, letting Israel leave our service?" 6 So he had his chariot made ready, and took his army with him;
10 As Pharaoh drew near, the Israelites looked back, and there were the Egyptians advancing on them. In great fear the Israelites cried out to the LORD.
13 But Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid, stand firm, and see the deliverance that the LORD will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today you shall never see again.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided. 22 The Israelites went into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left.
30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the Egyptians;...
TEV - "Crossing the Red Sea" - 5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had escaped, he and his officials changed their minds and said, "What have we done? We have let the Israelites escape, and we have lost them as our slaves!" 6 The king got his war chariot and his army ready. 7 He set out with all his chariots, including the six hundred finest, commanded by their officers. 8 The LORD made the king stubborn, and he pursued the Israelites, who were leaving triumphantly. 9 The Egyptian army, with all the horses, chariots, and drivers, pursued them and caught up with them where they were camped by the Red Sea near Pi Hahiroth and Baal Zephon. 10 When the Israelites saw the king and his army marching against them, they were terrified and cried out to the LORD for help. 11 They said to Moses, "Weren't there any graves in Egypt? Did you have to bring us out here in the desert to die? Look what you have done by bringing us out of Egypt! 12 Didn't we tell you before we left that this would happen? We told you to leave us alone and let us go on being slaves of the Egyptians. It would be better to be slaves there than to die here in the desert." 13 Moses answered, "Don't be afraid! Stand your ground, and you will see what the LORD will do to save you today; you will never see these Egyptians again. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and all you have to do is keep still."
21 Moses held out his hand over the sea, and the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind. It blew all night and turned the sea into dry land. The water was divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on both sides. 23 The Egyptians pursued them and went after them into the sea with all their horses, chariots, and drivers. 24 Just before dawn the LORD looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw them into a panic. 25 He made the wheels of their chariots get stuck, so that they moved with great difficulty. The Egyptians said, "The LORD is fighting for the Israelites against us. Let's get out of here!"
30 On that day the LORD saved the people of Israel from the Egyptians, and the Israelites saw them lying dead on the seashore. 31 When the Israelites saw the great power with which the LORD had defeated the Egyptians, they stood in awe of the LORD; and they had faith in the LORD and in his servant Moses.
<B9> Exodus 16
KJV w/Strong# - {2} And the whole <03605> congregation <05712> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> murmured <03885> against <05921> Moses <04872> and Aaron <0175> in the wilderness <04057>: {3} And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> said <0559> unto them, Would to God we had died <04191> by the hand <03027> of the LORD <03068> in the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, when we sat <03427> by the flesh <01320> pots <05518>, [and] when we did eat <0398> bread <03899> to the full <07648>; for ye have brought <03318> us forth <03318> into <0413> this <02088> wilderness <04057>, to kill <04191> this <02088> whole assembly <06951> with hunger <07457>.
{11} And the LORD <03068> spake <01696> unto Moses <04872>, saying <0559>, {12} I have heard <08085> the murmurings <08519> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>: speak <01696> unto them, saying <0559>, At <0996> even <06153> ye shall eat <0398> flesh <01320>, and in the morning <01242> ye shall be filled <07646> with bread <03899>; and ye shall know <03045> that I [am] the LORD <03068> your God <0430>. {13} And it came <01961> to pass, that at even <06153> the quails <07958> came <05927> up, and covered <03680> the camp <04264>: and in the morning <01242> the dew <02919> lay <07902> round <05439> about the host <04264>. {14} And when the dew <02919> that lay <07902> was gone <05927> up, behold <02009>, upon the face <06440> of the wilderness <04057> [there lay] a small <01851> round <02636> thing, [as] small <01851> as the hoar <03713> frost <03713> on <05921> the ground <0776>. {15} And when the children <01121> of Israel <03478> saw <07200> [it], they said <0559> one <0376> to another <0250>, It [is] manna <04478>: for they wist <03045> not what <04100> it [was]. And Moses <04872> said <0559> unto them, This <01931> [is] the bread <03899> which <0834> the LORD <03068> hath given <05414> you to eat <0402>.
{21} And they gathered <03950> it every morning <01242>, every man <0376> according <06310> to his eating <0400>:...
{35} And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> did eat <0398> manna <04478> forty <0705> years <08141>, until <05704> they came <0935> to a land <0776> inhabited <01753>; they did eat <0398> manna <04478>, until <05704> they came <0935> unto the borders <07097> of the land <0776> of Canaan <03667>.
NRSV - 2 The whole congregation of the Israelites complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. 3 The Israelites said to them, "If only we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and ate our fill of bread; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."
11 The LORD spoke to Moses and said, 12 "I have heard the complaining of the Israelites; say to them, "At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread; then you shall know that I am the LORD your God."' 13 In the evening quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp. 14 When the layer of dew lifted, there on the surface of the wilderness was a fine flaky substance, as fine as frost on the ground. 15 When the Israelites saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. Moses said to them, "It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.
21 Morning by morning they gathered it, as much as each needed;...
35 The Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a habitable land; they ate manna, until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.
TEV - "The Manna and the Quails" - 1 The whole Israelite community set out from Elim, and on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left Egypt, they came to the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai. 2 There in the desert they all complained to Moses and Aaron 3 and said to them, "We wish that the LORD had killed us in Egypt. There we could at least sit down and eat meat and as much other food as we wanted. But you have brought us out into this desert to starve us all to death." 4 The LORD said to Moses, "Now I am going to cause food to rain down from the sky for all of you. The people must go out every day and gather enough for that day. In this way I can test them to find out if they will follow my instructions. 5 On the sixth day they are to bring in twice as much as usual and prepare it."
9 Moses said to Aaron, "Tell the whole community to come and stand before the LORD, because he has heard their complaints." 10 As Aaron spoke to the whole community, they turned toward the desert, and suddenly the dazzling light of the LORD appeared in a cloud. 11 The LORD said to Moses, 12 "I have heard the complaints of the Israelites. Tell them that at twilight they will have meat to eat, and in the morning they will have all the bread they want. Then they will know that I, the LORD, am their God." 13 In the evening a large flock of quails flew in, enough to cover the camp, and in the morning there was dew all around the camp. 14 When the dew evaporated, there was something thin and flaky on the surface of the desert. It was as delicate as frost. 15 When the Israelites saw it, they didn't know what it was and asked each other, "What is it?" Moses said to them, "This is the food that the LORD has given you to eat. 16 The LORD has commanded that each of you is to gather as much of it as he needs, two quarts for each member of his household." 17 The Israelites did this, some gathering more, others less. 18 When they measured it, those who gathered much did not have too much, and those who gathered less did not have too little. Each had gathered just what he needed. 19 Moses said to them, "No one is to keep any of it for tomorrow." 20 But some of them did not listen to Moses and saved part of it. The next morning it was full of worms and smelled rotten, and Moses was angry with them. 21 Every morning each one gathered as much as he needed; and when the sun grew hot, what was left on the ground melted.
35 The Israelites ate manna for the next forty years, until they reached the land of Canaan, where they settled. (36 The standard dry measure then in use equaled twenty quarts.)
KJV w/Strong# - {19} ... verily <0403> God <0430> hath heard <08085> [me]; he hath attended <07181> to the voice <06963> of my prayer <08605>. {20} Blessed <01288> [be] God <0430>, which <0834> hath not turned <05493> away my prayer <08605>, nor his mercy <02617> from me.
NRSV - 19 ...truly God has listened; he has given heed to the words of my prayer. 20 Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me.
TEV - "A Song of Praise and Thanksgiving" - 13 I will bring burnt offerings to your house; I will offer you what I promised. 14 I will give you what I said I would when I was in trouble. 15 I will offer sheep to be burned on the altar; I will sacrifice bulls and goats, and the smoke will go up to the sky. 16 Come and listen, all who honor God, and I will tell you what he has done for me. 17 I cried to him for help; I praised him with songs. 18 If I had ignored my sins, the Lord would not have listened to me. 19 But God has indeed heard me; he has listened to my prayer. 20 I praise God, because he did not reject my prayer or keep back his constant love from me.
<B11> Proverbs 14
KJV w/Strong# - {26} In the fear <03374> of the LORD <03068> [is] strong <05797> confidence <04009>: and his children <01121> shall have <01961> a place of refuge <04268>.
NRSV - 26 In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and one's children will have a refuge.
TEV - "Solomon's Proverbs" - 22 You will earn the trust and respect of others if you work for good; if you work for evil, you are making a mistake. 23 Work and you will earn a living; if you sit around talking you will be poor. 24 Wise people are rewarded with wealth, but fools are known by their foolishness. 25 A witness saves lives when he tells the truth; when he tells lies, he betrays people. 26 Reverence for the LORD gives confidence and security to a man and his family. 27 Do you want to avoid death? Reverence for the LORD is a fountain of life.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Hear <08085> my cry <07440>, O God <0430>; attend <07181> unto my prayer <08605>. {2} From the end <07097> of the earth <0776> will I cry <07121> unto thee, when my heart <03820> is overwhelmed <05848>: lead <05148> me to the rock <06697> [that] is higher <07311> than I. {3} For thou hast been <01961> a shelter <04268> for me, [and] a strong <05797> tower <04026> from the enemy <0341>. {4} I will abide <01481> in thy tabernacle <0168> for ever <05769>: I will trust <02620> in the covert <05643> of thy wings <03671>.
NRSV - 1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth I call to you, when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I; 3 for you are my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. 4 Let me abide in your tent forever, find refuge under the shelter of your wings.
TEV - "A Prayer for Protection" - 1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer! 2 In despair and far from home I call to you! Take me to a safe refuge, 3 for you are my protector, my strong defense against my enemies. 4 Let me live in your sanctuary all my life; let me find safety under your wings. 5 You have heard my promises, O God, and you have given me what belongs to those who honor you. 6 Add many years to the king's life; let him live on and on! 7 May he rule forever in your presence, O God; protect him with your constant love and faithfulness. 8 So I will always sing praises to you, as I offer you daily what I have promised.
KJV w/Strong# - {1} O give thanks <03034> unto the LORD <03068>, for [he is] good <02896>: for his mercy <02617> [endureth] for ever <05769>. {2} Let the redeemed <01350> of the LORD <03068> say <0559> [so], whom <0834> he hath redeemed <01350> from the hand <03027> of the enemy <06862>; {3} And gathered <06908> them out of the lands <0776>, from the east <04217>, and from the west <04628>, from the north <06828>, and from the south <03220>. {4} They wandered <08582> in the wilderness <04057> in a solitary <03452> way <01870>; they found <04672> no <03808> city <05892> to dwell <04186> in. {5} Hungry <07456> and thirsty <06771>, their soul <05315> fainted <05848> in them. {6} Then they cried <06817> unto the LORD <03068> in their trouble <06862>, [and] he delivered <05337> them out of their distresses <04691>. {7} And he led <01869> them forth by the right <03477> way <01870>, that they might go <03212> to a city <05892> of habitation <04186>.
NRSV - 1 O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, those he redeemed from trouble 3 and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. 4 Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to an inhabited town; 5 hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. 6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress; 7 he led them by a straight way, until they reached an inhabited town.
TEV - "In Praise of God's Goodness" - 1 "Give thanks to the LORD, because he is good; his love is eternal!" 2 Repeat these words in praise to the LORD, all you whom he has saved. He has rescued you from your enemies 3 and has brought you back from foreign countries, from east and west, from north and south. 4 Some wandered in the trackless desert and could not find their way to a city to live in. 5 They were hungry and thirsty and had given up all hope. 6 Then in their trouble they called to the LORD, and he saved them from their distress. 7 He led them by a straight road to a city where they could live. 8 They must thank the LORD for his constant love, for the wonderful things he did for them. 9 He satisfies those who are thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
KJV w/Strong# - {10} For the mountains <02022> shall depart <04185>, and the hills <01389> be removed <04131>; but my kindness <02617> shall not depart <04185> from thee, neither <03808> shall the covenant <01285> of my peace <07965> be removed <04131>, saith <0559> the LORD <03068> that hath mercy <07355> on thee.
NRSV - 10 For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
TEV - "The LORD's Love for Israel" - 9 "In the time of Noah I promised never again to flood the earth. Now I promise not to be angry with you again; I will not reprimand or punish you. 10 The mountains and hills may crumble, but my love for you will never end; I will keep forever my promise of peace." So says the LORD who loves you.
KJV w/Strong# - {17} And the work <04639> of righteousness <06666> shall be peace <07965>; and the effect <05656> of righteousness <06666> quietness <08252> and assurance <0983> for ever <05769>. {18} And my people <05971> shall dwell <03427> in a peaceable <07965> habitation <05116>, and in sure <04009> dwellings <04908>, and in quiet <07600> resting <04496> places;
NRSV - 17 The effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. 18 My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.
TEV - "Judgment and Restoration" - 15 But once more God will send us his spirit. The wasteland will become fertile, and fields will produce rich crops. 16 Everywhere in the land righteousness and justice will be done. 17 Because everyone will do what is right, there will be peace and security forever. 18 God's people will be free from worries, and their homes peaceful and safe. (19 But hail will fall on the forests, and the city will be torn down.) 20 How happy everyone will be with plenty of water for the crops and safe pasture everywhere for the donkeys and cattle.
<B16> 1 John 4
KJV w/Strong# - {9} In this <5129> was manifested <5319> the love <26> of God <2316> toward <1722> us, because <3754> that God <2316> sent <649> his only <3439> begotten <3439> Son <5207> into <1519> the world <2889>, that we might live <2198> through <1223> him.
NRSV - 9 God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
TEV - "God Is Love" - 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Whoever loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 And God showed his love for us by sending his only Son into the world, so that we might have life through him. 10 This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the means by which our sins are forgiven. 11 Dear friends, if this is how God loved us, then we should love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in union with us, and his love is made perfect in us.
KJV w/Strong# - {46} So <3767> Jesus <2424> came <2064> again <3825> into <1519> Cana <2580> of Galilee <1056>, where <3699> he made <4160> the water <5204> wine <3631>. And there was a certain <5100> nobleman <937>, whose <3739> son <5207> was sick <770> at <1722> Capernaum <2584>. {47} When he heard <191> that Jesus <2424> was come <2240> out of Judaea <2449> into <1519> Galilee <1056>, he went <565> unto him, and besought <2065> him that he would come <2597> down <2597>, and heal <2390> his son <5207>: for he was at <3195> the point <3195> of death <599>. {48} Then <3767> said <2036> Jesus <2424> unto him, Except <3362> ye see <1492> signs <4592> and wonders <5059>, ye will not believe <4100>. {49} The nobleman <937> saith <3004> unto him, Sir <2962>, come <2597> down <2597> ere <4250> my child <3813> die <599>. {50} Jesus <2424> saith <3004> unto him, Go <4198> thy way; thy son <5207> liveth <2198>. And the man <444> believed <4100> the word <3056> that Jesus <2424> had spoken <2036> unto him, and he went <4198> his way. {51} And as he was now <2235> going <2597> down <2597>, his servants <1401> met <528> him, and told <518> [him], saying <3004>, Thy son <3816> liveth <2198>. {52} Then <3767> enquired <4441> he of them the hour <5610> when <3739> he began <2192> to amend <2866>. And they said <2036> unto him, Yesterday <5504> at the seventh <1442> hour <5610> the fever <4446> left <863> him. {53} So <3767> the father <3962> knew <1097> that [it was] at <1722> the same <1565> hour <5610>, in the which <3739> Jesus <2424> said <2036> unto him, Thy son <5207> liveth <2198>: and himself <846> believed <4100>, and his whole <3650> house <3614>.
NRSV - 46 Then he came again to Cana in Galilee where he had changed the water into wine. Now there was a royal official whose son lay ill in Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe." 49 The official said to him, "Sir, come down before my little boy dies." 50 Jesus said to him, "Go; your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way. 51 As he was going down, his slaves met him and told him that his child was alive. 52 So he asked them the hour when he began to recover, and they said to him, "Yesterday at one in the afternoon the fever left him." 53 The father realized that this was the hour when Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live." So he himself believed, along with his whole household.
TEV - "Jesus Heals an Official's Son" - 43 After spending two days there, Jesus left and went to Galilee. 44 For he himself had said, "A prophet is not respected in his own country." 45 When he arrived in Galilee, the people there welcomed him, because they had gone to the Passover Festival in Jerusalem and had seen everything that he had done during the festival. 46 Then Jesus went back to Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. A government official was there whose son was sick in Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to go to Capernaum and heal his son, who was about to die. 48 Jesus said to him, "None of you will ever believe unless you see miracles and wonders." 49 "Sir," replied the official, "come with me before my child dies." 50 Jesus said to him, "Go; your son will live!" The man believed Jesus' words and went. 51 On his way home his servants met him with the news, "Your boy is going to live!" 52 He asked them what time it was when his son got better, and they answered, "It was one o'clock yesterday afternoon when the fever left him." 53 Then the father remembered that it was at that very hour when Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." So he and all his family believed. 54 This was the second miracle that Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.
<B18> 1 Corinthians 10
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Moreover <1161>, brethren <80>, I would <2309> not that ye should be ignorant <50>, how that all <3956> our fathers <3962> were under <5259> the cloud <3507>, and all <3956> passed <1330> through <1223> the sea <2281>; {2} And were all <3956> baptized <907> unto Moses <3475> in the cloud <3507> and in the sea <2281>; {3} And did all <3956> eat <5315> the same <846> spiritual <4152> meat <1033>; {4} And did all <3956> drink <4095> the same <846> spiritual <4152> drink <4188>: for they drank <4095> of that spiritual <4152> Rock <4073> that followed <190> them: and that Rock <4073> was Christ <5547>.
NRSV - 1 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
TEV - "Warnings against Idols" - 1 I want you to remember, my brothers, what happened to our ancestors who followed Moses. They were all under the protection of the cloud, and all passed safely through the Red Sea. 2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptized as followers of Moses. 3 All ate the same spiritual bread 4 and drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from the spiritual rock that went with them; and that rock was Christ himself. 5 But even then God was not pleased with most of them, and so their dead bodies were scattered over the desert.
KJV w/Strong# - {28} And we know <1492> that all <3956> things work <4903> together <4903> for good <18> to them that love <25> God <2316>, to them who are the called <2822> according <2596> to [his] purpose <4286>.
{31} What <5101> shall we then <3767> say <2046> to these <5023> things? If <1487> God <2316> [be] for us, who <5101> [can be] against <2596> us?
{35} Who <5101> shall separate <5563> us from the love <26> of Christ <5547>? [shall] tribulation <2347>, or <2228> distress <4730>, or <2228> persecution <1375>, or <2228> famine <3042>, or <2228> nakedness <1132>, or <2228> peril <2794>, or <2228> sword <3162>?
{37} Nay <235>, in all <3956> these <5125> things we are more <5245> than <5245> conquerors <5245> through <1223> him that loved <25> us. {38} For I am persuaded <3982>, that neither <3777> death <2288>, nor <3777> life <2222>, nor <3777> angels <32>, nor <3777> principalities <746>, nor <3777> powers <1411>, nor <3777> things present <1764>, nor <3777> things to come <3195>, {39} Nor <3777> height <5313>, nor <3777> depth <899>, nor <3777> any <5100> other <2087> creature <2937>, shall be able <1410> to separate <5563> us from the love <26> of God <2316>, which <3588> is in Christ <5547> Jesus <2424> our Lord <2962>.
NRSV - 28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
31 What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
TEV - "The Future Glory" - 28 We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. 29 Those whom God had already chosen he also set apart to become like his Son, so that the Son would be the first among many brothers. 30 And so those whom God set apart, he called; and those he called, he put right with himself, and he shared his glory with them.
"God's Love in Christ Jesus" - 31 In view of all this, what can we say? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 Certainly not God, who did not even keep back his own Son, but offered him for us all! He gave us his Son -- will he not also freely give us all things? 33 Who will accuse God's chosen people? God himself declares them not guilty! 34 Who, then, will condemn them? Not Christ Jesus, who died, or rather, who was raised to life and is at the right side of God, pleading with him for us! 35 Who, then, can separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble do it, or hardship or persecution or hunger or poverty or danger or death? 36 As the scripture says, "For your sake we are in danger of death at all times; we are treated like sheep that are going to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us! 38 For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, 39 neither the world above nor the world below -- there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.
