KJV w/Strong# - {11} God <0430> hath spoken <01696> once <0259>; twice <08147> have I heard <08085> this <02098>; that power <05797> [belongeth] unto God <0430>.
NRSV - 11 Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God,
TEV - "Confidence in God's Protection" - 11 More than once I have heard God say that power belongs to him 12 and that his love is constant. You yourself, O Lord, reward everyone according to his deeds.
KJV w/Strong# - {7} And there was war <4171> in heaven <3772>: Michael <3413> and his angels <32> fought <4170> against <2596> the dragon <1404>; and the dragon <1404> fought <4170> and his angels <32>, {8} And prevailed <2480> not; neither <3777> was their place <5117> found <2147> any <2089> more <2089> in heaven <3772>. {9} And the great <3173> dragon <1404> was cast <906> out, that old <744> serpent <3789>, called <2564> the Devil <1228>, and Satan <4567>, which <3588> deceiveth <4105> the whole <3650> world <3625>: he was cast <906> out into <1519> the earth <1093>, and his angels <32> were cast <906> out with him. {10} And I heard <191> a loud <3173> voice <5456> saying <3004> in heaven <3772>, Now <737> is come <1096> salvation <4991>, and strength <1411>, and the kingdom <932> of our God <2316>, and the power <1849> of his Christ <5547>: for the accuser <2723> of our brethren <80> is cast <2598> down <2598>, which <3588> accused <2725> them before <1799> our God <2316> day <2250> and night <3571>.
{12} Therefore <5124> rejoice <2165>, [ye] heavens <3772>, and ye that dwell <4637> in them...
NRSV - 7 And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world -- he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming, "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Messiah, for the accuser of our comrades has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.
12 Rejoice then, you heavens and those who dwell in them!...
TEV - "The Woman and the Dragon" - 7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, who fought back with his angels; 8 but the dragon was defeated, and he and his angels were not allowed to stay in heaven any longer. 9 The huge dragon was thrown out -- that ancient serpent, named the Devil, or Satan, that deceived the whole world. He was thrown down to earth, and all his angels with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, "Now God's salvation has come! Now God has shown his power as King! Now his Messiah has shown his authority! For the one who stood before our God and accused our brothers day and night has been thrown out of heaven. 11 Our brothers won the victory over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the truth which they proclaimed; and they were willing to give up their lives and die. 12 And so be glad, you heavens, and all you that live there! But how terrible for the earth and the sea! For the Devil has come down to you, and he is filled with rage, because he knows that he has only a little time left."
KJV w/Strong# - {6} And I heard <191> as it were the voice <5456> of a great <4183> multitude <3793>, and as the voice <5456> of many <4183> waters <5204>, and as the voice <5456> of mighty <2478> thunderings <1027>, saying <3004>, Alleluia <239>: for the Lord <2962> God <2316> omnipotent <3841> reigneth <936>.
NRSV - 6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying out, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.
TEV - "The Wedding Feast of the Lamb" - 5 Then there came from the throne the sound of a voice, saying, "Praise our God, all his servants and all people, both great and small, who have reverence for him!" 6 Then I heard what sounded like a crowd, like the sound of a roaring waterfall, like loud peals of thunder. I heard them say, "Praise God! For the Lord, our Almighty God, is King! 7 Let us rejoice and be glad; let us praise his greatness! For the time has come for the wedding of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself for it. 8 She has been given clean shining linen to wear." (The linen is the good deeds of God's people.)
<B1> Isaiah 14
KJV w/Strong# - {12} How <0349> art thou fallen <05307> from heaven <08064>, O Lucifer <01966>, son <01121> of the morning <07837>! [how] art thou cut <01438> down <01438> to the ground <0776>, which didst weaken <02522> the nations <01471>! {13} For thou hast said <0559> in thine heart <03824>, I will ascend <05927> into heaven <08064>, I will exalt <07311> my throne <03678> above <04605> the stars <03556> of God <0410>: I will sit <03427> also upon the mount <02022> of the congregation <04150>, in the sides <03411> of the north <06828>: {14} I will ascend <05927> above <05921> the heights <01116> of the clouds <05645>; I will be like <01819> the most <05945> High <05945>. {15} Yet <0389> thou shalt be brought <03381> down <03381> to hell <07585>, to the sides <03411> of the pit <0953>.
{27} For the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635> hath purposed <03289>, and who <04310> shall disannul <06565> [it]? and his hand <03027> [is] stretched <05186> out, and who <04310> shall turn <07725> it back <07725>?
NRSV - 12 How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! 13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; 14 I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High." 15 But you are brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the Pit.
27 For the LORD of hosts has planned, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?
TEV - "The King of Babylon in the World of the Dead" - 12 King of Babylon, bright morning star, you have fallen from heaven! In the past you conquered nations, but now you have been thrown to the ground. 13 You were determined to climb up to heaven and to place your throne above the highest stars. You thought you would sit like a king on that mountain in the north where the gods assemble. 14 You said you would climb to the tops of the clouds and be like the Almighty. 15 But instead, you have been brought down to the deepest part of the world of the dead. 16 The dead will stare and gape at you. They will ask, "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble? 17 Is this the man who destroyed cities and turned the world into a desert? Is this the man who never freed his prisoners or let them go home?"
"God Will Destroy the Assyrians" - 24 The LORD Almighty has sworn an oath: "What I have planned will happen. What I have determined to do will be done. 25 I will destroy the Assyrians in my land of Israel and trample them on my mountains. I will free my people from the Assyrian yoke and from the burdens they have had to bear. 26 This is my plan for the world, and my arm is stretched out to punish the nations." 27 The LORD Almighty is determined to do this; he has stretched out his arm to punish, and no one can stop him.
KJV w/Strong# - {10} Now <06258> will I rise <06965>, saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; now <06258> will I be exalted <07311>; now <06258> will I lift <05375> up myself.
{13} Hear <08085>, ye [that are] far <07350> off, what <0834> I have done <06213>; and, ye [that are] near <07138>, acknowledge <03045> my might <01369>.
NRSV - 10 "Now I will arise," says the LORD, "now I will lift myself up; now I will be exalted.
13 Hear, you who are far away, what I have done; and you who are near, acknowledge my might.
TEV - "The LORD Warns His Enemies" - 10 The LORD says to the nations, "Now I will act. I will show how powerful I am. 11 You make worthless plans and everything you do is useless. My spirit is like a fire that will destroy you. 12 You will crumble like rocks burned to make lime, like thorns burned to ashes. 13 Let everyone near and far hear what I have done and acknowledge my power."
KJV w/Strong# - {10} Fear <03372> thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed <08159>; for I [am] thy God <0430>: I will strengthen <0553> thee; yea <0637>, I will help <05826> thee; yea <0637>, I will uphold <08551> thee with the right <03225> hand <03225> of my righteousness <06664>. {11} Behold <02005>, all <03605> they that were incensed <02734> against thee shall be ashamed <0954> and confounded <03637>: they shall be as nothing <0369>; and they that strive <07379> with thee shall perish <06>. {12} Thou shalt seek <01245> them, and shalt not find <04672> them, [even] them that contended <04695> with thee: they that war <04421> against thee shall be as nothing <0369>, and as a thing of nought <0657>.
NRSV - 10 do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. 11 Yes, all who are incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish. 12 You shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all.
TEV - "God's Assurance to Israel" - 8 "But you, Israel my servant, you are the people that I have chosen, the descendants of Abraham, my friend. 9 I brought you from the ends of the earth; I called you from its farthest corners and said to you, "You are my servant.' I did not reject you, but chose you. 10 Do not be afraid -- I am with you! I am your God -- let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you. 11 "Those who are angry with you will know the shame of defeat. Those who fight against you will die 12 and will disappear from the earth. 13 I am the LORD your God; I strengthen you and tell you, "Do not be afraid; I will help you."
KJV w/Strong# - {11} Thine, O LORD <03068>, [is] the greatness <01420>, and the power <01369>, and the glory <08597>, and the victory <05331>, and the majesty <01935>: for all <03605> [that is] in the heaven <08064> and in the earth <0776> [is thine]; thine [is] the kingdom <04467>, O LORD <03068>, and thou art exalted <05375> as head <07218> above all <03605>.
NRSV - 11 Yours, O LORD, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.
TEV - "David Praises God" - 10 There in front of the whole assembly King David praised the LORD. He said, "LORD God of our ancestor Jacob, may you be praised forever and ever! 11 You are great and powerful, glorious, splendid, and majestic. Everything in heaven and earth is yours, and you are king, supreme ruler over all. 12 All riches and wealth come from you; you rule everything by your strength and power; and you are able to make anyone great and strong. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks, and we praise your glorious name.
<B5> Exodus 3
KJV w/Strong# - {1} Now Moses <04872> kept <07462> the flock <06629> of Jethro <03503> his father <02859> in law <02859>, the priest <03548> of Midian <04080>: and he led <05090> the flock <06629> to the backside <0310> of the desert <04057>, and came <0935> to the mountain <02022> of God <0430>, [even] to Horeb <02722>.
{7} And the LORD <03068> said <0559>, I have surely seen <07200> the affliction <06040> of my people <05971> which <0834> [are] in Egypt <04714>, and have heard <08085> their cry <06818> by reason <06440> of their taskmasters <05065>; for I know <03045> their sorrows <04341>;
{10} Come <03212> now <06258> therefore, and I will send <07971> thee unto Pharaoh <06547>, that thou mayest bring <03318> forth <03318> my people <05971> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> out of Egypt <04714>.
NRSV - 1 Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
7 Then the LORD said, "I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings,
10 So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt."
TEV - "God Calls Moses" - 1 One day while Moses was taking care of the sheep and goats of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, he led the flock across the desert and came to Sinai, the holy mountain. 2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him as a flame coming from the middle of a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire but that it was not burning up. 3 "This is strange," he thought. "Why isn't the bush burning up? I will go closer and see." 4 When the LORD saw that Moses was coming closer, he called to him from the middle of the bush and said, "Moses! Moses!" He answered, "Yes, here I am."
7 Then the LORD said, "I have seen how cruelly my people are being treated in Egypt; I have heard them cry out to be rescued from their slave drivers. I know all about their sufferings, 8 and so I have come down to rescue them from the Egyptians and to bring them out of Egypt to a spacious land, one which is rich and fertile and in which the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites now live. 9 I have indeed heard the cry of my people, and I see how the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 Now I am sending you to the king of Egypt so that you can lead my people out of his country." 11 But Moses said to God, "I am nobody. How can I go to the king and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"
KJV w/Strong# - {1} And Moses <04872> answered <06030> and said <0559>, But, behold <02005>, they will not believe <0539> me, nor <03808> hearken <08085> unto my voice <06963>: for they will say <0559>, The LORD <03068> hath not appeared <07200> unto thee. {2} And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto him, What <04100> [is] that in thine hand <03027>? And he said <0559>, A rod <04294>. {3} And he said <0559>, Cast <07993> it on the ground <0776>. And he cast <07993> it on the ground <0776>, and it became <01961> a serpent <05175>; and Moses <04872> fled <05127> from before <06440> it. {4} And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Moses <04872>, Put <07971> forth <07971> thine hand <03027>, and take <0270> it by the tail <02180>. And he put <07971> forth <07971> his hand <03027>, and caught <02388> it, and it became <01961> a rod <04294> in his hand <03709>:
{6} And the LORD <03068> said <0559> furthermore <05750> unto him, Put <0935> now <04994> thine hand <03027> into thy bosom <02436>. And he put <0935> his hand <03027> into his bosom <02436>: and when he took <03318> it out, behold <02009>, his hand <03027> [was] leprous <06879> as snow <07950>. {7} And he said <0559>, Put <07725> thine hand <03027> into <0413> thy bosom <02436> again <07725>. And he put <07725> his hand <03027> into <0413> his bosom <02436> again <07725>; and plucked <03318> it out of his bosom <02436>, and, behold <02009>, it was turned <07725> again <07725> as his [other] flesh <01320>. {8} And it shall come <01961> to pass, if <0518> they will not believe <0539> thee, neither <03808> hearken <08085> to the voice <06963> of the first <07223> sign <0226>, that they will believe <0539> the voice <06963> of the latter <0314> sign <0226>.
NRSV - 1 Then Moses answered, "But suppose they do not believe me or listen to me, but say, "The LORD did not appear to you."' 2 The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A staff." 3 And he said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw the staff on the ground, and it became a snake; and Moses drew back from it. 4 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Reach out your hand, and seize it by the tail" -- so he reached out his hand and grasped it, and it became a staff in his hand --
6 Again, the LORD said to him, "Put your hand inside your cloak." He put his hand into his cloak; and when he took it out, his hand was leprous, as white as snow. 7 Then God said, "Put your hand back into your cloak" -- so he put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored like the rest of his body -- 8 "If they will not believe you or heed the first sign, they may believe the second sign.
TEV - "God Gives Moses Miraculous Power" - 1 Then Moses answered the LORD, "But suppose the Israelites do not believe me and will not listen to what I say. What shall I do if they say that you did not appear to me?" 2 So the LORD asked him, "What are you holding?" "A walking stick," he answered. 3 The LORD said, "Throw it on the ground." When Moses threw it down, it turned into a snake, and he ran away from it. 4 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Reach down and pick it up by the tail." So Moses reached down and caught it, and it became a walking stick again. 5 The LORD said, "Do this to prove to the Israelites that the LORD, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, has appeared to you." 6 The LORD spoke to Moses again, "Put your hand inside your robe." Moses obeyed; and when he took his hand out, it was diseased, covered with white spots, like snow. 7 Then the LORD said, "Put your hand inside your robe again." He did so, and when he took it out this time, it was healthy, just like the rest of his body. 8 The LORD said, "If they will not believe you or be convinced by the first miracle, then this one will convince them. 9 If in spite of these two miracles they still will not believe you, and if they refuse to listen to what you say, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the ground. The water will turn into blood."
<B7> 1 Peter 2
KJV w/Strong# - {11} Dearly beloved <27>, I beseech <3870> [you] as strangers <3941> and pilgrims <3927>, abstain <567> from fleshly <4559> lusts <1939>, which <3748> war <4754> against <2596> the soul <5590>;
NRSV - 11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the desires of the flesh that wage war against the soul.
TEV - "Slaves of God" - 11 I appeal to you, my friends, as strangers and refugees in this world! Do not give in to bodily passions, which are always at war against the soul. 12 Your conduct among the heathen should be so good that when they accuse you of being evildoers, they will have to recognize your good deeds and so praise God on the Day of his coming.
KJV w/Strong# - {8} Be sober <3525>, be vigilant <1127>; because <3754> your <5216> adversary <476> the devil <1228>, as a roaring <5612> lion <3023>, walketh <4043> about <4043>, seeking <2212> whom <5101> he may devour <2666>: {9} Whom <3739> resist <436> stedfast <4731> in the faith <4102>, knowing <1492> that the same <846> afflictions <3804> are accomplished <2005> in your <5216> brethren <81> that are in the world <2889>.
NRSV - 8 Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.
TEV - "The Flock of God" - 8 Be alert, be on watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Be firm in your faith and resist him, because you know that your fellow believers in all the world are going through the same kind of sufferings. 10 But after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who calls you to share his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself perfect you and give you firmness, strength, and a sure foundation. 11 To him be the power forever! Amen.
KJV w/Strong# - {16} [This] I say <3004> then <1161>, Walk <4043> in the Spirit <4151>, and ye shall not fulfil <5055> the lust <1939> of the flesh <4561>. {17} For the flesh <4561> lusteth <1937> against <2596> the Spirit <4151>, and the Spirit <4151> against <2596> the flesh <4561>: and these <5023> are contrary <480> the one <240> to the other <240>: so <2443> that ye cannot <3361> do <4160> the things that ye would <2309>.
{19} Now <1161> the works <2041> of the flesh <4561> are manifest <5318>, which <3748> are [these]; Adultery <3430>, fornication <4202>, uncleanness <167>, lasciviousness <766>, {20} Idolatry <1495>, witchcraft <5331>, hatred <2189>, variance <2054>, emulations <2205>, wrath <2372>, strife <2052>, seditions <1370>, heresies <139>, {21} Envyings <5355>, murders <5408>, drunkenness <3178>, revellings <2970>, and such <5125> like <3664>: of the which <3739> I tell <4302> you before <4302>, as I have also <2532> told <4277> [you] in time past <4302>, that they which do <4238> such <5108> things shall not inherit <2816> the kingdom <932> of God <2316>. {22} But the fruit <2590> of the Spirit <4151> is love <26>, joy <5479>, peace <1515>, longsuffering <3115>, gentleness <5544>, goodness <19>, faith <4102>, {23} Meekness <4236>, temperance <1466>: against <2596> such <5108> there is no <3756> law <3551>.
NRSV - 16 Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want.
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
TEV - "The Spirit and Human Nature" - 16 What I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy the desires of the human nature. 17 For what our human nature wants is opposed to what the Spirit wants, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to what our human nature wants. These two are enemies, and this means that you cannot do what you want to do. 18 If the Spirit leads you, then you are not subject to the Law. 19 What human nature does is quite plain. It shows itself in immoral, filthy, and indecent actions; 20 in worship of idols and witchcraft. People become enemies and they fight; they become jealous, angry, and ambitious. They separate into parties and groups; 21 they are envious, get drunk, have orgies, and do other things like these. I warn you now as I have before: those who do these things will not possess the Kingdom of God. 22 But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 humility, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have put to death their human nature with all its passions and desires. 25 The Spirit has given us life; he must also control our lives. 26 We must not be proud or irritate one another or be jealous of one another.

NRSV - 14 Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country.
TEV - "Jesus Begins His Work in Galilee" - 14 Then Jesus returned to Galilee, and the power of the Holy Spirit was with him. The news about him spread throughout all that territory. 15 He taught in the synagogues and was praised by everyone.
KJV w/Strong# - {38} And, behold <2400>, a man <435> of the company <3793> cried <310> out, saying <3004>, Master <1320>, I beseech <1189> thee, look <1914> upon my son <5207>: for he is mine <3427> only <3439> child <3439>. {39} And, lo <2400>, a spirit <4151> taketh <2983> him, and he suddenly <1810> crieth <2896> out; and it teareth <4682> him that he foameth <876> again <3326>, and bruising <4937> him hardly <3425> departeth <672> from him. {40} And I besought <1189> thy disciples <3101> to cast <1544> him out; and they could <1410> not. {41} And Jesus <2424> answering <611> said <2036>, O faithless <571> and perverse <1294> generation <1074>, how <2193> long <2193> shall I be with you, and suffer <430> you? Bring <4317> thy son <5207> hither <5602>. {42} And as he was yet <2089> a coming <4334>, the devil <1140> threw <4486> him down, and tare <4952> [him]. And Jesus <2424> rebuked <2008> the unclean <169> spirit <4151>, and healed <2390> the child <3816>, and delivered <591> him again <591> to his father <3962>. {43} And they were all <3956> amazed <1605> at <1909> the mighty <3168> power <3168> of God <2316>...
NRSV - 38 Just then a man from the crowd shouted, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son; he is my only child. 39 Suddenly a spirit seizes him, and all at once he shrieks. It convulses him until he foams at the mouth; it mauls him and will scarcely leave him. 40 I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not." 41 Jesus answered, "You faithless and perverse generation, how much longer must I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here." 42 While he was coming, the demon dashed him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. 43 And all were astounded at the greatness of God...
TEV - "Jesus Heals a Boy with an Evil Spirit" - 37 The next day Jesus and the three disciples went down from the hill, and a large crowd met Jesus. 38 A man shouted from the crowd, "Teacher! I beg you, look at my son -- my only son! 39 A spirit attacks him with a sudden shout and throws him into a fit, so that he foams at the mouth; it keeps on hurting him and will hardly let him go! 40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn't." 41 Jesus answered, "How unbelieving and wrong you people are! How long must I stay with you? How long do I have to put up with you?" Then he said to the man, "Bring your son here." 42 As the boy was coming, the demon knocked him to the ground and threw him into a fit. Jesus gave a command to the evil spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. 43 All the people were amazed at the mighty power of God...
<B12> Acts 8
KJV w/Strong# - {5} Then <1161> Philip <5376> went <2718> down <2718> to the city <4172> of Samaria <4540>, and preached <2784> Christ <5547> unto them. {6} And the people <3793> with one <3661> accord <3661> gave <4337> heed <4337> unto those <3588> things which Philip <5376> spake <3004>, hearing <191> and seeing <991> the miracles <4592> which he did <4160>. {7} For unclean <169> spirits <4151>, crying <994> with loud <3173> voice <5456>, came <1831> out of many <4183> that were possessed <2192> [with them]: and many <4183> taken with palsies <3886>, and that were lame <5560>, were healed <2323>. {8} And there was great <3173> joy <5479> in that city <4172>. {9} But there was a certain <5100> man <435>, called <3686> Simon <4613>, which beforetime <4391> in the same city <4172> used <3096> sorcery <3096>, and bewitched <1839> the people <1484> of Samaria <4540>, giving <3004> out that himself <1448> was some <5100> great <3173> one: {10} To whom <3739> they all <3956> gave <4337> heed <4337>, from the least <3398> to the greatest <3173>, saying <3004>, This <3778> man is the great <3173> power <1411> of God <2316>.
{12} But when <3753> they believed <4100> Philip <5376> preaching <2097> the things concerning <4012> the kingdom <932> of God <2316>, and the name <3686> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, they were baptized <907>, both <5037> men <435> and women <1135>. {13} Then <1161> Simon <4613> himself <846> believed <4100> also <2532>: and when he was baptized <907>, he continued <4342> with Philip <5376>, and wondered <1839>, beholding <2334> the miracles <1411> and signs <4592> which were done <1096>.
{18} And when Simon <4613> saw <2300> that through <1223> laying <1936> on <1936> of the apostles <652>' hands <5495> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> was given <1325>, he offered <4374> them money <5536>, {19} Saying <3004>, Give <1325> me also <2504> this <5026> power <1849>, that on <2007> whomsoever <302> I lay <2007> hands <5495>, he may receive <2983> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>. {20} But Peter <4074> said <2036> unto him, Thy money <694> perish <684> with thee, because <3754> thou hast thought <3543> that the gift <1431> of God <2316> may be purchased <2932> with money <5536>. {21} Thou hast <2076> neither <3756> part <3310> nor <3761> lot <2819> in this <5129> matter <3056>: for thy heart <2588> is not right <2117> in the sight <1799> of God <2316>.
NRSV - 5 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. 6 The crowds with one accord listened eagerly to what was said by Philip, hearing and seeing the signs that he did, 7 for unclean spirits, crying with loud shrieks, came out of many who were possessed; and many others who were paralyzed or lame were cured. 8 So there was great joy in that city. 9 Now a certain man named Simon had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he was someone great. 10 All of them, from the least to the greatest, listened to him eagerly, saying, "This man is the power of God that is called Great."
12 But when they believed Philip, who was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Even Simon himself believed. After being baptized, he stayed constantly with Philip and was amazed when he saw the signs and great miracles that took place.
18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, "Give me also this power so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." 20 But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God's gift with money! 21 You have no part or share in this, for your heart is not right before God.
TEV - "The Gospel Is Preached in Samaria" - 4 The believers who were scattered went everywhere, preaching the message. 5 Philip went to the principal city in Samaria and preached the Messiah to the people there. 6 The crowds paid close attention to what Philip said, as they listened to him and saw the miracles that he performed. 7 Evil spirits came out from many people with a loud cry, and many paralyzed and lame people were healed. 8 So there was great joy in that city. 9 A man named Simon lived there, who for some time had astounded the Samaritans with his magic. He claimed that he was someone great, 10 and everyone in the city, from all classes of society, paid close attention to him. "He is that power of God known as "The Great Power," they said. 11 They paid this attention to him because for such a long time he had astonished them with his magic. 12 But when they believed Philip's message about the good news of the Kingdom of God and about Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Simon himself also believed; and after being baptized, he stayed close to Philip and was astounded when he saw the great wonders and miracles that were being performed. 14 The apostles in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had received the word of God, so they sent Peter and John to them. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the believers that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For the Holy Spirit had not yet come down on any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 Simon saw that the Spirit had been given to the believers when the apostles placed their hands on them. So he offered money to Peter and John, 19 and said, "Give this power to me too, so that anyone I place my hands on will receive the Holy Spirit." 20 But Peter answered him, "May you and your money go to hell, for thinking that you can buy God's gift with money! 21 You have no part or share in our work, because your heart is not right in God's sight. 22 Repent, then, of this evil plan of yours, and pray to the Lord that he will forgive you for thinking such a thing as this. 23 For I see that you are full of bitter envy and are a prisoner of sin." 24 Simon said to Peter and John, "Please pray to the Lord for me, so that none of these things you spoke of will happen to me." 25 After they had given their testimony and proclaimed the Lord's message, Peter and John went back to Jerusalem. On their way they preached the Good News in many villages of Samaria.
KJV w/Strong# - {7} Submit <5293> yourselves therefore <3767> to God <2316>. Resist <436> the devil <1228>, and he will flee <5343> from you.
{10} Humble <5013> yourselves in the sight <1799> of the Lord <2962>, and he shall lift <5312> you up.
NRSV - 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
TEV - "Friendship with the World" - 7 So then, submit yourselves to God. Resist the Devil, and he will run away from you. 8 Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners! Purify your hearts, you hypocrites! 9 Be sorrowful, cry, and weep; change your laughter into crying, your joy into gloom! 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
<B14> Ephesians 6
KJV w/Strong# - {10} Finally <3063>, my brethren <80>, be strong <1743> in the Lord <2962>, and in the power> of his might <2479>. {11} Put <1746> on <1746> the whole armour <3833> of God <2316>, that ye may be able <1410> to stand <2476> against <4314> the wiles <3180> of the devil <1228>.
{14} Stand <2476> therefore <3767>, having your <5216> loins <3751> girt <4024> about <4024> with truth <225>, and having <1746> on <1746> the breastplate <2382> of righteousness <1343>; {15} And your <3588> feet <4228> shod <5265> with the preparation <2091> of the gospel <2098> of peace <1515>; {16} Above <1909> all <3956>, taking <353> the shield <2375> of faith <4102>, wherewith <3739> ye shall be able <1410> to quench <4570> all <3956> the fiery <4448> darts <956> of the wicked <4190>. {17} And take <1209> the helmet <4030> of salvation <4992>, and the sword <3162> of the Spirit <4151>, which <3603> is <3603> the word <4487> of God <2316>: {18} Praying <4336> always <2540> with all <3956> prayer <4335> and supplication <1162> in the Spirit <4151>, and watching <69> thereunto <5124> with all <3956> perseverance <4343> and supplication <1162> for all <3956> saints <40>;
NRSV - 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
14 Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. 15 As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. 16 With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.
TEV - "The Whole Armor of God" - 10 Finally, build up your strength in union with the Lord and by means of his mighty power. 11 Put on all the armor that God gives you, so that you will be able to stand up against the Devil's evil tricks. 12 For we are not fighting against human beings but against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age. 13 So put on God's armor now! Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy's attacks; and after fighting to the end, you will still hold your ground. 14 So stand ready, with truth as a belt tight around your waist, with righteousness as your breastplate, 15 and as your shoes the readiness to announce the Good News of peace. 16 At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the Evil One. 17 And accept salvation as a helmet, and the word of God as the sword which the Spirit gives you. 18 Do all this in prayer, asking for God's help. Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads. For this reason keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God's people. 19 And pray also for me, that God will give me a message when I am ready to speak, so that I may speak boldly and make known the gospel's secret.
KJV w/Strong# - {3} For though we walk <4043> in the flesh <4561>, we do not war <4754> after <2596> the flesh <4561>: {4} (For the weapons <3696> of our warfare <4752> [are] not carnal <4559>, but mighty <1415> through God <2316> to the pulling <2506> down <2506> of strong <3794> holds <3794>;) {5} Casting <2507> down <2504> imaginations <3053>, and every <3956> high <5313> thing <5313> that exalteth <1869> itself against <2596> the knowledge <1108> of God <2316>, and bringing <163> into captivity <163> every <3956> thought <3540> to the obedience <5218> of Christ <5547>;
NRSV - 3 Indeed, we live as human beings, but we do not wage war according to human standards; 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments 5 and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.
TEV - "Paul Defends His Ministry" - 1 I, Paul, make a personal appeal to you -- I who am said to be meek and mild when I am with you, but harsh with you when I am away. By the gentleness and kindness of Christ 2 I beg you not to force me to be harsh when I come; for I am sure I can deal harshly with those who say that we act from worldly motives. 3 It is true that we live in the world, but we do not fight from worldly motives. 4 The weapons we use in our fight are not the world's weapons but God's powerful weapons, which we use to destroy strongholds. We destroy false arguments; 5 we pull down every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey Christ. 6 And after you have proved your complete loyalty, we will be ready to punish any act of disloyalty.
