KJV - 8 I am become rich, I have found me out substance:
ESV - 8 ...I am rich; I have found wealth for myself;...
TEV - "Further Words of Judgment" - 7 The LORD says, "The people of Israel are as dishonest as the Canaanites; they love to cheat their customers with false scales. 8 "We are rich,' they say. "We've made a fortune. And no one can accuse us of getting rich dishonestly.' 9 But I, the LORD your God who led you out of Egypt, I will make you live in tents again, as you did when I came to you in the desert. 10 "I spoke to the prophets and gave them many visions, and through the prophets I gave my people warnings. 11 Yet idols are worshiped in Gilead, and those who worship them will die. Bulls are sacrificed in Gilgal, and the altars there will become piles of stone in the open fields."
Ephraim, a designation for the Northern Kingdom deriving from the name of a prominent Israelite tribe, is accused of lies and deceit, specifically by establishing alliances with Assyria and Egypt (11:12-12:1). The concluding lines of 11:12 probably come from a Judean editor. As in 4:1-3 and 4:4-10, Yahweh initiates a lawsuit against his people (12:2-6). The indictment reaches into antiquity, citing the traditions about Israels ancestor, Jacob. Hosea presumes that his hearers know the story of the birth of Jacob and his brother Esau (Gen. 25:21-26), his nocturnal struggle with God at the Jabbok, at which time he received the name Israel (Gen. 32:22-32), and his dream at Bethel (Gen. 28:11-17). Surprisingly, the lawsuit includes admonitions to return to God (Hos. 11:6). Verses 7-9 accuse Israel of two violations, crooked business practices and arrogance. Yahweh recalls the Exodus and threatens to return Israel to its status before it occupied the land (v. 9).
It becomes evident in v 8 [v 7] that Hosea used the ancient exhortation (v 7 [v 6]) especially to disclose Israel's present guilt, much like 10:12. Kenaan [merchant, Canaan] denotes nothing other than contemporary Ephraim, which is filled with a Canaanite spirit of harlotry and commerce. For ancient Israel, trade belonged to foreigners. The commercial cities of Phoenicia, whose region was especially designated by the word "Canaan," the land of red purple, were centers of trade. The "false scales" ... are almost proverbial in prophecy and Wisdom. Thus the world "deception" ... from v 1a appears again; there, as in v 8 [v 7], it has to do with the "oppression" of the neighbor.
Verses 7-9 accuse Israel of two violations, crooked business practices and arrogance.
By quoting the defendant [Ephraim], the prophet offers proof of guilt with the words from the defendant's own mouth. The quotation further develops the accusation. Wealth led to injustice just as injustice led to wealth. It was this same wealth ... which had once led Jacob to struggle against God; his unjust service that had made him rich (cf. v 13 [v 12]). But Ephraim denies that there has been any injustice... This transgression is unequivocally sin against Yahweh. Ephraim's economic gains are in conflict with his trust in Yahweh and Yahweh's requirement of loyalty in the community (v 7[v6]). His wealth enables him to make treaties which betray the divine word uttered by the prophet (v 2 [v 1]). The quotation in v 9 [v 8] on the whole suggests how the prophet's rejection (v 1 a), which he laments as "betrayal" and self-deception, is to be understood.

ESV - 1 Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight,
TEV - "The Benefits of Wisdom" - 1 Sons, listen to what your father teaches you. Pay attention, and you will have understanding. 2 What I am teaching you is good, so remember it all. 3 When I was only a little boy, my parents' only son, 4 my father would teach me. He would say, "Remember what I say and never forget it. Do as I tell you, and you will live. 5 Get wisdom and insight! Do not forget or ignore what I say. 6 Do not abandon wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will keep you safe. 7 Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do. Whatever else you get, get insight. 8 Love wisdom, and she will make you great. Embrace her, and she will bring you honor. 9 She will be your crowning glory."

KJV - 1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things;
14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. 15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. 19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. 20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: 21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures. 22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
32 Now therefore hearken
unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
ESV - 1 Does not wisdom call?Does not understanding raise her voice?
6 Hear, for I will speak noble things,...
14 I have counsel and sound wisdom; I have insight; I have strength. 15 By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just;
18 Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness. 19 My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold, and my yield than choice silver. 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, in the paths of justice, 21 granting an inheritance to those who love me, and filling their treasuries. 22 "The LORD possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old.
30 then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always,
32 "And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways.
TEV - "In Praise of Wisdom" - 1 Listen! Wisdom is calling out. Reason is making herself heard. 2 On the hilltops near the road and at the crossroads she stands. 3 At the entrance to the city, beside the gates, she calls: 4 "I appeal to you, mankind; I call to everyone on earth. 5 Are you immature? Learn to be mature. Are you foolish? Learn to have sense. 6 Listen to my excellent words; all I tell you is right.
11 "I am Wisdom, I am better than jewels; nothing you want can compare with me. 12 I am Wisdom, and I have insight; I have knowledge and sound judgment. 13 To honor the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil ways and false words. 14 I make plans and carry them out. I have understanding, and I am strong. 15 I help kings to govern and rulers to make good laws. 16 Every ruler on earth governs with my help, statesmen and noblemen alike. 17 I love those who love me; whoever looks for me can find me. 18 I have riches and honor to give, prosperity and success. 19 What you get from me is better than the finest gold, better than the purest silver. 20 I walk the way of righteousness; I follow the paths of justice, 21 giving wealth to those who love me, filling their houses with treasures. 22 "The LORD created me first of all, the first of his works, long ago. 23 I was made in the very beginning, at the first, before the world began. 24 I was born before the oceans, when there were no springs of water. 25 I was born before the mountains, before the hills were set in place, 26 before God made the earth and its fields or even the first handful of soil. 27 I was there when he set the sky in place, when he stretched the horizon across the ocean, 28 when he placed the clouds in the sky, when he opened the springs of the ocean 29 and ordered the waters of the sea to rise no further than he said. I was there when he laid the earth's foundations. 30 I was beside him like an architect, I was his daily source of joy, always happy in his presence -- 31 happy with the world and pleased with the human race. 32 "Now, young men, listen to me. Do as I say, and you will be happy. 33 Listen to what you are taught. Be wise; do not neglect it. 34 The man who listens to me will be happy -- the man who stays at my door every day, waiting at the entrance to my home. 35 The man who finds me finds life, and the LORD will be pleased with him. 36 The man who does not find me hurts himself; anyone who hates me loves death."
[17-21] ...As for the gifts which she [Wisdom] bestows or bequeathes (lehanhil, v. 21), these include material prosperity, which, however, as in vv. 10f, is distinguished from vulgar opulence. The fruit of Wisdom is better than gold and her produce better than silver. What she offers is wealth or property (yes, v. 21) with kabod and sedaqa. This is not meretricious or speculative wealth; it is located in a framework of values and is an ingredient of a way of life which bestows gravitas and social wholeness. Hence wealth with kabod is solid wealth or wealth with a basis in a traditional evaluation of what constitutes the good life (hon 'ateq, v. 18). The paradox is that when wealth is the chief end of life it corrupts, whereas when it is subordinated to wisdom it may be enjoyed as an aspect of welfare and honour... What Wisdom gives essentially is a way of life which possesses ethical fitness and equity (v. 20).

KJV - 33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
36 For of him, and through
him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever
ESV - 33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever...
TEV - "Praise to God" - 33 How great are God's riches! How deep are his wisdom and knowledge! Who can explain his decisions? Who can understand his ways? 34 As the scripture says, "Who knows the mind of the Lord? Who is able to give him advice? 35 Who has ever given him anything, so that he had to pay it back?" 36 For all things were created by him, and all things exist through him and for him. To God be the glory forever! Amen.

ESV - 5 How great are your works, O LORD! Your thoughts are very deep!
TEV - "A Song of Praise" - 5 How great are your actions, LORD! How deep are your thoughts! 6 This is something a fool cannot know; a stupid man cannot understand: 7 the wicked may grow like weeds, those who do wrong may prosper; yet they will be totally destroyed, 8 because you, LORD, are supreme forever. 9 We know that your enemies will die, and all the wicked will be defeated. 10 You have made me as strong as a wild ox; you have blessed me with happiness. 11 I have seen the defeat of my enemies and heard the cries of the wicked.

KJV - 15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
17 For thou art the
glory of their strength:
ESV - 15 Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face,
17 For you are the glory of their strength;...
TEV - "A Hymn in Time of National Trouble" - 15 How happy are the people who worship you with songs, who live in the light of your kindness! 16 Because of you they rejoice all day long, and they praise you for your goodness. 17 You give us great victories; in your love you make us triumphant. 18 You, O LORD, chose our protector; you, the Holy God of Israel, gave us our king.
On this verse A.A. Anderson (Psalms, Volume 2 of 2, New Century Bible Commentary, London: Oliphants, 1972, page 638) comments,
The Hebrew teruah ('festal shout') is the noise of shouting, or the noise created by the musical instruments... In this context teruah is the response of the people; they know not only what to shout... but they have also experienced the significance of the acclamation. They praise Yahweh [Jehovah, the Lord], not simply because it is the right thing to do, but because they are overwhelmed by his goodness and majesty."
Robert G. Bratcher and William D. Reyburn (A Handbook on Psalms, New York: United Bible Societies, 1991, page 776.) comment:
In verse 15a we are not sure exactly how the festal shout was expressed in Temple worship, but it certainly involved praise. The same term is used for the shout of the Israelites when the walls of Jericho fell, so it may have implied victory (Josh 6.20). It seems best to express the function of the words 'know the festal shout' as 'know how to sing praises to you,' 'know how to praise you with song.'

- 20 For the invisible things [attributes] of him from
the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood [or

[divine nature or deity];
ESV - 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made...
TEV - "The Guilt of Mankind" - 18 God's anger is revealed from heaven against all the sin and evil of the people whose evil ways prevent the truth from being known. 19 God punishes them, because what can be known about God is plain to them, for God himself made it plain. 20 Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things that God has made. So those people have no excuse at all! 21 They know God, but they do not give him the honor that belongs to him, nor do they thank him. Instead, their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness.

TEV - "The Great Commandment" - 28 A teacher of the Law was there who heard the discussion. He saw that Jesus had given the Sadducees a good answer, so he came to him with a question: "Which commandment is the most important of all?" 29 Jesus replied, "The most important one is this: "Listen, Israel! The Lord our God is the only Lord. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' 31 The second most important commandment is this: "Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' KJV - 1 David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the Lord God. 2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood;
9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy. 10 Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. 11 Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine;
13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. 14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
16 O Lord our God,
all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy
name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own. 17 I know also, my God,
that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me,
in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things:
and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer
willingly unto thee.
ESV - 1 ...David the king said to all the assembly, "Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for the palace will not be for man but for the LORD God. 2 So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able, the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood,...
9 Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the LORD. David the king also rejoiced greatly. 10 Therefore David blessed the LORD in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: "Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. 11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours...
13 And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name. 14 "But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.
16 O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you.
TEV - "Gifts for Building the Temple" - 1 King David announced to the whole assembly: "My son Solomon is the one whom God has chosen, but he is still young and lacks experience. The work to be done is tremendous, because this is not a palace for men but a temple for the LORD God. 2 I have made every effort to prepare materials for the Temple -- gold, silver, bronze, iron, timber, precious stones and gems, stones for mosaics, and quantities of marble. 3 Over and above all this that I have provided, I have given silver and gold from my personal property because of my love for God's Temple. 4 I have given 115 tons of the finest gold and 265 tons of pure silver for decorating the walls of the Temple 5 and for all the objects which the craftsmen are to make. Now who else is willing to give a generous offering to the LORD?" 6 Then the heads of the clans, the officials of the tribes, the commanders of the army, and the administrators of the royal property volunteered to give 7 the following for the work on the Temple: 190 tons of gold, 380 tons of silver, 675 tons of bronze, and 3,750 tons of iron. 8 Those who had precious stones gave them to the Temple treasury, which was administered by Jehiel of the Levite clan of Gershon. 9 The people had given willingly to the LORD, and they were happy that so much had been given. King David also was extremely happy.
"David Praises God" - 10 There in front of the whole assembly King David praised the LORD. He said, "LORD God of our ancestor Jacob, may you be praised forever and ever! 11 You are great and powerful, glorious, splendid, and majestic. Everything in heaven and earth is yours, and you are king, supreme ruler over all. 12 All riches and wealth come from you; you rule everything by your strength and power; and you are able to make anyone great and strong. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks, and we praise your glorious name. 14 "Yet my people and I cannot really give you anything, because everything is a gift from you, and we have only given back what is yours already. 15 You know, O LORD, that we pass through life like exiles and strangers, as our ancestors did. Our days are like a passing shadow, and we cannot escape death. 16 O LORD, our God, we have brought together all this wealth to build a temple to honor your holy name, but it all came from you and all belongs to you. 17 I know that you test everyone's heart and are pleased with people of integrity. In honesty and sincerity I have willingly given all this to you, and I have seen how your people who are gathered here have been happy to bring offerings to you.

KJV - 1 And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.
8 And Solomon said
unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made
me to reign in his stead. 9 Now, O Lord God, let thy promise unto David
my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like
the dust of the earth in multitude. 10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge,
that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this
thy people, that is so great? 11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was
in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the
life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked
wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over
whom I have made thee king: 12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee;
ESV - 1 Solomon the son of David established himself in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.
8 And Solomon said to God, "You have shown great and steadfast love to David my father, and have made me king in his place. 9 O LORD God, let your word to David my father be now fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?" 11 God answered Solomon, "Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked long life, but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may govern my people over whom I have made you king, 12 wisdom and knowledge are granted to you...
TEV - "King Solomon Prays for Wisdom" - 1 Solomon, the son of King David, took firm control of the kingdom of Israel, and the LORD his God blessed him and made him very powerful.
7 That night God appeared to Solomon and asked, "What would you like me to give you?" 8 Solomon answered, "You always showed great love for my father David, and now you have let me succeed him as king. 9 O LORD God, fulfill the promise you made to my father. You have made me king over a people who are so many that they cannot be counted, 10 so give me the wisdom and knowledge I need to rule over them. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?" 11 God replied to Solomon, "You have made the right choice. Instead of asking for wealth or treasure or fame or the death of your enemies or even for long life for yourself, you have asked for wisdom and knowledge so that you can rule my people, over whom I have made you king. 12 I will give you wisdom and knowledge. And in addition, I will give you more wealth, treasure, and fame than any king has ever had before or will ever have again."

KJV - 29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. 30 And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
32 And he spake three
thousand proverbs:
ESV - 29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore, 30 so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.

TEV - "Solomon's Prosperous Reign" - 29 God gave Solomon unusual wisdom and insight, and knowledge too great to be measured. 30 Solomon was wiser than the wise men of the East or the wise men of Egypt. 31 He was the wisest of all men: wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol, and his fame spread throughout all the neighboring countries. 32 He composed three thousand proverbs and more than a thousand songs. 33 He spoke of trees and plants, from the Lebanon cedars to the hyssop that grows on walls; he talked about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish. 34 Kings all over the world heard of his wisdom and sent people to listen to him.

8 Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching,
TEV - "The Value of Proverbs" - 1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David and king of Israel. 2 Here are proverbs that will help you recognize wisdom and good advice, and understand sayings with deep meaning. 3 They can teach you how to live intelligently and how to be honest, just, and fair. 4 They can make an inexperienced person clever and teach young men how to be resourceful. 5 These proverbs can even add to the knowledge of wise men and give guidance to the educated, 6 so that they can understand the hidden meanings of proverbs and the problems that wise men raise.
"Advice to Young Men" - 7 To have knowledge, you must first have reverence for the LORD. Stupid people have no respect for wisdom and refuse to learn. 8 Son, pay attention to what your father and mother tell you. 9 Their teaching will improve your character as a handsome turban or a necklace improves your appearance.

KJV - 1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. 2 And Solomon told her all her questions: and there was nothing hid from Solomon which he told her not.
5 And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom: 6 Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard. 7 Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom. 8 Blessed be the Lord thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the Lord thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.
23 And all the kings
of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God
had put in his heart.
ESV - 1 Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to Jerusalem to test him with hard questions, having a very great retinue and camels bearing spices and very much gold and precious stones. And when she came to Solomon, she told him all that was on her mind. 2 And Solomon answered all her questions. There was nothing hidden from Solomon that he could not explain to her.
5 And she said to the king, "The report was true that I heard in my own land of your words and of your wisdom, 6 but I did not believe the reports until I came and my own eyes had seen it. And behold, half the greatness of your wisdom was not told me; you surpass the report that I heard. 7 Happy are your wives! Happy are these your servants, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! 8 Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you and set you on his throne as king for the LORD your God! Because your God loved Israel and would establish them forever, he has made you king over them, that you may execute justice and righteousness."
23 And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put into his mind
TEV - "The Visit of the Queen of Sheba" - 1 The queen of Sheba heard of King Solomon's fame, and she traveled to Jerusalem to test him with difficult questions. She brought with her a large group of attendants, as well as camels loaded with spices, jewels, and a large amount of gold. When she and Solomon met, she asked him all the questions that she could think of. 2 He answered them all; there was nothing too difficult for him to explain. 3 The queen of Sheba heard Solomon's wisdom and saw the palace he had built. 4 She saw the food that was served at his table, the living quarters for his officials, the organization of his palace staff and the uniforms they wore, the clothing of the servants who waited on him at feasts, and the sacrifices he offered in the Temple. It left her breathless and amazed. 5 She said to the king, "What I heard in my own country about you and your wisdom is true! 6 I did not believe what they told me until I came and saw for myself. I had not heard of even half your wisdom. You are even wiser than people say. 7 How fortunate are the men who serve you, who are always in your presence and are privileged to hear your wise sayings! 8 Praise the LORD your God! He has shown how pleased he is with you by making you king, to rule in his name. Because he loves his people Israel and wants to preserve them forever, he has made you their king so that you can maintain law and justice." 9 King Solomon's Wealth
20 All of King Solomon's drinking cups were made of gold, and all the utensils in the Hall of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. Silver was not considered valuable in Solomon's day. 21 He had a fleet of ocean-going ships sailing with King Hiram's fleet. Every three years his fleet would return, bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys. 22 King Solomon was richer and wiser than any other king in the world. 23 They all consulted him, to hear the wisdom that God had given him. 24 Each of them brought Solomon gifts -- articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons, spices, horses, and mules. This continued year after year.

TEV - "Jairus' Daughter and the Woman Who Touched Jesus' Cloak" - 40 When Jesus returned to the other side of the lake, the people welcomed him, because they had all been waiting for him. 41 Then a man named Jairus arrived; he was an official in the local synagogue. He threw himself down at Jesus' feet and begged him to go to his home, 42 because his only daughter, who was twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus went along, the people were crowding him from every side.

KJV - 13 And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. 16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee:
22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. 23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
32 Fear not, little
flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33
Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not
old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth,
neither moth corrupteth. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your
heart be also.
ESV - 13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
15 And he said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." 16 And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' 18 And he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' 20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you,...
22 And he said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
32 "Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
TEV - "The Parable of the Rich Fool" - 13 A man in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide with me the property our father left us." 14 Jesus answered him, "Man, who gave me the right to judge or to divide the property between you two?" 15 And he went on to say to them all, "Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because a person's true life is not made up of the things he owns, no matter how rich he may be." 16 Then Jesus told them this parable: "There was once a rich man who had land which bore good crops. 17 He began to think to himself, "I don't have a place to keep all my crops. What can I do? 18 This is what I will do,' he told himself; "I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, where I will store the grain and all my other goods. 19 Then I will say to myself, Lucky man! You have all the good things you need for many years. Take life easy, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself!' 20 But God said to him, "You fool! This very night you will have to give up your life; then who will get all these things you have kept for yourself?" 21 And Jesus concluded, "This is how it is with those who pile up riches for themselves but are not rich in God's sight." 22 Then Jesus said to the disciples, "And so I tell you not to worry about the food you need to stay alive or about the clothes you need for your body. 23 Life is much more important than food, and the body much more important than clothes. 24 Look at the crows: they don't plant seeds or gather a harvest; they don't have storage rooms or barns; God feeds them! You are worth so much more than birds!
"Riches in Heaven" - 32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom. 33 Sell all your belongings and give the money to the poor. Provide for yourselves purses that don't wear out, and save your riches in heaven, where they will never decrease, because no thief can get to them, and no moth can destroy them. 34 For your heart will always be where your riches are.

Tell us the plain truth: are you the Messiah?" 25 Jesus answered, "I have already told you, but you would not believe me. - 14
I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
16 That he would grant
you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might
by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts
by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to
comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and
height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that
ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
ESV - 14 ...I bow my knees before the Father,
16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith- that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
TEV - "The Love of Christ" - 14 For this reason I fall on my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its true name. 16 I ask God from the wealth of his glory to give you power through his Spirit to be strong in your inner selves, 17 and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love, 18 so that you, together with all God's people, may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ's love. 19 Yes, may you come to know his love -- although it can never be fully known -- and so be completely filled with the very nature of God.

King James Version (KJV) -- Almost all of today's printed and electronic editions of the KJV are based upon Dr. Benjamin Blayney's 1769 revision of the KJV, which like many of its KJV-revision predecessors, does not include the Apocrypha and the marginal notes that were in the original 1611 edition of the KJV. Spelling and punctuation also are quite different from the 1611 edition. Even in today's editions of the KJV, there remain some punctuation and spelling differences among major publishers.
