KJV - 45 the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
NRSV - 45 ...the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many."
TEV - "The Request of James and John" - 41 When the other ten disciples heard about it, they became angry with James and John. 42 So Jesus called them all together to him and said, "You know that the men who are considered rulers of the heathen have power over them, and the leaders have complete authority. 43 This, however, is not the way it is among you. If one of you wants to be great, he must be the servant of the rest; 44 and if one of you wants to be first, he must be the slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people."

21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
24 Who his own self
bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins,
should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 25 For
ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and
Bishop of your souls.
NRSV - 9 ...you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the desires of the flesh that wage war against the soul. 12 Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that, though they malign you as evildoers, they may see your honorable deeds and glorify God when he comes to judge.
21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps.
24 He himself bore our sins
in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness;
by his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were going astray like sheep,
but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.
TEV - "The Living Stone and the Holy Nation" - 9 But you are the chosen race, the King's priests, the holy nation, God's own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his own marvelous light. 10 At one time you were not God's people, but now you are his people; at one time you did not know God's mercy, but now you have received his mercy.
"Slaves of God" - 11 I appeal to you, my friends, as strangers and refugees in this world! Do not give in to bodily passions, which are always at war against the soul. 12 Your conduct among the heathen should be so good that when they accuse you of being evildoers, they will have to recognize your good deeds and so praise God on the Day of his coming.
"The Example of Christ's Suffering" - 18 You servants must submit yourselves to your masters and show them complete respect, not only to those who are kind and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19 God will bless you for this, if you endure the pain of undeserved suffering because you are conscious of his will. 20 For what credit is there if you endure the beatings you deserve for having done wrong? But if you endure suffering even when you have done right, God will bless you for it. 21 It was to this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered for you and left you an example, so that you would follow in his steps. 22 He committed no sin, and no one ever heard a lie come from his lips. 23 When he was insulted, he did not answer back with an insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but placed his hopes in God, the righteous Judge. 24 Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed. 25 You were like sheep that had lost their way, but now you have been brought back to follow the Shepherd and Keeper of your souls.

KJV - 7 Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
19 Because that which may
be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
NRSV - 7 ...Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith,...
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, "The one who is righteous will live by faith."
19 For what can be known
about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
TEV - "Greeting" - 7 And so I write to all of you in Rome whom God loves and has called to be his own people: May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.
"The Power of the Gospel" - 16 I have complete confidence in the gospel; it is God's power to save all who believe, first the Jews and also the Gentiles. 17 For the gospel reveals how God puts people right with himself: it is through faith from beginning to end. As the scripture says, "The person who is put right with God through faith shall live."
"The Guilt of Mankind" - 18 God's anger is revealed from heaven against all the sin and evil of the people whose evil ways prevent the truth from being known. 19 God punishes them, because what can be known about God is plain to them, for God himself made it plain. 20 Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things that God has made. So those people have no excuse at all! 21 They know God, but they do not give him the honor that belongs to him, nor do they thank him. Instead, their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness.
B2 - Mar 1 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
28 And immediately his
fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee. 29 And forthwith,
when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon
and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of
a fever, and anon they tell him of her. 31 And he came and took her by the
hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered
unto them.
NRSV - 14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news."
28 At once his fame began
to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee. 29 As soon as they
left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James
and John. 30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told
him about her at once. 31 He came and took her by the hand and lifted her
up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
TEV - "Jesus Calls Four Fishermen" - 14 After John had been put in prison, Jesus went to Galilee and preached the Good News from God. 15 "The right time has come," he said, "and the Kingdom of God is near! Turn away from your sins and believe the Good News!" 16 As Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two fishermen, Simon and his brother Andrew, catching fish with a net. 17 Jesus said to them, "Come with me, and I will teach you to catch men." 18 At once they left their nets and went with him.
"A Man with an Evil Spirit" - 25 Jesus ordered the spirit, "Be quiet, and come out of the man!" 26 The evil spirit shook the man hard, gave a loud scream, and came out of him. 27 The people were all so amazed that they started saying to one another, "What is this? Is it some kind of new teaching? This man has authority to give orders to the evil spirits, and they obey him!" 28 And so the news about Jesus spread quickly everywhere in the province of Galilee.
"Jesus Heals Many People" - 29 Jesus and his disciples, including James and John, left the synagogue and went straight to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and as soon as Jesus arrived, he was told about her. 31 He went to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to wait on them. 32 After the sun had set and evening had come, people brought to Jesus all the sick and those who had demons. 33 All the people of the town gathered in front of the house. 34 Jesus healed many who were sick with all kinds of diseases and drove out many demons. He would not let the demons say anything, because they knew who he was.
B3 - Joh 10 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. 24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
29 My Father, which
gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out
of my Father's hand. 30 I and my Father are one.
NRSV - 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon. 24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly." 25 Jesus answered, "I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name testify to me;
27 My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me.
29 What my Father has
given me is greater than all else, and no one can snatch it out of the Father's
hand. 30 The Father and I are one."
TEV - "Jesus Is Rejected" - 22 It was winter, and the Festival of the Dedication of the Temple was being celebrated in Jerusalem. 23 Jesus was walking in Solomon's Porch in the Temple, 24 when the people gathered around him and asked, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense? Tell us the plain truth: are you the Messiah?" 25 Jesus answered, "I have already told you, but you would not believe me. The deeds I do by my Father's authority speak on my behalf; 26 but you will not believe, for you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never die. No one can snatch them away from me. 29 What my Father has given me is greater than everything, and no one can snatch them away from the Father's care. 30 The Father and I are one."

B4 - Psa 50 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 1 The mighty God, even the Lord, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
23 Whoso offereth praise
glorifieth me:
NRSV - 1 The mighty one, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.
5 "Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!"
8 Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt offerings are continually before me.
23 Those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honor me;...
TEV - "True Worship" - 1 The Almighty God, the LORD, speaks; he calls to the whole earth from east to west. 2 God shines from Zion, the city perfect in its beauty. 3 Our God is coming, but not in silence; a raging fire is in front of him, a furious storm around him. 4 He calls heaven and earth as witnesses to see him judge his people. 5 He says, "Gather my faithful people to me, those who made a covenant with me by offering a sacrifice." 6 The heavens proclaim that God is righteous, that he himself is judge. 7 "Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel. I am God, your God. 8 I do not reprimand you because of your sacrifices and the burnt offerings you always bring me. 9 And yet I do not need bulls from your farms or goats from your flocks; 10 all the animals in the forest are mine and the cattle on thousands of hills. 11 All the wild birds are mine and all living things in the fields.
22 "Listen to this, you that ignore me, or I will destroy you, and there will be no one to save you. 23 Giving thanks is the sacrifice that honors me, and I will surely save all who obey me."
B5 - 1Ch 6 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 49 Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt offering, and on the altar of incense, and were appointed for all the work of the place most holy, and to make an atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
NRSV - 49 ...Aaron and his sons made offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense, doing all the work of the most holy place, to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
TEV - "The Descendants of Aaron" - 49 Aaron and his descendants presented the offerings of incense and offered the sacrifices that were burnt on the altar. They were responsible for all the worship in the Most Holy Place and for the sacrifices by which God forgives Israel's sins. They did all this in accordance with the instructions given by Moses, God's servant. 50 This is the line of Aaron's descendants: Eleazar, Phinehas, Abishua, 51 Bukki, Uzzi, Zerahiah, 52 Meraioth, Amariah, Ahitub, 53 Zadok, Ahimaaz.
B6 - Joh 1 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
NRSV - 17 The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
TEV - "The Word of Life" - 14 The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father's only Son. 15 John spoke about him. He cried out, "This is the one I was talking about when I said, "He comes after me, but he is greater than I am, because he existed before I was born." 16 Out of the fullness of his grace he has blessed us all, giving us one blessing after another. 17 God gave the Law through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is the same as God and is at the Father's side, he has made him known.
B7 - Mat 14 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
NRSV - 14 When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick.
TEV - "Jesus Feeds Five Thousand Men" - 13 When Jesus heard the news about John, he left there in a boat and went to a lonely place by himself. The people heard about it, and so they left their towns and followed him by land. 14 Jesus got out of the boat, and when he saw the large crowd, his heart was filled with pity for them, and he healed their sick. 15 That evening his disciples came to him and said, "It is already very late, and this is a lonely place. Send the people away and let them go to the villages to buy food for themselves." 16 "They don't have to leave," answered Jesus. "You yourselves give them something to eat!" 17 "All we have here are five loaves and two fish," they replied.
B8 - Joh 5 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 1 there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.
36 But I have greater
witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me
to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father
hath sent me.
NRSV - 1 ...there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
19 Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise.
30 "I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
33 You sent messengers to John, and he testified to the truth.
36 But I have a testimony
greater than John's. The works that the Father has given me to complete,
the very works that I am doing, testify on my behalf that the Father has
sent me.
TEV - "The Healing at the Pool" - 1 After this, Jesus went to Jerusalem for a religious festival. 2 Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there is a pool with five porches; in Hebrew it is called Bethzatha.
"The Authority of the Son" - 19 So Jesus answered them, "I tell you the truth: the Son can do nothing on his own; he does only what he sees his Father doing. What the Father does, the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. He will show him even greater things to do than this, and you will all be amazed. 21 Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, in the same way the Son gives life to those he wants to. 22 Nor does the Father himself judge anyone. He has given his Son the full right to judge, 23 so that all will honor the Son in the same way as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
"Witnesses to Jesus" - 30 "I can do nothing on my own authority; I judge only as God tells me, so my judgment is right, because I am not trying to do what I want, but only what he who sent me wants. 31 "If I testify on my own behalf, what I say is not to be accepted as real proof. 32 But there is someone else who testifies on my behalf, and I know that what he says about me is true. 33 John is the one to whom you sent your messengers, and he spoke on behalf of the truth. 34 It is not that I must have a man's witness; I say this only in order that you may be saved. 35 John was like a lamp, burning and shining, and you were willing for a while to enjoy his light. 36 But I have a witness on my behalf which is even greater than the witness that John gave: what I do, that is, the deeds my Father gave me to do, these speak on my behalf and show that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father, who sent me, also testifies on my behalf. You have never heard his voice or seen his face, 38 and you do not keep his message in your hearts, for you do not believe in the one whom he sent. 39 You study the Scriptures, because you think that in them you will find eternal life. And these very Scriptures speak about me! 40 Yet you are not willing to come to me in order to have life.

KJV - 1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. 2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
10 And the apostles,
when they were returned, told him all that they had done
NRSV - 1 Then Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
10 On their return the
apostles told Jesus all they had done...
TEV - "Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Disciples" - 1 Jesus called the twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases. 2 Then he sent them out to preach the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick, 3 after saying to them, "Take nothing with you for the trip: no walking stick, no beggar's bag, no food, no money, not even an extra shirt. 4 Wherever you are welcomed, stay in the same house until you leave that town; 5 wherever people don't welcome you, leave that town and shake the dust off your feet as a warning to them." 6 The disciples left and traveled through all the villages, preaching the Good News and healing people everywhere.
"Jesus Feeds Five Thousand Men" - 10 The apostles came back and told Jesus everything they had done. He took them with him, and they went off by themselves to a town named Bethsaida. 11 When the crowds heard about it, they followed him. He welcomed them, spoke to them about the Kingdom of God, and healed those who needed it. 12 When the sun was beginning to set, the twelve disciples came to him and said, "Send the people away so that they can go to the villages and farms around here and find food and lodging, because this is a lonely place."

KJV - 34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
NRSV - 34 He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
TEV - "Jesus Speaks about His Suffering and Death" - 34 Then Jesus called the crowd and his disciples to him. "If anyone wants to come with me," he told them, "he must forget himself, carry his cross, and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save his own life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 Does a person gain anything if he wins the whole world but loses his life? Of course not! 37 There is nothing he can give to regain his life. 38 If a person is ashamed of me and of my teaching in this godless and wicked day, then the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
B11 - Joh 14 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
NRSV - 12 Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
TEV - "Jesus the Way to the Father" - 9 Jesus answered, "For a long time I have been with you all; yet you do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Why, then, do you say, "Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe, Philip, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I have spoken to you," Jesus said to his disciples, "do not come from me. The Father, who remains in me, does his own work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. If not, believe because of the things I do. 12 I am telling you the truth: whoever believes in me will do what I do -- yes, he will do even greater things, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask for in my name, so that the Father's glory will be shown through the Son. 14 If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.

KJV - 21 Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.
NRSV - 21 Bless the LORD, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will.
TEV - "The Love of God" - 19 The LORD placed his throne in heaven; he is king over all. 20 Praise the LORD, you strong and mighty angels, who obey his commands, who listen to what he says. 21 Praise the LORD, all you heavenly powers, you servants of his, who do his will! 22 Praise the LORD, all his creatures in all the places he rules. KJV - 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
NRSV - 1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God -- what is good and acceptable and perfect.
TEV - "Life in God's Service" - 1 So then, my brothers, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer. 2 Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God -- what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.

KJV - 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
NRSV - 11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, 12 training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope and the manifestation of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. 14 He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.
TEV - "Sound Doctrine" - 11 For God has revealed his grace for the salvation of all mankind. 12 That grace instructs us to give up ungodly living and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this world, 13 as we wait for the blessed Day we hope for, when the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ will appear. 14 He gave himself for us, to rescue us from all wickedness and to make us a pure people who belong to him alone and are eager to do good. 15 Teach these things and use your full authority as you encourage and rebuke your hearers. Let none of them look down on you.

KJV - 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
10 Humble yourselves
in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
NRSV - 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
10 Humble yourselves
before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
TEV - "Friendship with the World" - 7 So then, submit yourselves to God. Resist the Devil, and he will run away from you. 8 Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners! Purify your hearts, you hypocrites! 9 Be sorrowful, cry, and weep; change your laughter into crying, your joy into gloom! 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

KJV - 5 there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
NRSV - 5 ...there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human,
TEV - "Church Worship" - 1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, requests, and thanksgivings be offered to God for all people; 2 for kings and all others who are in authority, that we may live a quiet and peaceful life with all reverence toward God and with proper conduct. 3 This is good and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to know the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one who brings God and mankind together, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself to redeem all mankind. That was the proof at the right time that God wants everyone to be saved, 7 and that is why I was sent as an apostle and teacher of the Gentiles, to proclaim the message of faith and truth. I am not lying; I am telling the truth!
B17 - Joh 15 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
NRSV - 16 You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name.
TEV - "Jesus the Real Vine" - 11 "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My commandment is this: love one another, just as I love you. 13 The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them. 14 And you are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because I have told you everything I heard from my Father. 16 You did not choose me; I chose you and appointed you to go and bear much fruit, the kind of fruit that endures. And so the Father will give you whatever you ask of him in my name. 17 This, then, is what I command you: love one another.
B18 - Joh 17 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
20 Neither pray I for
these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee,
that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast
sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they
may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they
may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent
me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
NRSV - 1 After Jesus had spoken these words, he looked up to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you,
6 "I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
11 And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.
20 "I ask not only
on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through
their word, 21 that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I
am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you
have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given them, so
that they may be one, as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they
may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent
me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
TEV - "Jesus Prays for His Disciples" - 1 After Jesus finished saying this, he looked up to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your Son, so that the Son may give glory to you. 2 For you gave him authority over all mankind, so that he might give eternal life to all those you gave him. 3 And eternal life means to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you sent. 4 I have shown your glory on earth; I have finished the work you gave me to do. 5 Father! Give me glory in your presence now, the same glory I had with you before the world was made. 6 "I have made you known to those you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me. They have obeyed your word, 7 and now they know that everything you gave me comes from you. 8 I gave them the message that you gave me, and they received it; they know that it is true that I came from you, and they believe that you sent me.
11 And now I am coming to you; I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world. Holy Father! Keep them safe by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one just as you and I are one.
20 "I pray not only for them, but also for those who believe in me because of their message. 21 I pray that they may all be one. Father! May they be in us, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they be one, so that the world will believe that you sent me. 22 I gave them the same glory you gave me, so that they may be one, just as you and I are one: 23 I in them and you in me, so that they may be completely one, in order that the world may know that you sent me and that you love them as you love me.

KJV - 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
20 Now then we are
ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you
in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
NRSV - 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation;
20 So we are ambassadors
for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on
behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
TEV - "Friendship with God through Christ" - 16 No longer, then, do we judge anyone by human standards. Even if at one time we judged Christ according to human standards, we no longer do so. 17 When anyone is joined to Christ, he is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come. 18 All this is done by God, who through Christ changed us from enemies into his friends and gave us the task of making others his friends also. 19 Our message is that God was making all mankind his friends through Christ. God did not keep an account of their sins, and he has given us the message which tells how he makes them his friends. 20 Here we are, then, speaking for Christ, as though God himself were making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ's behalf: let God change you from enemies into his friends! 21 Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.

B20 - Heb 2 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 9 we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour;
11 For both he that
sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause
he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 Saying, I will declare thy name
unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
NRSV - 9 ...we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
11 For the one who sanctifies
and those who are sanctified all have one Father. For this reason Jesus
is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, 12 saying, "I will
proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters, in the midst of the congregation
I will praise you."
TEV - "The One Who Leads Us to Salvation" - 9 But we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, so that through God's grace he should die for everyone. We see him now crowned with glory and honor because of the death he suffered. 10 It was only right that God, who creates and preserves all things, should make Jesus perfect through suffering, in order to bring many sons to share his glory. For Jesus is the one who leads them to salvation. 11 He purifies people from their sins, and both he and those who are made pure all have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers. 12 He says to God, "I will tell my brothers what you have done; I will praise you in their meeting." 13 He also says, "I will put my trust in God." And he also says, "Here I am with the children that God has given me."

KJV - 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
NRSV - 24 And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
TEV - "Let Us Come Near to God" - 19 We have, then, my brothers, complete freedom to go into the Most Holy Place by means of the death of Jesus. 20 He opened for us a new way, a living way, through the curtain -- that is, through his own body. 21 We have a great priest in charge of the house of God. 22 So let us come near to God with a sincere heart and a sure faith, with hearts that have been purified from a guilty conscience and with bodies washed with clean water. 23 Let us hold on firmly to the hope we profess, because we can trust God to keep his promise. 24 Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. 25 Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer.
B22 - Eph 3 | Bible Lesson | Bibles online | Commentary | Bible Terms>> | Dict | S&H | Strong's>> | KJV & NAS | Heb | Gr | S&H |
KJV - 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
NRSV - 20 Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
TEV - "The Love of Christ" - 20 To him who by means of his power working in us is able to do so much more than we can ever ask for, or even think of: 21 to God be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever! Amen.

King James Version (KJV) -- Almost all of today's printed and electronic editions of the KJV are based upon Dr. Benjamin Blayney's 1769 revision of the KJV, which like many of its KJV-revision predecessors, does not include the Apocrypha and the marginal notes that were in the original 1611 edition of the KJV. Spelling and punctuation also are quite different from the 1611 edition. Even in today's editions of the KJV, there remain some punctuation and spelling differences among major publishers.
