KJV
<Strong's #> - 12 Blessed <3107> [is]
the man <435> that endureth <5278> temptation <3986>: for
when he is tried <1384>, he shall receive <2983> the crown <4735>
of life <2222>, which <3739> the Lord <2962>
[he] hath promised <1861> to them that love <25> him.
KJV
- 12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall
receive the crown of life, which the Lord [he] hath promised
to them that love him.
NRSV - 12 Blessed is anyone who endures temptation. Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
TEV - "Testing and Tempting" - 12 Happy is the person who remains faithful under trials, because when he succeeds in passing such a test, he will receive as his reward the life which God has promised to those who love him. 13 If a person is tempted by such trials, he must not say, "This temptation comes from God." For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But a person is tempted when he is drawn away and trapped by his own evil desire. 15 Then his evil desire conceives and gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

KJV <Strong's #> - 1 Judge <08199> me, O LORD <03068>; for I have walked <01980> in mine integrity <08537>: I have trusted <0982> also in the LORD <03068>; [therefore] I shall not slide <04571>. 2 Examine <0974> me, O LORD <03068>, and prove <05254> me; try <06884> my reins <03629> and my heart <03820>. 3 For thy lovingkindness <02617> [is] before <05048> mine eyes <05869>: and I have walked <01980> in thy truth <0571>. 4 I have not sat <03427> with vain <07723> persons <04962>, neither <03808> will I go <0935> in with dissemblers <05956>. 5 I have hated <08130> the congregation <06951> of evil <07489> doers <07489>; and will not <03808> sit <03427> with the wicked <07563>. 6 I will wash <07364> mine hands <03709> in innocency <05356>: so will I compass <05437> thine altar <04196>, O LORD <03068>: 7 That I may publish <08085> with the voice <06963> of thanksgiving <03034>, and tell <05608> of all <03605> thy wondrous <06381> works. 8 LORD <03068>, I have loved <0157> the habitation <04583> of thy house <01004>, and the place <04725> where thine honour <03519> dwelleth <04908>.
KJV - 1 Judge me, O Lord; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the Lord; therefore I shall not slide. 2 Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. 3 For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth. 4 I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. 5 I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked. 6 I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O Lord: 7 That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works. 8 Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth.
NRSV - 1 Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering. 2 Prove me, O LORD, and try me; test my heart and mind. 3 For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in faithfulness to you. 4 I do not sit with the worthless, nor do I consort with hypocrites; 5 I hate the company of evildoers, and will not sit with the wicked. 6 I wash my hands in innocence, and go around your altar, O LORD, 7 singing aloud a song of thanksgiving, and telling all your wondrous deeds. 8 O LORD, I love the house in which you dwell, and the place where your glory abides.
TEV - "The Prayer of a Good Man" - 1 Declare me innocent, O LORD, because I do what is right and trust you completely. 2 Examine me and test me, LORD; judge my desires and thoughts. 3 Your constant love is my guide; your faithfulness always leads me. 4 I do not keep company with worthless people; I have nothing to do with hypocrites. 5 I hate the company of evil men and avoid the wicked. 6 LORD, I wash my hands to show that I am innocent and march in worship around your altar. 7 I sing a hymn of thanksgiving and tell of all your wonderful deeds. 8 I love the house where you live, O LORD, the place where your glory dwells. 9 Do not destroy me with the sinners; spare me from the fate of murderers -- 10 men who do evil all the time and are always ready to take bribes.

KJV <Strong's #> - 11 By this <02063> I know <03045> that thou favourest <02654> me, because <03588> mine enemy <0341> doth not triumph <07321> over <05921> me. 12 And as for me, thou upholdest <08551> me in mine integrity <08537>, and settest <05324> me before thy face <06440> for ever <05769>. 13 Blessed <01288> [be] the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> from everlasting <05769>, and to everlasting <05769>...
KJV
- 11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph
over me. 12 And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest
me before thy face for ever. 13 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting,
and to everlasting
NRSV - 11 By this I know that you are pleased with me; because my enemy has not triumphed over me. 12 But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever. 13 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting...
TEV - "The Prayer of a Sick Man" - 10 Be merciful to me, LORD, and restore my health, and I will pay my enemies back. 11 They will not triumph over me, and I will know that you are pleased with me. 12 You will help me, because I do what is right; you will keep me in your presence forever. 13 Praise the LORD, the God of Israel! Praise him now and forever! Amen! Amen!

KJV <Strong's #> - 8 ...the LORD <03068> will command <06680> his lovingkindness <02617> in the daytime, and in the night <03915> his song <07892> [shall be] with me, [and] my prayer <08605> unto the God <0410> of my life <02416>.
KJV
- 8
the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the
night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
NRSV - 8 By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
TEV - "The Prayer of a Man in Exile" - 6...7 Here in exile my heart is breaking, and so I turn my thoughts to him. He has sent waves of sorrow over my soul; chaos roars at me like a flood, like waterfalls thundering down to the Jordan from Mount Hermon and Mount Mizar. 8 May the LORD show his constant love during the day, so that I may have a song at night, a prayer to the God of my life.

KJV <Strong's #> - 5 O that my ways <01870> were directed <03559> to keep <08104> thy statutes <02706>!
10 With my whole <03605>
heart <03820> have I sought <01875> thee: O let me not wander
<07686> from thy commandments <04687>.
KJV - 5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
10 With my whole heart
have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
NRSV - 5 O that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!
10 With my whole heart
I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments.
TEV - "The Law of the LORD" - 1 Happy are those whose lives are faultless, who live according to the law of the LORD. 2 Happy are those who follow his commands, who obey him with all their heart. 3 They never do wrong; they walk in the LORD's ways. 4 LORD, you have given us your laws and told us to obey them faithfully. 5 How I hope that I shall be faithful in keeping your instructions! 6 If I pay attention to all your commands, then I will not be put to shame. 7 As I learn your righteous judgments, I will praise you with a pure heart.
"Obedience to
the Law of the LORD" - 9 How can a young man keep his life pure?
By obeying your commands. 10 With all my heart I try to serve you; keep
me from disobeying your commandments. 11 I keep your law in my heart,
so that I will not sin against you. 12 I praise you, O LORD; teach me your
ways. 13 I will repeat aloud all the laws you have given. 14 I delight in
following your commands more than in having great wealth. 15 I study your
instructions; I examine your teachings. 16 I take pleasure in your laws; your
commands I will not forget.

KJV <Strong's #> - 7 Whither <0575> shall I go <03212> from thy spirit <07307>? or whither <0575> shall I flee <01272> from thy presence <06440>? 8 If <0518> I ascend <05927> up into heaven <08064>, thou [art] there <08033>: if I make <03331> my bed <03331> in hell <07585>, behold <02009>, thou [art there]. 9 [If] I take <05375> the wings <03671> of the morning <07837>, [and] dwell <07931> in the uttermost <0319> parts of the sea <03220>; 10 Even <01571> there <08033> shall thy hand <03027> lead <05148> me, and thy right <03225> hand <03225> shall hold <0270> me.
23 Search <02713>
me, O God <0410>, and know <03045> my heart <03824>: try
<0974> me, and know <03045> my thoughts <08312>: 24 And
see <07200> if <0518> [there be any] wicked <06090> way
<01870> in me, and lead <05148> me in the way <01870>
everlasting <05769>.
KJV - 7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
23 Search me, O God,
and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be
any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
NRSV - 7 Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, 10 even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.
23 Search me, O God,
and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. 24 See if there is any
wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
TEV - "God's Complete Knowledge and Care" - 7 Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? 8 If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. 9 If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, 10 you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me. 11 I could ask the darkness to hide me or the light around me to turn into night, 12 but even darkness is not dark for you, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same to you.
23 Examine me, O God, and know my mind; test me, and discover my thoughts. 24 Find out if there is any evil in me and guide me in the everlasting way.

KJV <Strong's #> - 17 I shall not die <04191>, but live <02421>, and declare <05608> the works <04639> of the LORD <03050>.
21 I will praise <03034>
thee: for thou hast heard <06030> me, and art become <01961>
my salvation <03444>.
KJV - 17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
21 I will praise thee:
for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
NRSV - 17 I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the LORD.
21 I thank you that
you have answered me and have become my salvation.
TEV - "A Prayer of Thanks for Victory" - 15 Listen to the glad shouts of victory in the tents of God's people: "The LORD's mighty power has done it! 16 His power has brought us victory -- his mighty power in battle!" 17 I will not die; instead, I will live and proclaim what the LORD has done. 18 He has punished me severely, but he has not let me die. 19 Open to me the gates of the Temple; I will go in and give thanks to the LORD! 20 This is the gate of the LORD; only the righteous can come in. 21 I praise you, LORD, because you heard me, because you have given me victory.

KJV <Strong's #> - 22 Understanding <07922> [is] a wellspring <04726> of life <02416> unto him that hath <01167> it:..
KJV
- 22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it:
NRSV - 22 Wisdom is a fountain of life to one who has it,...
TEV - "Solomon's Proverbs" - 17 Those who are good travel a road that avoids evil; so watch where you are going -- it may save your life. 18 Pride leads to destruction, and arrogance to downfall. 19 It is better to be humble and stay poor than to be one of the arrogant and get a share of their loot. 20 Pay attention to what you are taught, and you will be successful; trust in the LORD and you will be happy. 21 A wise, mature person is known for his understanding. The more pleasant his words, the more persuasive he is. 22 Wisdom is a fountain of life to the wise, but trying to educate stupid people is a waste of time.

KJV <Strong's #> - 1 Doth not wisdom <02451> cry <07121>? and understanding <08394> put <05414> forth her voice <06963>?
4 Unto you, O men <0376>, I call <07121>; and my voice <06963> [is] to the sons <01121> of man <0120>.
17 I love <0157> them that love <0157> me; and those that seek <07836> me early <07836> shall find <04672> me.
34 Blessed <0835>
[is] the man <0120> that heareth <08085> me, watching <08245>
daily <03117> at <05921> my gates <01817>, waiting <08104>
at the posts <04201> of my doors <06607>. 35 For whoso findeth
<04672> me findeth <04672> life <02416>, and shall obtain
<06329> favour <07522> of the LORD <03068>.
KJV - 1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
34 Blessed is the man
that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my
doors. 35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of
the Lord.
NRSV - 1 Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice?
4 "To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live.
17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
34 Happy is the one
who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.
35 For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD;
TEV - "In Praise of Wisdom" - 1 Listen! Wisdom is calling out. Reason is making herself heard. 2 On the hilltops near the road and at the crossroads she stands. 3 At the entrance to the city, beside the gates, she calls: 4 "I appeal to you, mankind; I call to everyone on earth. 5 Are you immature? Learn to be mature. Are you foolish? Learn to have sense. 6 Listen to my excellent words; all I tell you is right.
11 "I am Wisdom, I am better than jewels; nothing you want can compare with me. 12 I am Wisdom, and I have insight; I have knowledge and sound judgment. 13 To honor the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil ways and false words. 14 I make plans and carry them out. I have understanding, and I am strong. 15 I help kings to govern and rulers to make good laws. 16 Every ruler on earth governs with my help, statesmen and noblemen alike. 17 I love those who love me; whoever looks for me can find me.
32 "Now, young
men, listen to me. Do as I say, and you will be happy. 33 Listen to what
you are taught. Be wise; do not neglect it. 34 The man who listens to
me will be happy -- the man who stays at my door every day, waiting at the
entrance to my home. 35 The man who finds me finds life, and the LORD will
be pleased with him. 36 The man who does not find me hurts himself;
anyone who hates me loves death."

KJV <Strong's #> - 89 For ever <05769>, O LORD <03068>, thy word <01697> is settled <05324> in heaven <08064>.
104 Through thy precepts
<06490> I get understanding <0995>:...
KJV - 89 For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.
104 Through thy precepts
I get understanding:
NRSV - 89 The LORD exists forever; your word is firmly fixed in heaven.
104 Through your precepts
I get understanding;...
TEV - "Faith in the Law of the LORD" - 89 Your word, O LORD, will last forever; it is eternal in heaven. 90 Your faithfulness endures through all the ages; you have set the earth in place, and it remains. 91 All things remain to this day because of your command, because they are all your servants. 92 If your law had not been the source of my joy, I would have died from my sufferings. 93 I will never neglect your instructions, because by them you have kept me alive. 94 I am yours -- save me! I have tried to obey your commands. 95 Wicked men are waiting to kill me, but I will meditate on your laws.
"Love for the Law of the LORD" - 104 I gain wisdom from your laws, and so I hate all bad conduct.

KJV <Strong's #> - 22 So foolish <01198> [was] I, and ignorant:...
23 Nevertheless I [am]
continually <08548> with thee: thou hast holden <0270> [me]
by my right <03225> hand <03027>. 24 Thou shalt guide <05148>
me with thy counsel <06098>, and afterward <0310> receive <03947>
me [to] glory <03519>. 25 Whom <04310> have I in heaven <08064>
[but thee]? and [there is] none <03808> upon earth <0776> [that]
I desire <02654> beside <05973> thee. 26 My flesh <07607>
and my heart <03824> faileth <03615>: [but] God <0430>
[is] the strength <06697> of my heart <03824>, and my portion
<02506> for ever <05769>.
KJV - 22 So foolish was I, and ignorant:
23 Nevertheless I am
continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. 24 Thou shalt
guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. 25 Whom have
I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside
thee. 26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart,
and my portion for ever.
NRSV - 22 I was stupid and ignorant;...
23 Nevertheless I am
continually with you; you hold my right hand. 24 You guide me with your
counsel, and afterward you will receive me with honor. 25 Whom have I in
heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and
my portion forever.
TEV - "The Justice of God" - 21 When my thoughts were bitter and my feelings were hurt, 22 I was as stupid as an animal; I did not understand you. 23 Yet I always stay close to you, and you hold me by the hand. 24 You guide me with your instruction and at the end you will receive me with honor. 25 What else do I have in heaven but you? Since I have you, what else could I want on earth? 26 My mind and my body may grow weak, but God is my strength; he is all I ever need.

KJV <Strong's #> - 2 My brethren <80>, count <2233> it all <3956> joy <5479> when <3752> ye fall <4045> into divers <4164> temptations <3986>; 3 Knowing <1097> [this], that the trying <1383> of your <5216> faith <4102> worketh <2716> patience <5281>. 4 But let patience <5281> have <2192> [her] perfect <5046> work <2041>, that ye may be perfect <5046> and entire <3648>, wanting <3007> nothing <3367>. 5 If <1487> any <5100> of you lack <3007> wisdom <4678>, let him ask <154> of God <2316>, that giveth <1325> to all <3956> [men] liberally <574>, and upbraideth <3679> not; and it shall be given <1325> him.
KJV
- 2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let
patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting
nothing. 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to
all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
NRSV - 2 My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; 4 and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing. 5 If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you.
TEV - "Faith and Wisdom" - 2 My brothers, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, 3 for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure. 4 Make sure that your endurance carries you all the way without failing, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should pray to God, who will give it to him; because God gives generously and graciously to all. 6 But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind. 7...8 A person like that, unable to make up his mind and undecided in all he does, must not think that he will receive anything from the Lord.

KJV <Strong's #> - 14 ...[the kingdom of heaven is] as a man <444> travelling <589> into a far country <589>, [who] called <2564> his own <2398> servants <1401>, and delivered <3860> unto them his goods <5224>. 15 And unto one <3303> he gave <1325> five <4002> talents <5007>, to another <3739> two <1417>, and to another <3739> one <1520>; to every <1538> man according <2596> to his several <2398> ability <1411>; and straightway <2112> took <589> his journey <589>.
19 After <3326>
a long <4183> time <5550> the lord <2962> of those <1565>
servants <1401> cometh <2064>, and reckoneth <4868> <3056>
with them. 20 And so <2532> he that had received <2983> five
<4002> talents <5007> came <4334> and brought <4374>
other <243> five <4002> talents <5007>, saying <3004>,
Lord <2962>, thou deliveredst <3860> unto me five <4002>
talents <5007>: behold <2396>, I have gained <2770> beside
<1909> them five <4002> talents <5007> more <243>.
21 His lord <2962> said <5346> unto him, Well <2095> done,
[thou] good <18> and faithful <4103> servant <1401>: thou
hast been <2258> faithful <4103> over <1909> a few <3641>
things, I will make <2525> thee ruler <2525> over <1909>
many <4183> things: enter <1525> thou into <1519> the
joy <5479> of thy lord <2962>. 22 He also <2532> that
had received <2983> two <1417> talents <5007> came <4334>
and said <2036>, Lord <2962>, thou deliveredst <3860>
unto me two <1417> talents <5007>: behold <2396>, I have
gained <2770> two <1417> other <243> talents <5007>
beside <1909> them. 23 His lord <2962> said <5346> unto
him, Well <2095> done, good <18> and faithful <4103> servant
<1401>; thou hast been <2258> faithful <4103> over <1909>
a few <3641> things, I will make <2525> thee ruler <2525>
over <1909> many <4183> things: enter <1525> thou into
<1519> the joy <5479> of thy lord <2962>. 24 Then <1161>
he which had received <2983> the one <1520> talent <5007>
came <4334> and said <2036>, Lord <2962>, I knew <1097>
thee that thou art <1488> an hard <4642> man <444>, reaping
<2325> where <3699> thou hast not sown <4687>, and gathering
<4863> where <3606> thou hast not strawed <1287>: 25 And
I was afraid <5399>, and went <565> and hid <2928> thy
talent <5007> in the earth <1093>: lo <2396>, [there]
thou hast <2192> [that is] thine <4674>. 26 His lord <2962>
answered <611> and said <2036> unto him, [Thou] wicked <4190>
and slothful <3636> servant <1401>, thou knewest <1492>
that I reap <2325> where <3699> I sowed <4687> not, and
gather <4863> where <3606> I have not strawed <1287>:
27 Thou oughtest <1163> therefore <3767> to have put <906>
my money <694> to the exchangers <5133>, and [then] at my coming
<2064> I should have received <2865> mine <1699> own with
usury <5110>. 28 Take <142> therefore <3767> the talent
<5007> from him, and give <1325> [it] unto him which hath <2192>
ten <1176> talents <5007>.
KJV - 14 the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
19 After a long time
the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he
that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying,
Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside
them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good
and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will
make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst
unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast
been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things:
enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 24 Then he which had received the one
talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping
where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25
And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou
hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked
and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather
where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money
to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own
with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him
which hath ten talents.
NRSV - 14 "...it is as if a man, going on a journey, summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them; 15 to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.
19 After a long time
the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. 20 Then
the one who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five more
talents, saying, "Master, you handed over to me five talents; see,
I have made five more talents.' 21 His master said to him, "Well done,
good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I
will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.'
22 And the one with the two talents also came forward, saying, "Master,
you handed over to me two talents; see, I have made two more talents.' 23
His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you
have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many
things; enter into the joy of your master.' 24 Then the one who had received
the one talent also came forward, saying, "Master, I knew that you
were a harsh man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you
did not scatter seed; 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent
in the ground. Here you have what is yours.' 26 But his master replied,
"You wicked and lazy slave! You knew, did you, that I reap where I
did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter? 27 Then you ought to have
invested my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received
what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him, and give
it to the one with the ten talents.
TEV - "The Parable of the Three Servants" - 14 "At that time the Kingdom of heaven will be like this. Once there was a man who was about to leave home on a trip; he called his servants and put them in charge of his property. 15 He gave to each one according to his ability: to one he gave five thousand gold coins, to another he gave two thousand, and to another he gave one thousand. Then he left on his trip. 16 The servant who had received five thousand coins went at once and invested his money and earned another five thousand. 17 In the same way the servant who had received two thousand coins earned another two thousand. 18 But the servant who had received one thousand coins went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master's money. 19 "After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them. 20 The servant who had received five thousand coins came in and handed over the other five thousand. "You gave me five thousand coins, sir,' he said. "Look! Here are another five thousand that I have earned.' 21 "Well done, you good and faithful servant!' said his master. "You have been faithful in managing small amounts, so I will put you in charge of large amounts. Come on in and share my happiness!' 22 Then the servant who had been given two thousand coins came in and said, "You gave me two thousand coins, sir. Look! Here are another two thousand that I have earned.' 23 "Well done, you good and faithful servant!' said his master. "You have been faithful in managing small amounts, so I will put you in charge of large amounts. Come on in and share my happiness!' 24 Then the servant who had received one thousand coins came in and said, "Sir, I know you are a hard man; you reap harvests where you did not plant, and you gather crops where you did not scatter seed. 25 I was afraid, so I went off and hid your money in the ground. Look! Here is what belongs to you.' 26 "You bad and lazy servant!' his master said. "You knew, did you, that I reap harvests where I did not plant, and gather crops where I did not scatter seed? 27 Well, then, you should have deposited my money in the bank, and I would have received it all back with interest when I returned. 28 Now, take the money away from him and give it to the one who has ten thousand coins.

KJV
- 9 The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands

NRSV - 9 Yet the righteous hold to their way, and they that have clean hands grow stronger and stronger.
TEV - "The Second Dialogue" - 5 In the old proverb a man betrays his friends for money, and his children suffer for it. 6 And now people use this proverb against me; they come and spit in my face. 7 My grief has almost made me blind; my arms and legs are as thin as shadows. 8 Those who claim to be honest are shocked, and they all condemn me as godless. 9 Those who claim to be respectable are more and more convinced they are right.

<Strong's #> - 40 And it came
<1096> to pass, that, when <3588> Jesus <2424>
was returned <5290>, the people <3793> [gladly] received <588>
him: for they were all <3956> waiting <4328> for him. 41 And,
behold <2400>, there came <2064> a man <435> named <3686>
Jairus <2383>, and he was a ruler <758> of the synagogue <4864>:
and he fell <4098> down at <3844> Jesus <2424>' feet <4228>,
and besought <3870> him that he would come <1525> into <1519>
his house <3624>: 42 For he had <1510> one only <3439>
daughter <2364>, about <5613> twelve <1427> years <2094>
of age, and she lay a dying <599>. But as he went <5217> the
people <3793> thronged <4846> him.
51 And when he came
<1525> into <1519> the house <3614>, he suffered <863>
no <3762> man <3762> to go <1525> in, save <1508>
Peter <4074>, and James <2385>, and John <2491>, and the
father <3962> and the mother <3384> of the maiden <3816>.
52 And all <3956> wept <2799>, and bewailed <2875> her:
but he said <2036>, Weep <2799> not; she is not dead <599>,
but sleepeth <2518>. 53 And they laughed <2606> him to scorn
<2606>, knowing <1492> that she was dead <599>. 54 And
he put <1544> them all <3956> out, and took <2902> her
by the hand <5495>, and called <5455>, saying <3004>,
Maid <3816>, arise <1453>. 55 And her spirit <4151> came
<1994> again <1994>, and she arose <450> straightway <3916>:
and he commanded <1299> to give <1325> her meat <5315>.
KJV
- 40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the
people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him. 41 And, behold,
there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and
he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his
house: 42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she
lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
51 And when he came
into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and
John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. 52 And all wept, and
bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. 53 And
they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. 54 And he put them
all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. 55 And
her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give
her meat.
NRSV - 40 Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 Just then there came a man named Jairus, a leader of the synagogue. He fell at Jesus' feet and begged him to come to his house, 42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, who was dying. As he went, the crowds pressed in on him.
51 When he came to the
house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him, except Peter, John, and
James, and the child's father and mother. 52 They were all weeping and wailing
for her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping."
53 And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her
by the hand and called out, "Child, get up!" 55 Her spirit returned,
and she got up at once. Then he directed them to give her something to eat.
TEV - "Jairus' Daughter and the Woman Who Touched Jesus' Cloak" - 40 When Jesus returned to the other side of the lake, the people welcomed him, because they had all been waiting for him. 41 Then a man named Jairus arrived; he was an official in the local synagogue. He threw himself down at Jesus' feet and begged him to go to his home, 42 because his only daughter, who was twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus went along, the people were crowding him from every side.
51 When he arrived at the house, he would not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, and James, and the child's father and mother. 52 Everyone there was crying and mourning for the child. Jesus said, "Don't cry; the child is not dead -- she is only sleeping!" 53 They all made fun of him, because they knew that she was dead. 54 But Jesus took her by the hand and called out, "Get up, child!" 55 Her life returned, and she got up at once, and Jesus ordered them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astounded, but Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone what had happened.

B14 - Act 1 |
KJV <Strong's #> - 1 The former <4413> treatise <3056> have I made <4160>, O Theophilus <2321>, of all <3956> that Jesus <2424> began <756> both <5037> to do <4160> and teach <1321>, 2 Until <891> the day <2250> in which <3739> he was taken <353> up, after that he through <1223> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> had given commandments <1781> unto the apostles <652> whom <3739> he had chosen <1586>: 3 To whom <3739> also <2532> he shewed <3936> himself <1438> alive <2198> after <3326> his passion <3958> by many <4183> infallible <5039> proofs <5039>, being seen <3700> of them forty <5062> days <2250>, and speaking <3004> of the things pertaining <4012> to the kingdom <932> of God <2316>:
7 And he said <2036> unto them, It is not for you to know <1097> the times <5550> or <2228> the seasons <2540>, which <3739> the Father <3962> hath put <5087> in his own <2398> power <1849>. 8 But ye shall receive <2983> power <1411>, after that the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> is come <1904> upon you: and ye shall be witnesses <3144> unto me both <5037> in Jerusalem <2419>, and in all <3956> Judaea <2449>, and in Samaria <4540>, and unto the uttermost <2078> part of the earth <1093>. 9 And when he had spoken <2036> these <5023> things, while they beheld <991>, he was taken <1869> up; and a cloud <3507> received <5274> him out of their sight <3788>.
12 Then <5119>
returned <5290> they unto Jerusalem <2419> from the mount <3735>
called <2564> Olivet <1638>, which <3739> is from Jerusalem
<2419> a sabbath <4521> day's journey <3598>. 13 And when
<3753> they were come <1525> in, they went <305> up into
<1519> an upper <5253> room <5253>, where <3757>
abode <2650> both <5037> Peter <4074>, and James <2385>,
and John <2491>, and Andrew <406>, Philip <5376>, and
Thomas <2381>, Bartholomew <918>, and Matthew <3156>,
James <2385> [the son] of Alphaeus <256>, and Simon <4613>
Zelotes <2208>, and Judas <2455> [the brother] of James <2385>.
14 These <3778> all <3956> continued <4342> with one <3661>
accord <3661> in prayer <4335> and supplication <1162>,
with the women <1135>, and Mary <3137> the mother <3384>
of Jesus <2424>, and with his brethren <80>.
KJV - 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
NRSV - 1 In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning 2 until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3 After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
7 He replied, "It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." 9 When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
12 Then they returned
to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath
day's journey away. 13 When they had entered the city, they went to the
room upstairs where they were staying, Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew,
Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon
the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 All these were constantly devoting
themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother
of Jesus, as well as his brothers.
TEV - "Introduction" - 1 Dear Theophilus: In my first book I wrote about all the things that Jesus did and taught from the time he began his work 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven. Before he was taken up, he gave instructions by the power of the Holy Spirit to the men he had chosen as his apostles.3 For forty days after his death he appeared to them many times in ways that proved beyond doubt that he was alive. They saw him, and he talked with them about the Kingdom of God.
"Jesus Is Taken Up to Heaven" - 6 When the apostles met together with Jesus, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time give the Kingdom back to Israel?" 7 Jesus said to them, "The times and occasions are set by my Father's own authority, and it is not for you to know when they will be. 8 But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." 9 After saying this, he was taken up to heaven as they watched him, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
"Judas' Successor"
- 12 Then the apostles went back to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives,
which is about half a mile away from the city. 13 They entered the city
and went up to the room where they were staying: Peter, John, James and
Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus,
Simon the Patriot, and Judas son of James. 14 They gathered frequently to
pray as a group, together with the women and with Mary the mother of Jesus
and with his brothers.
B15 - Act 5 |
KJV <Strong's #> - 12 And by the hands <5495> of the apostles <652> were many <4183> signs <4592> and wonders <5059> wrought <1096> among <1722> the people <2992>;...
KJV
- 12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought
among the people;
NRSV - 12 Now many signs and wonders were done among the people through the apostles...
TEV - "Miracles and Wonders" - 12 Many miracles and wonders were being performed among the people by the apostles. All the believers met together in Solomon's Porch. 13 Nobody outside the group dared join them, even though the people spoke highly of them. 14 But more and more people were added to the group -- a crowd of men and women who believed in the Lord. 15 As a result of what the apostles were doing, sick people were carried out into the streets and placed on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. 16 And crowds of people came in from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing those who were sick or who had evil spirits in them; and they were all healed.

KJV <Strong's #> - 12 Wherefore <5620>, my beloved <27>, as ye have always <3842> obeyed <5219>, not as in my presence <3952> only <3440>, but now <3568> much <4183> more <3123> in my absence <666>, work <2716> out your <1438> own <1438> salvation <4991> with fear <5401> and trembling <5156>. 13 For it is God <2316> which <3588> worketh <1754> in you both <2532> to will <2309> and to do <1754> of [his] good pleasure <2107>.
KJV
- 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence
only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with
fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and
to do of his good pleasure.
NRSV - 12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
TEV - "Shining as Lights in the World" - 12 So then, dear friends, as you always obeyed me when I was with you, it is even more important that you obey me now while I am away from you. Keep on working with fear and trembling to complete your salvation, 13 because God is always at work in you to make you willing and able to obey his own purpose. 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15 so that you may be innocent and pure as God's perfect children, who live in a world of corrupt and sinful people. You must shine among them like stars lighting up the sky, 16 as you offer them the message of life. If you do so, I shall have reason to be proud of you on the Day of Christ, because it will show that all my effort and work have not been wasted.

KJV <Strong's #> - 28 And we know <1492> that all <3956> things work <4903> together <4903> for good <18> to them that love <25> God <2316>, to them who are the called <2822> according <2596> to [his] purpose <4286>.
38 For I am persuaded
<3982>, that neither <3777> death <2288>, nor <3777>
life <2222>, nor <3777> angels <32>, nor <3777>
principalities <746>, nor <3777> powers <1411>, nor <3777>
things present <1764>, nor <3777> things to come <3195>,
39 Nor <3777> height <5313>, nor <3777> depth <899>,
nor <3777> any <5100> other <2087> creature <2937>,
shall be able <1410> to separate <5563> us from the love <26>
of God <2316>, which <3588> is in Christ <5547> Jesus
<2424> our Lord <2962>.
KJV - 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
38 For I am persuaded,
that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers,
nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any
other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which
is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
NRSV - 28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
38 For I am convinced
that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present,
nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else
in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ
Jesus our Lord.
TEV - "The Future Glory" - 28 We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. 29 Those whom God had already chosen he also set apart to become like his Son, so that the Son would be the first among many brothers. 30 And so those whom God set apart, he called; and those he called, he put right with himself, and he shared his glory with them.
"God's Love in Christ Jesus" - 36 As the scripture says, "For your sake we are in danger of death at all times; we are treated like sheep that are going to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us! 38 For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, 39 neither the world above nor the world below -- there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.

KJV <Strong's #> - 6 He that hath <2192> an ear <3775>, let him hear <191> what <5101> the Spirit <4151> saith <3004> unto the churches <1577>. 7 And to the angel <32> of the church <1577> in Philadelphia <5359> write <1125>; These <3592> things saith <3004> he that is holy <40>, he that is true <228>, he that hath <2192> the key <2807> of David <1138>, he that openeth <455>, and no <3762> man <3762> shutteth <2808>; and shutteth <2808>, and no <3762> man <3762> openeth <455>; 8 I know <1492> thy works <2041>: behold <2400>, I have set <1325> before <1799> thee an open <455> door <2374>, and no <3762> man <3762> can <1410> shut <2808> it:...
11 Behold <2400>, I come <2064> quickly <5035>: hold <2902> that fast which <3739> thou hast <2192>, that no <3367> man <3367> take <2983> thy crown <4735>.
21 To him that overcometh
<3528> will I grant <1325> to sit <2523> with me in my
throne <2362>, even <2504> as I also <2504> overcame <3528>,
and am set <2523> down <2523> with my Father <3962> in
his throne <2362>.
KJV - 6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. 7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; 8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it:
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
NRSV - 6 Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. 7 "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens: 8 "I know your works. Look, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut...
11 I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.
21 To the one who conquers
I will give a place with me on my throne, just as I myself conquered and
sat down with my Father on his throne.
TEV - "The Message to Sardis" - 6 "If you have ears, then, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches!
"The Message to Philadelphia" - 7 "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: "This is the message from the one who is holy and true. He has the key that belonged to David, and when he opens a door, no one can close it, and when he closes it, no one can open it. 8 I know what you do; I know that you have a little power; you have followed my teaching and have been faithful to me. I have opened a door in front of you, which no one can close. 9 Listen! As for that group that belongs to Satan, those liars who claim that they are Jews but are not, I will make them come and bow down at your feet. They will all know that I love you. 10 Because you have kept my command to endure, I will also keep you safe from the time of trouble which is coming upon the world to test all the people on earth. 11 I am coming soon. Keep safe what you have, so that no one will rob you of your victory prize. 12 I will make him who is victorious a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will never leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which will come down out of heaven from my God. I will also write on him my new name.
"The Message to Laodicea" - 21 To those who win the victory I will give the right to sit beside me on my throne, just as I have been victorious and now sit by my Father on his throne.

King James Version (KJV) -- Dr. Benjamin Blayney's 1769 revision of the KJV. Almost all of today's printed and electronic editions of the KJV are based upon Dr. Blayney's 1769 revision, which like many of its KJV-revision predecessors, does not include the Apocrypha and the marginal notes that were in the original 1611 edition of the KJV. Spelling and punctuation also are quite different from the 1611 edition.Even in today's editions of the KJV, there remain some punctuation and spelling differences among major publishers. In

Strong's numbers identify the Hebrew (OT) or Greek words (NT) from which the KJV words were translated, and they are enclosed in less-than and greater-than signs < >. Keep in mind that the Strong's numbers do not necessarily represent the Hebrew and Greek words in the original texts. They represent the Hebrew and Greek texts from which the KJV was translated.
